Drinking with Dear Wendy: Black Irish

The world is on fire, the plague is upon us, and many of us are about to see our lives get disrupted in lots of big and small ways, but St. Patrick’s Day is next week and people still have their vices, so I made up a new cocktail. It’s called a Black Irish and it’s only three ingredients: Guinness; Jamison; and Mr. Black, which you may recall from my viral (it wasn’t viral) Martini Espresso video. It’s super easy to make, very delicious, and full of caffeine, striking the perfect balance of taking the edge off while also putting a little fuel in your engine. It got me through the dark…

Drinking with Dear Wendy: Bourbon and Ginger

I’m taking a break from drinking until the end of the month, but I made this video a couple weeks ago when I was still over-indulging. It’s based on a drink I discovered at my friend’s wedding in June and subsequently enjoyed most for the summer. I’ve since added bubbly and apple cider to make it a fun larger scale harvest punch, but I will have to share that recipe with you another time. For now, this super simple bourbon and ginger could not be easier to make and it goes down dangerously well. I love it as a transitional summer-to-fall cocktail, and I hope you will, too! Bourbon and Ginger 3…

Drinking with Dear Wendy: Pimm’s Cup

Pimm’s Cup 1 Persian cucumber, thinly sliced 1 Cup Pimm’s 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice 1/2 cup Fever Tree ginger beer Sliced seasonal fruit like: lemons, oranges, strawberries, and rhubarb Muddle half the cucumber in a cocktail shaker, add the Pimm’s, lemon juice, and some ice. Cover and shake, shake, shake. Strain into two ice-filled, chilled glasses, about 3/4 full. Top with ginger beer and stuff with fruit and additional half of the cucumber. Amaze and be amazed.

Drinking With Dear Wendy: Old Flame

If you follow my stories on Instagram, you probably already know that I’ve been working on a couple new Drinking with Dear Wendy cocktails and videos for winter, and I’m excited to share the first one of 2019 with you today. (Full disclosure: it’s amazing!) I took one of my favorite summer drinks — an Aperol Spritz — and winterized it with some bourbon, I added a twist of lemon and a little sweetness to balance the bitter, and after a little tweaking I dare say I have the perfect cocktail to enjoy on a cold day (preferably next to a fireplace if you’ve got one). After much deliberation and crowd-sourcing, I…

Drinking With Dear Wendy: The Perfect Gin & Tonic

I may have already had one or two Gin & Tonics when I filmed this newest episode of Drinking with Dear Wendy… Ingredients: 2 ounces of good gin (I like Hendricks) 3 ounces of good tonic (Fever-Tree or Q Tonic) Slice of cucumber Lemon rind Oh, and this is the lipstick (in Nahz Fur Atoo – satin-matte blood crimson). 🙂 Related: How to Make a Bailey’s Martini and How to Make Honeydew Vodka

Drinking with Michael: How to Make a Ginger Whiskey

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2pkK1XqMHQ&feature=youtu.be Yesterday I arrived in Chicago, where I’m spending four nights and three full days catching up with old friends, sleeping in (hopefully, since for some reason, even when I’m away from Jackson and don’t have to wake up at the crack of dawn, my body is still like, “Wake up, wake up, wake up!” which is super annoying), dancing, drinking, eating, beaching, biking, rinse, repeat. One of the friends I’ll be seeing is my lovely pal, Michael, who will be flying in from Austin. He is a man of many talents, but one of his best is his mad bartending skills. Truly, he’s a big inspiration for my whole Drinking with…

Drinking With Dear Wendy: Honeydew Vodka

Last week I went out for drinks with my friend Mary to a new neighborhood spot called Bar Chuko (across the street from its sister location, Chuko, which has some of the city’s best ramen, fyi). I ordered something called a “Cucumber Melon Fizz” which was described as “cucumber, honeydew melon vodka, soda.” It was one of the best drinks I’ve ever had in my life (and I’m counting non-boozey stuff, too, like milkshakes and lemonade freezes). Seriously, it was good. So, when I got home, I tried to find a recipe for it but failed. Then, I decided to try to recreate it as best as I could. I started…

Drinking with Dear Wendy: Pomegranate Margaritas!

I’ll admit: my dorkiness is in full effect on this one, but don’t let that dissuade you from the drink itself. I made up the recipe and it’s pretty damn good if I do say so myself: For two Pomegranate Margaritas 3 shots tequila 2 shots fresh lime juice (reserve two slices of lime to rim glasses) 1 shot triple sec 2 shots pomegranate juice kosher salt Fill cocktail mixer will ice, tequila, lime juice, trill sec, pomegranate juice. Take margarita glasses out of freezer, rim outside with lime slice and kosher salt. Mix the cocktail shaker and pour equally into glasses.
