Weekend Open Thread

Happy Friday, everyone! This has surely been one of the more exhausting weeks of my life. If you follow my Instagram stories, you know we moved yesterday! There’s Miles above recovering, after hiding behind the bath tub for 11 hours straight. I’m also recovering, but mostly unpacking and organizing and overseeing the renovations that are continuing for another week or two. Right now, we can’t move anything into the kids’ bedroom yet (long story short: mold was found in their bedroom wall, which was traced to a really hard-to-get-to leak, which will hopefully be patched in the next week), so the hallway is filled with boxes of toys and books that we can’t unpack just yet because there’s no place to put them. The kids are being troopers about that so far, but it’s only been 24 hours, so we’ll see how long before they demand we start opening boxes. On an upside, with all the excitement, they’ve temporarily forgotten about their stash of Halloween candy (yes, they still have Halloween candy left and it’s been the bane of my existence, which is saying something). Oh, and on top of a move this week, Drew also had some drama at work. Maybe you heard about it?

Anyway, before I get back to unpacking, I have to give big thanks, again, for another successful holiday book drive!! All six registries (with a total of 240 books) were fulfilled in just over 24 hours, and the six participating teachers have been notified and send their gratitude (I do, too). This has become one of my favorite holiday traditions, and it’s because of you and your generosity that I get to feel good, so thank you.

This morning I got an email from our contractor congratulating us on moving into our “forever home.” This is my 22nd home (if you count every place I lived in for 9 months or longer), my 10th since graduating from college 19 years ago. I think it’s going to take me a while to process the idea of “forever.” For now, I’m focusing on clearing a path for Santa in a few weeks, and finding a perfect spot to put up a tree.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Congratulations on the house, Wendy! I’ve been following your stories very closely because I’m right behind you! We closed on our first “forever” home a few weeks ago, but the Thanksgiving holiday delayed our starting line. We’re starting our pre-move renovations tomorrow! I hope you’ll share some before and afters of your updates!

Congrats on starting your renovations. I hope you don’t have any unpleasant surprises like we did and that things go very smoothly.
I’ll be happy to share some before and after pictures when we’re done! Or, maybe just after pictures. It occurs to me that I didn’t think to take many before pictures, which I guess makes me a bad blogger.

We just moved into our first house too! We’re having some small work done and I’m so excited for it to be finished. Good luck to both of you, va-in-ny and Wendy! I hope everything goes smoothly and you love both of your places!

Congratulations to everyone on their homes!!! We bought our house 2 years ago but only finally got around to doing our kitchen renovation this fall. I hope everyone has as quick and painless a reno as one can possibly have.

I would love pics Wendy! I love your style and can’t wait to see what you do with your new home.
