2016 Holiday Gift Guide for Women

canstockphoto23445258

Before I present this year’s gift guide for women: today is Giving Tuesday, and also day two of our fifth annual DW holiday book drive. We’re nearly 100% to our goal of 215 books, but still have a few more left to be purchased. Please consider contributing to this drive and giving a memorable gift to some high-needs kids who might not otherwise feel so acknowledged and remembered this holiday season. Thank you!! And now, some of my favorite gifts for women in 2016:

Vellabox is a candle subscription company that sources high quality candles hand-poured by American artisans and combines them with a lifestyle gift and beautiful packaging style for the recipient to open every month. I received a sample a few weeks ago and loved the candles included and have been burning them almost daily since. There are three different monthly value subscriptions available at 3-, 6-, and 12-month options.

I love your holiday gift guides! Thanks Wendy. I’m actually ahead of the game this year. I have one more to order for my nieces and then a couple of small items to pick up.

That’s what I’m ordering my nieces. I also got them a personalized journal. But how fun does the sled look?

Please tell me there is a men’s gift guide coming out soon! I have no idea what to get my fiance. I gave all the good gift ideas to both sets of parents and his siblings. Ugh.
I’ve got one practical half of his gift, but he likes fun/impractical gifts. HALP ME.

I really like the site Uncommon Goods. Check them out, they have a mix of practical/just for fun/unique gifts. I’ve gotten stuff for my boyfriend, my mom, and myself on there previously.

You’re a good gift picker-outer, Wendy. I am TERRIBLE with stuff. I need help, always. But is it bad that I want to opt out of the gift giving this year? I just bought my sister tickets to Hamilton right around Xmas and now I’m muy broke, LOL. I’m going to need to suck it up and stop being a scrooge to others in my family.

Since my sister just had a baby, I’m up to two nieces and a nephew. I told everyone I was not buying for Brother In Laws this year. I know it shouldn’t be about money. But when you start spending $150 per family and only receive a $30 – $50 gift back, it gets a little old. So, I buy for my nieces/nephew and my sisters. Plus, one BIL, I always just bought a gift card because I never know what to get him. Lame.

When we all started having kids, we dropped giving gifts to our siblings. Why not suggest that for next year? Or do a secret santa among the adults and then give gifts to just the kids (and maybe your parents).

We (the adults in my family) do a gift card exchange. One to a restaurant and one to something practical that most people could use. Walmart, Target, a gas card, etc. And then make it a white elephant gift exchange. Roughly $20-$25 per gift card.

Ha! My mom told me she cried when she saw the Hamilton cast talk to Pence. That incident drew my attention to what Hamilton actually is, a Broadway musical. I had no clue. So I was drunk and bought us two tickets on Stubhub for the holiday week. When I sobered up, I was like, wtf did I do??? They are $850 each!!! I had enough awards miles for the W in Times Square and we’ll take the train down there. Her friends are super jealous, which cracks me up.

She said she never thought she’d get to see it, which makes me feel good.

That’ll be so fun! I can’t wait to see it. I am not usually that into theater (I know, I know that sounds horrible, but I just… I just I dunno, it just rarely moves me; maybe I haven’t seen good theater?), but I’m anxious to see what the fuss is about. Think it’s one of those things where you should listen to the soundtrack ahead of time (like a concert, where, in my opinion, it’s more fun when you already know the songs) or where it’ll be more fun to walk in blind and be surprised?

AP, I’m going in Feb! People have told me that I should listen to the soundtrack before I go, so I still need to do that.

And Kate, that’ll be a great night out with your mom!

Are you going in Chicago or NYC, Addie? I kind of feel the same, I’m nervous I might not be that into it. I absolutely love Les Mis, but never really got into any other musicals too much. I think I will go in blind rather than listen to the soundtrack first.

The Travel Posters, too. But truthfully, I am trying to forget them as they are SO ME and not what I need to buy right now… 😉

I totally did buy the Nasty woman shirt and its a bit snug over my bump even though I got the XL already… but I will do the thing where you cut holes in it and lace it up with a shoelace if I need the extra space to wear the damn thing on inauguration day.

Speaking of inauguration day… there’s several buses leaving from Chicago for the Women’s March on DC. She’s taking her two girls, who I think are 12 and 9, or something like that. Such a great think to take them to!
