Our first annual Dear Wendy picnic in Central Park on Saturday was a success! Drew, Jackson, my friend Chad who was visiting from Chicago, and I found a shady spot in Sheep Meadow, and we were soon joined by Lindsay, Just Max, KerryContrary, Christy, Christiana, Samantha, Fabelle, and Bethany. We had apple cider donuts, tiny cupcakes, whoopie pies, fancy-pants twinkies (there’s a real name for them, but I can’t remember what it is), fruit salad, Moroccan salad, farro salad, orzo caprese salad, mimosas and wine, and Max baked delicious oatmeal cookies, cheddar bars, and Rosemary flatbread. There were bubbles, too. But I forgot my hula hoop. Next time! People came from DC, Philly, Jersey, Queens, and Brooklyn. Next year I’m going to have a prize for the person who travels the farthest. And for the one with the best laugh.
The boys took off after an hour and then we got down to business. It was like Dear Wendy forums come to life. With booze. And tiny cupcakes. And someone — I’m not going to name any names — kept lifting her dress to show off her nude-colored shorts, so there was that, too. Basically, what I’m saying is we had a good time, and I’m looking forward to doing it again next year. Hope you can make it.

I’ll name names! I’m TOTALLY the least-modest person who was there! (Especially with regard to my AWESOME chub-rub-preventing shorts from Gap.)

Don’t worry, I think I flashed like 200 people over the course of the day. After I left you all I literally had a subway grate blow my dress up on the corner of Columbus Circle. I was the brunette Marilyn Monroe for about 5 seconds. Next year I’m wearing a maxi dress like smartypants’ Bethenny and Wendy. Or nude colored shorts.

For real, I am definitely going to maxi dress route next time! Sitting with my knees like that was so uncomfortable (& I’m sure I also flashed some people, oops)
But everyone should definitely come next time 🙂 It was so cool meeting Wendy, & everybody, & putting faces and voices to names.
(also, Christy called me “Fab” when we were in the subway station, & I totally answered to it.)

Ha! I didn’t know anyone else said “chub-rub”… I used to sell Pure Romance products as a side business and one of their products (Between the Sheets) works great at preventing chub-rub and I would say that at the parties/shows and people would act like I made that up.

Chicago people, we MUST have a meetup soon and it MUST have an even better turnout than the NY picnic… Yes, everything’s a competition.
