UPDATE: After 26 hours, two teacher’s registries (Ono’s and Katie’s) are completely fulfilled! We’re about 75% to our goal of one book each for 200 participating students. Thanks so much for your continued generosity and for spreading the word!
It’s day two of our 4th annual DW Holiday Book Drive and despite some tech issues, we’re over halfway to our goal of getting one book for all 200 students participating in this year’s drive! If you’re looking for an opportunity to give this holiday season, the book drive is your chance. See how excited the beneficiaries of last year’s drive (pictured above) look! Johanna, one of this year’s participating teachers, said that some of her students who received books from us two years ago still carry those books with them and talk about how happy they were to receive them. It may not seem like a big deal to those of us who can buy books on the regular (or have access to great libraries) or grew up knowing there were going to be gifts under the Christmas tree, but for these kids that’s not the case, and a $7 book gifted to them from a stranger via their classroom teachers is not only a thrill, it sends a message that they matter. Don’t underestimate what a big deal your gift is to someone who doesn’t have his or own book and may not get any other gift this holiday season.
So far, we’ve fulfilled

Johanna J. teaches 5th grade science and reading at a Title 1 school in the small rural town of Halifax, North Carolina. She has 85 students, many of whom love reading but don’t have access to new books. Students’ reading levels range from 2nd to 8th grade. She and the other 5th grade teachers at her school are planning a special delivery of the books you send, complete with a Santa costume! Johanna says that this book drive will truly make magic happen for her students. You can follow her classroom to see your donations at work at @msjorgenparker on Instagram.
