Happy 40th Anniversary, Mom and Dad!

Happy Anniversary to my mom and dad who celebrate 40 years of marriage today! This photo was taken circa 1981 or ’82, I think, when my parents were a couple of young’uns (and, yes, they’re tall — 6′ and 6’4″, respectively). On June 25, 1973, my parents got engaged (after an eight-month courtship!), and less than a month later, on July 21, 1973, my parents were married in a chapel in Valparaiso, Indiana. Three weeks after that, they moved to Okinawa, Japan, to begin what would be a 40-year odyssey of living and working and traveling and raising a family overseas.

Earlier this month, my parents made the big move from Germany – where they lived for nearly 24 years — to Missouri, where they will settle and enjoy retirement. They’re beginning a new adventure — one, I’m sure is no less surreal than the one they began 40 years ago — and I wish them the very best.
