This has been kind of a long week. Jackson’s babysitter, who watches him three mornings a week, is on vacation, so I’ve been trying to squeeze in work in the early, early hours before Drew goes to work and in the spare minutes here and there while Jackson is occupied with play-doh or books or writing his ABCs over and over. But on top of that, I got hit with allergies this week and haven’t been sleeping well, and then yesterday I got some kind of bug or something and threw up everything I ate all day and just generally felt lousy all afternoon. I’m better today, but tired. And it’s raining. So, yeah, long week.
But this morning I was showing Jackson the site, which he’s seen before but doesn’t quite understand what it all means, and I was explaining that I’m Dear Wendy and people write letters to me asking questions and then I answer their questions and publish my answers on the site. He was fascinated by all of this and declared that he wanted to be Dear Jackson. He wouldn’t drop it either. He kept asking where his letters were. So, on the forums, I invited people to write questions to him, and he was so excited when a few were posted. Here he is reading and answering a couple (by the way, the “Read in English” statement is in reference to Jackson saying EVERYTHING these days in “Spanish,” which isn’t so much Spanish as it is gibberish that he makes up and calls Spanish). Anyway, here he is (I asked if it was ok if I posted the videos here and he said yes, by the way):

TOO AWESOME.

Dear Jackson,

UPDATE: Thank you for reading and answering my letter. I agree with you! I think I want a cat, too.

WENDY, YOUR KID IS WHACK!!!!!! But also totally adorable. Blueberries and mushrooms….. I’ll let him live a little.
Crochet.Ninja March 26, 2015, 12:34 pm
that is AWESOME reading for his age. I think Jackson should have a weekly spot 😉
Sunshine Brite March 26, 2015, 12:38 pm
I am so happy this happened.
shg23 March 26, 2015, 1:14 pm
The cuteness! Love his little boy voice!
Red_Lady March 26, 2015, 1:30 pm
I love this!! Such a cutie!!!
Eve Dallas March 26, 2015, 1:31 pm
So cute, but I’m not so sure blueberries and mushrooms go together. But he’s just so adorable, Wendy! Little boys are such a joy! And he’s such a good reader already! Keep it up!
honeybeenicki March 26, 2015, 2:03 pm
Oh my gosh. That was fabulous. I’ve been having a rough day (mostly trying to figure out my FMLA/Short Term Disability/Maternity Leave/Still being able to feed myself while I’m off) and that just made it completely better. I don’t know that I’d try blueberry and mushroom ice cream since I don’t like mushrooms, but it does sound intriguing.
mylaray March 26, 2015, 2:17 pm
Jackson is adorable and sweet!
Addie Pray March 26, 2015, 2:32 pm
This is my favorite new feature!
honeybeenicki March 26, 2015, 2:42 pm
I think it should definitely be a permanent addition.
Pamplemousse Rose March 26, 2015, 3:03 pm
So adorable!! I watched the videos with my 10 month old and she clapped whenever Jackson was talking.

And thanks for playing along. It’s been a very long day in a very long week. None of us has gotten much sleep — I’ve had pregnancy insomnia and allergies and then some sort of fast flu-like bug and Jackson has had nightmares — and we’re so exhausted today and it’s raining so we can’t go out and play and our regular playdate friends are in school or unavailable today, so these questions gave us one more activity for our indoor rotation.

He is so stinkin’ cute! Thank you, Jackson, for your wisdom, and thank you, Wendy, for sharing!
Moneypenny March 26, 2015, 3:30 pm
Aww, these are so cute! I totally missed the forum today. He’s adorable!! And I like kitties too.
Also, it was so funny to hear Wendy’s voice! It’s not how I thought it would be in my head. haha.
Dear Wendy March 26, 2015, 3:34 pm
I have different voices! The one on the videos is my allergy-stricken, sleepy, mom voice.
Lianne March 26, 2015, 3:57 pm
Adorable! I am glad you had a novel way to entertain him today. Hope you are both able to get outside tomorrow 🙂
And agree with everyone. I am super impressed with his reading!
rocketgirl March 26, 2015, 6:22 pm
Thank you for this today – he is wonderful!
Anna March 26, 2015, 6:26 pm
That was so cute! And I would try his blueberry mushroom ice cream if I were lactose intolerant. Sometimes sweet and savory goes well together, like bacon and maple icing on a donut.
Lyra March 26, 2015, 6:41 pm
I really haven’t had much of a maternal instinct yet (I love my kiddos but I also love sending them home with their parents after school haha), but this is ridiculously cute!
Sonia March 26, 2015, 10:38 pm
So. Freaking. CUTE!!!!!
Nookie March 27, 2015, 5:47 am
Aw bummer, I don’t have speakers on my computer at work. What was Jackson’s verdict on giraffe vs. monkey please?
Dear Wendy March 27, 2015, 9:42 am
Giraffe! It was no contest — he loves giraffes
Nookie March 27, 2015, 9:47 am
I have to say, he has excellent taste.
Girafe March 31, 2015, 8:52 am
I approve! He is the cutest!
Giraffes are the best. Girafe (French spelling of Giraffe) is pronounced : gee-r-ah-f.
Kate March 27, 2015, 9:57 am
Ha, that’s adorable!
Ani Nani March 27, 2015, 10:10 am
These were great, Wendy! I can’t believe how big Jackson is now and how well he is reading!
MsMisery March 27, 2015, 11:41 am
These are great. Thanks, Jackson, for participating. And keep up the good work. Reading is muy importante (since he likes his Spanish!).
Dear Wendy March 27, 2015, 11:49 am
Thank you, everyone! Of course, I’m a proud mom! The reading is impressive (among his other intellectual developments), but best of all he’s just a really sweet (and funny) kid.
.
We just got back from his first school performance where he and his classmates (none of whom are native spanish speakers) sang four songs in spanish. If I weren’t already knocked out, I think my ovaries might have exploded over all the cuteness.
