Wendy’s Weekly Picks

goods_09_146588Wendy’s Weekly Picks,” is a feature in which I highlight stuff I like or recommend in the worlds of fashion, gift ideas, home decor, makeup, websites, entertainment, and recipes. Of course, many of the things I link to will be affiliate products, which means I’ll receive a commission on any click-throughs or purchases you make through the affiliate links. As always, I appreciate your support! Here are my favorite finds this week:

Three times in the last month, I’ve complimented people on their winter coats and all three times they turned out to be wearing the same thing: this slim down coat from Uniqlo. (And it’s on sale!). It’s not bulky like a lot of down coats and I’m told it’s very warm (and the numerous positive reviews say the same). I love my own winter coat and it’s still in great shape even after four winters, but I might get this one as a back-up or to rotate for a little variety. I only wish it came in a bigger variety of colors.

Speaking of cold, I’m thinking of these thermal leggings for a long underwear solution. Has anyone tried them?

I went for my first post-pregnancy bra fitting yesterday and ended up buying two new bras, both in brands I’ve been wearing for years. If you happen to be big-busted like I am, I highly, highly recommend the brands Chantelle and Prima Donna (there are others that are very good, too — like Fantasie and Le Mystere, for example — but those are my current favorites). This is a wonderful t-shirt bra (I like this t-shirt bra, too), and this one’s a great choice for pretty but supportive, which isn’t always the easiest to find when you’re DD or bigger (I tried this one on for Drew yesterday and his eyes about popped out of his head). They’re pricey, but if you care for them (rotate them and hand wash them regularly) they can last a very long time — just move to the middle and first hooks as they stretch out.

While I was bra-shopping anyway, I decided to buy new sports bras since the single one I own and wear two to four times a week is like three years old and has two broken hooks. This is my favorite sports bra for big boobs — I’ve been wearing it for years and it seriously keeps the girls locked in tight without doing that awful uniboob thing that’s so unattractive. If you are smaller-chested and don’t need as much support, this one is a great bet. And if you live in NYC, I recommend seeing Iris, aka “the bra whisperer,” to get a proper fitting and personal recommendations for your size and frame.

But maybe you aren’t in the market for a new bra. Maybe what you really need is a vintage apple-picking ladder. No? How about a busted-up Oscar-the-Grouch trash can with a beautiful rope handle for a hundred bucks? Oh, Anthropologie… when you’re good, you’re really good (use code XTRA40 to save an additional 40%). And when you aren’t, well

Do you have a know a kid between the age of 3-7? He or she would probably LOVE this calendar (especially with some calendar stickers!). It’s half off now and still relevant for 11 1/2 more months, which makes it win-win for everyone. Jackson is obsessed with his — spends at least 20 minutes every day putting stickers on different dates and writing the names of his friends and family’s birthdays in the appropriate spots — but then, he’s a kid who has an unusual thing for dates and calendars

Finally, if you’re like everyone in my life right now and you’re fighting a little winter cold, try this (unless you’re a teetotaler, in which case maybe just this). It works! And even if it doesn’t, and you still get sick, drink three of them and you won’t care!

I love hot toddy’s… even when I am not sick. I also love when I am really sick just hot water, lemon and honey.

I bought the pillows you linked to last week because I desperately need a new mattress but am too poor and my pillows were all probably 10 years old, and omg amazing! I was only going to get one, but figured I would splurge for the second for when my boyfriend stays over (and I can have a cuddle pillow when he doesn’t). It was amazing! I felt like I was sleeping on a cloud and actually woke up without a migraine/head pain/neck pain/back pain. Best sleep I have had in a long time.

I noticed that a bunch of people bought the pillows (I can see what is purchased, but never who is purchasing, fyi), and I meant to ask what people though of them. We bought a new mattress five years ago so can’t really justify buying a new one so soon, so these pillows satisfy that desire of having a more luxury-type item to sleep on without breaking the bank (so reasonably priced on sale!). I love them!

Ooh, I still need to buy the pillows. I’ll go to the previous link and check if they’re still there.

Also, I love hot toddy’s when I’m feeling under the weather. Most bartenders will make me one when I’m out.

I bought a pillow too, though the regular size, not the slimline.

yes and I am glad you recommended the slim ones as I really hate overstuffed pillows.

I bought the pillows too from last week and looove them. I already had one friend try to steal them (I took them with us on a trip). I may have to buy a few more for my guest bed if they are still on sale. I bought the slim, but may try the regular and see which ones I like best. The slim was fluffy enough on its own.

Now I want to get some of the pillows, but the link took me through to amazon.com, which won’t ship them to Canada. 🙁 Not found on amazon.ca. I did find them on ebay for $33 USD, but by the time you add shipping, duty, and currency conversion they come out to $80 each. No one on here from Canada has bought them, right? I wonder if there’s somewhere local that carries them. Like, a physical store I mean. They don’t seem to be available online.

Oh, I want to know more about these pillows. We have about 5 or 6 memory foam pillows on our bed because my husband has to be careful about not hitting his head, but my one problem with them has always been that pillowcases are usually too big for the foam pillows. They’re kind of old and I would like to replace them with something better and bigger (but not puffy).

I actually need a new planner I never usually wait this late in the year, but I missed the calendar buying at work some how. So I need to get one on my own and it is hard to choose. I love getting a new planner, so I understand Jackson’s love for it. When I looked up planners on Amazon I saw this one for adults who like to color too. I’m really tempted to buy it….http://www.amazon.com/Action-Coloring-Planner-inches-Large/dp/B018ITSMAY/ref=sr_1_12?s=office-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1453399597&sr=1-12&keywords=planner

I freaking love a good hot toddy! I need to get the pillows, too.
I think it’s so cute that Jackson makes his own calendars!

I love hot toddies – ill or well. I put my own twist on them when I’m sick and add some cut up ginger to clear up my nose.

Here’s my polite editing suggestion: “This is my favorite sports bar for big boobs ”

Surely you meant to write bra rather than bar? Otherwise I’d love to know your favorite sports bars for big boobs 🙂 I’m guessing Hooters?

The Chpion sports bra that you suggested for those of us with smaller boobs is amazing. It is one of my favourites because none of the straps dig on and I don’t get a uni boob. I should probably replace mine since it’s getting old.

I read somewhere that sports bras should only last a year. But if you do daily vigorous exercise and need 5-6 (since I do laundry bi weekly)…. That’s a lot of sports bras per year. I still have some that are 5-7 years old.

For the record, one can never have too many winter coats.

Anthropologie boggles my mind sometimes… Seriously a decorative garbage can? For $100? Of course it’s called the West Village Can.
I also love winter coats. I have a few. Not down ones (it’s never cold enough here) but wool ones. I also made a wool one a few years back out of plaid, in a pattern from the 60’s (the lapels are giant!). I also just ordered a toggle coat that is on sale right now from Pendleton. I may have a problem and may need an intervention…
