Book Club Reminder and March Pick

Just a reminder that next week we’ll be discussing this month’s book club selection, We Need to Talk About Kevin. If you haven’t yet finished yet (me), there’s still time! Hell, if you haven’t gotten the book yet and you’re a fast enough reader, there’s even time still to find a copy and get started. Not if you have a baby though. If you have a baby and you aren’t at least halfway through the book, you’re probably screwed. Unless you stop watching “Downton Abbey,” and other assorted TV shows, but let’s not be crazy.

And now a drumroll, please. Our book club selection for March is … “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks” by Rebecca Skloot. It was one of our semi-finalists for our first vote and a book that sounded really interesting to me. Plus, it’s in paperback for less than 10 bucks. Score! As always, you can support Dear Wendy and buy through this link (or through the Amazon link in the right sidebar; I get a small commission on any purchases made through that link, which help pay for this site and now help pay for a few hours of babysitting each week so that I can work on this site, hooray!).

We’ll discuss WNTTAK next Tuesday, so be on the look-out.

How convenient, I grabbed that book at the same time as WNTTAK. Looking forward to reading it!

So excited for the March book! I’ve only read a few articles but they are all so fascinating. Can’t wait for the book! And I’m still on page 40 of WNTTAK, I saw a few people post in the forum that if I keep on going and I will get hooked.

    I’m so glad you picked that for March because I’m already halfway through it…I’m a librarian…and I read a lot…and I should socialize more…

Splendid! Just wish the Kindle edition we’re $0.30 MORE than the paperback *harrumphs*

I’ve been wanting to read this book. Now I have an excuse to buy it and read it sooner rather than later! Can’t wait!!

Yay! I’m reading Henrietta Lacks right now. I’ve been wanting to read it for years but my book club only reads fiction and I can’t seem to handle more than one read a month.

My book club did read We Need to Talk About Kevin. Here’s a tip to those like me that are having a rough time getting through it: read the end first. I’ve never ever done that before, but I found the main character’s writing style so pretentious that I finally resorted to it. For me, it made it much easier to get where she was coming from by reading about the incident first and then going back. I only recommend this if you are having a hard time getting through the book but still want to participate in Wendy’s discussion.

I just got WNTTAK. I don’t have much going on these days, so hopefully I’ll finish it by the end of the month.

Hey Wendy, I have a question-

I just got a e-reader, and I was wondering if you know if you could purchase e-books through your link? And if it’s possible, does it have to be a kindle (which is endorsed by amazon) or if you can buy them for nooks as well?

Yes, as long as you follow any link to amazon from DW, I will get a commission on any purchase you make, whether it’s a hard book, an e-book or a pair of cat pajamas.

I’m in Canada. If I follow the link to Amazon.com and then switch it to Amazon.ca and order my e-book that way, does it still help you?

Amazon e-books can only be read on a Kindle (they’re proprietary that way which is why I’d never get a Kindle) If you have a smart phone/tablet there is a Kindle app if you want to purchase through the link but don’t have a Kindle. I used the Kindle app to buy/read the book my brother wrote because it’s only available as a Kindle book right now.

That’s what I was afraid of. I have a nook mostly for that reason.
