Happy Day After!

Happy Boxing Day, everyone! I hope your holidays were and are going great. We celebrated the first night of Hanukkah with a brisket dinner and latkes with apple sauce and some gift-opening. Drew is Jewish and we’re raising the kids Jewish (with the exception of celebrating a secular-style Christmas), and my sister converted to Judaism a few years ago, so she sends the kids Hanukkah gifts, too (and my parents will have some Hanukkah gifts for the kids since we’ll be visiting during the last couple nights of the holiday). After dinner, we switched modes and got the kids in their Christmas PJs, put them to bed, and piled gifts under the tree and into stockings. When Hanukkah falls on Christmas, I tell you what, it’s a good day to be a Condellberry kid. As I put Jackson to bed last night after all the festivities, he said, earnestly: “Mom, what are we doing for Kwanzaa tomorrow?” (Last year, he was so convinced that we should be celebrating Kwanzaa that he was deeply disappointed when he discovered that we don’t. A friend of mine, who’s African American, was like, “Let the kid celebrate Kwanzaa! What’s the harm?” And then she brought him a Kwanzaa gift, and so now he’s, like, really convinced it’s a holiday we celebrate.)

Anyhoo, I cleaned up real good yesterday, with Drew and my parents having paid close attention to my gift guide and various Wendy’s Picks posts. And Drew seemed to like the gifts I gave him, including tickets to see “Oh, Hello” on Broadway next week before it closes. How was your holiday? What were your favorite gifts?

Oh, and here’s a YouTube video from one of the schools that received books from the DW holiday book drive. DW readers get a few shout-outs.

(Light posting this week – I’ll be spending time with the fam and friends, and on Thursday we head to Missouri for a few days. Hope you are also enjoying a low-key weeks with loved ones!)

Anyway, heading to MN tomorrow to finish out the week. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Kwanza, Etc to all! (So how do you celebrate Kwanza? Anyone know who does and how popular it is? Chicago doesn’t seem to be a really big hotspot for it).

Ooh, yeah — in a couple of years, I could see him being very into something like this!

I got this cashmere robe (link below) from my parents in the light grey and I love it. It seems to be on sale. As soon as I laid it down on the bed, the dog eyed it and then got up and lay on it, so I have to be careful where I put it!

I did need new sweaters too, so today my husband and I were in Saks and L&T and I CLEANED UP on cashmere and merino sweaters at crazy sale prices.

And we got Celtics and Red Sox tickets from my parents too. They got Hamilton tickets and a hotel room from us. The rest of the day was a super awkward family shitshow, but I prepped by eating some special chocolate that’s now legal in MA.

That robe is so cute. I have a really sweet spouse, who got me a gift certificate at my favorite salon and painting lessons.

Merry Christmas/Happy Hannukah/Happy Kwanzaa everyone! We had a blast for my son’s first Christmas, and he doesn’t even know what’s going on yet! Can’t wait for next year and the year after when he does.

I’m normally a bit of a Scrooge, but I’ve been having a great holiday so far! I went to the mountains to visit my family over the long weekend. I got to see everyone at least briefly–Mom & stepdad, Grandma, Dad & stepmom, brother & sis-in-law & niece & nephew. My mom and I don’t really go all out for Christmas, so she ended up giving me the money she would have spent on my presents so that I could buy my own. I’ve been online shopping like mad and getting great deals with all the after-Christmas sales!
I came home early because one of my friends bought us tickets to a concert/dance party Monday night. It was so good to let loose, and we danced for hours and hours. We got a lot of attention from these cute guys…who then turned out to be 22 years old. So that was fun! I also briefly reunited with one of my best friends who lives across the country and another friend of ours that we studied abroad with almost ten years ago! I have another 4-day weekend off from work coming up, and I may drive a few hours to see another of my best friends who lives across the country but is in state visiting her parents. She’s currently pregnant, the first of my close friends to have a baby. I’m so excited for her that I’d drive a few hours just to hug her and her bump!
