Hey, look! It’s the first snow of the season here in NYC, and it’s not even Halloween. But it will be next week, and then after that it’s like a blink of an eye and it’s Thanksgiving and then Hanukkah and Christmas and New Year’s, oh my. Fine by me, really. I’ll be glad to have 2014 behind me. I can’t point to any one thing in particular that was spectacularly awful (on a personal level, I mean; the world has certainly seen some spectacularly awful things this year), but in general 2014 kind of blew (or has blown, I guess, since it’s not over yet). I feel like every month, I’ve been thinking, “Oh, that was a hard month, I’m glad that’s done.” And then the next month is just as challenging/stressful/tiring. So, now I’m just accepting that the rest of the year is probably a wash, especially with a move coming up in a couple of weeks (which will be a good thing when it’s done and we’re settled, but, when you’re in the thick of it, moving sucks), but maybe 2015 will make up for all of it. One hopes.

Anyhoo, sorry, I didn’t mean for this to be such a downer of a weekend post. Let’s talk about something more cheerful. Does anyone have early Halloween plans? Or fun fall weekend stuff planned? For the first weekend in I can’t remember how long, we actually don’t have a single thing planned. No kids’ birthday party or pumpkin carving or trips out of town or anything. We’re hoping we get keys to our new place a week early and can maybe start moving some things over. And painting! I don’t love painting, but I love the way it transforms a space into a home. And when you do it yourself, I think it gives you a chance to literally feel the space out, to get to know it. I love interior design and sometimes think it could have been a good career for me to pursue. But I also think it’s one of those things that, if I did for a career, I wouldn’t like anymore. So, I’m glad to have a new space in which to flex some of the creative muscles that have been dormant recently. Hmm, maybe the remainder of 2014 isn’t a wash after all. Maybe most of the good stuff will just be packed into the final couple of months. It is almost the season of Baileys Martinis.

2014 has been pretty sucktacular in general. Hopefully 2015 will bring better things.

This weekend is my annual Halloween bash and I’m. So. Excited! I get excited every year about my party. It’s my favorite holiday (like, 19+ Rubbermaid containers of Halloween stuff, 1 of Christmas). I have a ton of great friends and family coming and even a few people I haven’t seen in a long time. Yay!

I’m super pumped for this weekend. I have travelled the past three weekends (memphis and NY) for three weddings so I am finally having a relaxing and lazy weekend. The farmers market opens tomorrow and I am so excited! I’m going to make cobbler!

I know! She was such a kind lady. Here’s the story (didn’t mean to leave out the details). She hadn’t been feeling too well lately – I remember a couple of weeks ago when I saw her she said she was feeling really tired. I saw her Wednesday evening when I drove her home and she said she was feeling sick but that Dayquil helped. The next day (yesterday) she was supposed to walk Moose as scheduled (11 am, 3 pm) but I also asked her to sit with Moose in the evening because I had plans. (I know, Moose is not spoiled at all.) Typically when she does this she stays all evening and watches TV/hangs out until I get home and I drove her home. Well on Thursday when I got home she wasn’t there, which was odd. Plus she hadn’t fed Moose. Plus she hadn’t left notes like she normally does. All of that was very odd. Plus I checked with the front desk and she hadn’t signed in like she normally does. PLUS when I called her cell this am it went straight to voice message. All of this was making me fear the worst. The worst being that she was sick or something – not dead! Well I had the number to the reference she gave me when I first hired her earlier this year – a woman the dog walker has worked for for years – and she told me the story. After walking her dog Thursday am she said she wasn’t feeling well and wanted to lay down, so she did, and she just died. I don’t know why. So that’s how her story ends. I feel bad for canceling her ham and cheese sandwiches. She really had no one looking out for her. She was so sweet. Gawd I feel absolutely terrible about this.

        canceling ham and cheese?

That is so very sad 🙁 I know she loved the doggies

Yeah, I used to make her lunch every day. Because she’d always bring McDonald’s and crap to eat. And I asked her what she likes and she said “ham and cheese on rye” so I started making her sandwiches every day but it was getting really exhausting b/c I never go to the grocery store – not regularly, anyway – and it was becoming like this huge burden that I just… I just had to stop for my sanity! So I did. She was fine with it. She also used to eat my nuts and drink my soda which was starting to bug me b/c nuts are expensive! plus i don’t drink soda often so she’d drink through my cans before I even had one. I feel bad but there’s a 6-pack hidden in the produce drawer precisely so she wouldn’t find it and drink it all. I’m such a cheap ass.

I feel you Wendy, 2104 hasn’t been a great year for me either. Great things have happened, but then something terrible happens to either balance out the good or make things worse. I started my nurse practitioner program in September and I love it, but I’m also exhausted and I miss having social interaction with people other than my classmates. The people in my program are great for the most part, but I feel some grad school drama and cliques cropping up that my friends in other programs warned me about and I just have no interest in dealing with it. On a kind of positive note, I have clinical this weekend and that is hands down my favorite part of my program. Last week, my patient grabbed my hand and thanked me for taking the time to spend with him since being in the hospital can be lonely and scary when his wife and kids aren’t around. It squeezed my heart and reminded me why I’m putting myself under all this stress in the first place.

    I agree that 2014 has been a rubbish year. I’m ready to say “f u 2014!”

Good friend of mine gets into town tonight and we’re going to Ethiopian Diamond for dinner. Tomorrow, we have a bridal shower and bachelorette party for a friend (which will be fun to go out and just dance etc).

Looking forward to a more relaxing sunday, though. Radio Voice (quick! AP! what’s his call sign again?) and I are going to wander through Lincoln Park and the lily pond and see all the fall colors.

The new job hasbeen crazy busy and stressful. I’ve been traveling a lot and just trying to pick up the pieces that have been given to me. It’ll get better though. I’m glad I switched and I do love the challenge.

So this is pathetic, but last Saturday night I watched “the breakup” at home alone and just could NOT STOP BAWLING. I think I need to have a regular ‘cry.’ I still feel sad about the divorce and everything even though I know it was for the best

2014 so far has actually been really good for me. 2012 and 2013 pretty much sucked so anything would have been better! Haha. Navy Guy and I are approaching 1 year of dating as of the end of November. A YEAR. I really can’t believe it, but it’s been a smooth and good ride so far! He’s such a fantastic guy. We’re also at that stage where we discuss where things are going from here which of course exciting but scary in a way too.
Ummm…not too much planned for the weekend. Craft fair tomorrow with my mom. That’ll be fun! Plus I have both kitties since NG has reserves this weekend!! Wheeeee!

2014 has a been a great year for me so far. I was due one! Got married, business is BOOMING, we’re finally getting to a point of financial growth and comfort. Hopefully I’ll be pregnant by the end of the year, too! (I even have a couple of sports team victories that seem too stupid to write about!) Really, though, it’s been a long time since I’ve been able to look back on a year and feel good about it. I honestly cannot remember the last time I’ve been able to do that. I feel like it’s all up from here.

2014 is just flying by for me!
And the next few weeks are busy busy busy, tons of stuff to do with the house (buying light fixtures, getting stuff delivered), and HOPEFULLY moving mid-late november. Tons of activities for school (sports days, festivals, 6 yos 1st overnight camp!)
AND next saturday the new neighbourhood has organized trick or treating! Halloween isnpt really a thing here, but it is starting to gain momentum in neighbourhoods like our new one. I was hoping the girls would go as Elsa and Anna (since they have the costumes already), but 6 year old is set on being a zombie, and 3 year old a princess (I know Anna is a princess, but Anna alone doesn´t make much sense). Luckily she has like a billion other princess costumes to fall back on.
I also REALLY have to get to work on 6 year olds bday, which is early december. Time is going by so quickly, and I only have like one day a week I can actually get stuff done.

Oh, crap – I spent another year procrastinating and didn’t get many of the things done I had hoped to in 2014. I still have two months to get it together – maybe I can still turn it around.
