We need a palate cleanser after yesterday (this post, the stolen Supreme Court seat, all of it). So, let’s discuss things bringing us joy or entertainment and things that make our lives a little better or more convenient during this wackadoodle time. (Kate, I’m looking at you for a beauty rec, I know you must have one.) Here are a few of mine:
1. Harry Styles’ new video for “Golden” because Harry Styles running wild with a loose white shirt unbuttoned to the middle of his chest is the balm we all need.
2. David Letterman interviews with Lizzo and with Dave Chapelle in new episodes of “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction.”
3. The new Borat movie (and specifically, the fertility dance scene).
4. These slippers, which pretty much never leave my feet when I’m home, which means they never leave my feet because I’m home all the time. (Tip: It takes a few days to break these in, but once you do they’re perfect!).
5. This butternut squash soup recipe, which I’ve made for years and am still not even a tiny bit tired of; I could eat it for lunch every day for the next four months and be happy. Ish. All things considered. (Tip: I use only maybe 1/2 cup of cream cheese and that’s plenty).

The Borat movie..My gosh, i CRINGED DURING THE WHOLE THING. Holy fckk. The people who actually need to see it will never watch it though.

Borat movie is hilarious.
Beauty recs:
Olive & June nail polish – it’s 7-free AND long-lasting, and they sell awesome kits and tools that make it so easy to do manis (and pedis now too!) at home. I have like 6 of their polishes and several of the tools and am now a pro at basic manis, even with bold colors.
I used to get weekly blowouts but now I just DIY with either the Revlon One Step or the John Frieda brush. Great products are Living Proof 5-in-1 styling cream, as well as the Color Wow Style on Steroids and Pop & Lock Glossing Cream (all with heat protection), and Color Wow Raise The Root volume spray. I also take biotin gummies.
Essy Naturals eyelash serum from Amazon made my eyelashes grow really long (been using for a year now).
Maybelline Baby Lips tinted balms instead of lipstick.
And I start every day with a green smoothie, women’s multivitamin, a walk, and some kind of prison workout. This all makes the day better.

Can second the Maybelline Baby Lips, they’re really good and smell great.

I also ordered skeleton pajamas for me, my husband, and the dog. And then my parents wanted them too. So we will go see them on Saturday and take stupid family pictures in PJs and slippers, and if they get any trick or treaters they can be like, look, we’re boomers dressed as skeletons! My mom decorated their front porch so we can use it as a backdrop.

Styles is alright to look at it. Fine if blandly genetic to hear. But Damn! That shirt is fucking ghastly. He needs a better stylist. Somebody got paid to dress him and THAT’s the result?
Yikes.
I don’t get Borat. Or the actor behind him who I have been trying desperately to like ever since he first irritatingly popped up on my radar by appearing in Madonna’s MUSIC video. I dunno… he can’t act. At all. Much of his Borat schtik seems like just lame ethnic stereotyping. Yeah… I don’t get it. I just don’t. ?♂️
Admittedly… it IS fascinating that so many high profile people are dumb enough to fall for his utter nonsense. But in the end it depresses me. If you somehow get access to people like Rudy, why even bother humiliating him on camera? Why not just fucking kill him?
And yes — my mood is THAT dark.

Ditto. He got that close to Chaney and made him sign a waterboard?!

RIGHT!!!! You get it! ?

Fry up some sage in butter until it’s crispy and garnish the soup. It’s so good.

I am excited about The Mandalorian season 2 hitting this week. I actually really liked this show first season.
