Oddest thing my fiance insisted on for our registry: candle holders. Who knew!? The Le Creuset cast iron dutch oven is the thing I want the most though.

Wendy—the milk bottle holder is out of stock.

Ugh, candle holders. I was not paying attention to Lil the other day when she asked if she could use stuff for a craft (which coincidentally looks just like that pastry tier thing above) and she used 2 new (kate spade!) plates that were a gift and a fucking crystal candle holder to make it. I need to listen more.

Does Lil do weddings? I think child labor could easily fit into our budget and she obviously has great taste.

Haha, now I think you need to create a registry JUST for a hot glue gunned jewelry holder made of expensive dishes and candle holders. 😉

I want all these things. And I love milk glass and am secretly hoping I inherit my grandma’s collection.

We’re not registering and our wedding isn’t until October so it looks like I’ll just have to order the cat tea towel for myself right now. Oh well! I love all of these things though.

Thanks a lot, CMH! This is what I get for complaining that Llama Guy wants to spend too much on a wedding cake – now I want to buy all the llama and cat tea towels in the world.

Boooo, cake. We’ve decided instead of doing a groom’s cake and centerpieces, we’ll kill two birds with one stone and do pies for each individual tables. OR you could tell Llama Guy that you need tea towels as cake decorations!

We’re not doing a groom’s cake or centerpieces, we’re just going to have lots of flowers in vases and hanging from shepherd’s hooks around his mom’s yard (the wedding is at her log cabin). I like the idea of pies for each table though! I’m actually getting the majority of the decorations from garage sales and flea markets. I’m determined to make this a budget wedding even if we do splurge a little for a fancy cake for Llama Guy!

That’s so cool about the cabin! I bet it’s going to be absolutely amazing and beautiful! I about had a heart attack when I found out how much cakes cost. We’re going to have a friend do ours. What kind of cake does Llama Guy want? I’m trying to talk the future Mr. Hobo into something with cream cheese icing. LP if you want another decoration, I can always do you a drawing of a llama bride and a llama groom!

We had originally planned on buying a few maple cream pies and having his aunt make the rest of the desserts (she loves baking and is really good at it), but Llama Guy wants an actual fancy/professional cake for us to cut for photos. We’ve settled on a small fancy cake for us and a simple sheet cake for our guests so we’ll save money and have awesome photos. I’d love a llama bride and groom drawing! I’d totally frame it and put it at our main table. 🙂 Did you see my facebook photos from last weekend? We’re using one of the photos of me in the Junior Ranger hat and him in his Park Ranger uniform as well.

I love the papercraft one. I always do a framed portrait for the new couple in addition to a small gift off the registry, and everyone I’ve done it for has told me that they love them. (It was great, because a lot of them got married when I was flat broke)

When my parents got married, someone had taken the invitation that they received and had it professionally framed. I think they even added some art or something to the mat. It doesn’t seem like much, but it’s still hanging in my parent’s house to this day.

Oh, I’m sad I missed it. I went with gf and her old-like-served-in-Vietnam-old coworker to watch the Flyers/Rangers game at a bar on Friday, though! He really, really thought that gf and I were roommates. And then he asked her if she wanted to see a movie on Saturday. I TOLD her he thought it was a date.

Please tell me you at least saw the highlights. Colin almost chest bumped me after the empty net – game tying goal. We were already standing up and we both were screaming and high fiving and he turned to fully face me and there was a split second where I could tell he was considering chest bumping me. It all happened in slow motion and I definitely gave him the side eye.

Also wouldn’t gf’s co-worker know she’s a lesbian? Why was he asking her out?

        Link
      • Christy April 28, 2014, 3:01 pm

I don’t think I even turned the TV on this weekend. I’ll look up some highlights tonight. And he totally should have chest-bumped you.
        .
And idk what was up with her coworker. Like, she’s a really reserved person, but she’s also really open about me being her girlfriend. I think a lot of people in older generations hear “girlfriend” and ONLY hear “my-friend-who-is-a-girl.” Like, the other definition doesn’t even occur to them. And gf doesn’t really read particularly queer, either.
        .
She had a coworker (male) ask her out before, too. She just turned him down. I don’t think she thought this was a date, though. Dude’s like 50.
        .
I just don’t think she shares as much of her business at work as I do. Like, errybody knows about gf, mostly because I tell my coworkers my personal life. All of gf’s coworkers who know about her personal life know about me. Does that make sense?
        .
Oh and gf isn’t gay, she’s bi. Not that it matters; she’s monogamous ATM.

        Link
      • lets_be_honest April 28, 2014, 3:07 pm

Its rude to refer to your gf as an ATM machine.

        iwannatalktosampson April 28, 2014, 3:12 pm

Well it kind of matters, thanks for clarifying! No one wants to feel like a dick and make wrong assumptions about someone’s sexuality.

I mean it would have been funny if he had actually chest bumped me, but in my head all I was thinking was “who do you think I am?” I have actual boobs which get in the way of chest bumping.

        Link
      • Christy April 28, 2014, 3:42 pm

Right, I just meant that for the purposes of being asked out, it doesn’t matter right now, because she’s in a monogamous relationship. Because you’re right, it does matter. I was too flippant.
        .
And @LBH, that definition of ATM is usually the third one I think of. And also, puh-lease, she’s the one who jokes she has a sugar momma.

We have a really cheap one that I use when we eat out in the sunroom. It’s easier to bring all the stuff out on a tray than carrying each thing individually.

      • Banana April 28, 2014, 1:39 pm

I have a basket-woven tray — I love it for carrying stuff from the kitchen to somewhere else, even if it’s only a few steps, because when you have more than two hands’ worth of stuff even a short distance is a pain to ferry it all back and forth.

This is super! I also really like the selection of items you can personalize. I think that adds a lot to a gift on a special occasion like a wedding. I always want to, but I can’t think of what sort of item to get (and I hate just throwing a monogram on everything). One year I got my middle bro and his wife custom-made greeting cards for Christmas, but then I ran out of ideas!

How do I make him love me? BTW I’m 3 months pregnant.” Because if it’s a week of the latter, I think my head would explode.

They do. I haven’t look at it in a few weeks, so maybe I should look again. I think they’re registered at Target and I got a $25 gift card from my dentist for there for referring a friend to him. I should have spent it on a wedding gift instead of a huge pile of discount easter candy 🙂

Related question someone posed to GG, but open to anyone 🙂 I just poked around their registry and they have a set of storage containers for the kitchen on there…. would it be super duper horrible to get them a similar set of Tupperware brand ones since my mom is a Tupperware consultant and I can get them on the cheap? And they’d be Tupperware, which is pretty much the awesomist (is that a word?) thing ever.

        GatorGirl April 28, 2014, 2:28 pm

I don’t think it would be “super horrible” but it might not be useful. They would already have another set of the not-Tupperware brand ones and want them to match.
        .
In know for our wedding we where gifted two crock pots. Both very thoughtful and nice gifts, but it was hard to figure out what to do since one was the registered for item (that we researched and matched our other appliances) and the other was off registry. Not many people need two crock pots!

      • lets_be_honest April 28, 2014, 2:34 pm

I think for this, its totally fine. Who can’t use extra tupperware? Unless they registered for glass ones, I’d just get whichever you can get a deal on.

I wouldn’t get them. Mostly because when you buy something off the registry it takes if off the list so the couple doesn’t get doubles of stuff. So if you get something similar, someone else might get them the “real” one, then they end up with 2 of basically the same thing.

True – I forget about the whole taking it off the list thing. I saw a few other things on there I might get them, but I may end up throwing in some kind of cool Tupperware that they didn’t even know they needed.

I seriously love, love all of these. I have a similar set of those teeny tiny bowls and I use them all the time. I mostly bought them because they were cute, but definitely useful too.

Someone got us those coffee spoons for our wedding and I adore them, especially because we’re huge coffee drinkers and it’s nice to see in the morning.

I really want those neighborhood coasters. I think I might just buy a lot of these over the next few weeks for myself. Haha I have no weddings to go to this year, someone invite me 🙂

What do you use the bowls for? I have a bunch just because they are cute but have no use for them. (please say something other than spices)

Rudy eats yogurt out of my little bowls. So get a big dog and then feed him yogurt. Problem solved.

Don’t worry I don’t use them for spices actually. I mostly use them for dipping sauces. They’re small so I think they’re perfect for one or two people. I also use them to mix sauces in. And I love pouring sauces on my food so it’s a good way to control myself.

I’ve been doing these “parisian-inpired” dinners for the last month or so for drew and myself after jackson goes to bed — baguette, different cheese, fig jam, almonds, berries — stuff like that. I’ve been using little bowls for the creamy cheeses and jam and berries, etc., so that’s one use for them. Dipping sauces is another great idea.

I did that one Friday night when I was having a particularly shitty week and wanted nothing to do with people! I stopped by Whole Foods and picked up a fancy cheese, a bottle of burgundy to accompany said cheese, a baguette, some fig jam, the french mixed olives from the olive bar and sardines because I wanted to try them. It was a fantastic dinner and cheered me up!

The next week, I had grilled cheeses’s with the fig spread and my fancy cheese. Yum.

Yeah. We’re olive people. And I absolutely love all pickled things. In fact, I’m meeting a friend for dinner tonight and I’ll probably order a “pot of pickled things” – that’s literally what it’s called – off the menu.

Similar to cheese fries – irish nachos are THE BEST. They’re good sober, stoned, hungover, drunk, in a plane, on a train, with pants on, without pants on.. you get the picture.

When I do prep work before cooking, I’ll separate things out in bowls according when I add them and I also group foods that go together at certain times. Little bowls come in handy for that, and hey, why not use pretty ones while cooking?

Haha. YES! Really though, if I don’t prep before I start cooking, I’m a disaster. I’m not good at the timing thing.

I make an excellent sous chef. It’s throwing it all together that needs practice.
