Happy Thanksgiving!! And to you non-Americans, happy Thursday! I hope that however you celebrate or spend the day, it’s a wonderful one. I will be running my first race today at 9 AM (in freezing temps) — a five-mile “turkey trot” that I have been “training” for for the last few weeks (can you call it training if it’s just a five mile run you’re doing?). In the afternoon, we’re headed to my FIL’s on the Upper West Side, along with my BIL’s family, for a turkey feast and all the trimmings. There will be wine, of course, and I will be toasting to many things I am thankful for this year, including…wine. And you! Thank you for making my little job — running this site — such a fun, fulfilling, and rewarding one. It means so much that you come and spend part of your day or week here. Thank you! And Happy Thanksgiving.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!
bethany November 28, 2013, 9:26 am
I hope you had fun in the race, Wendy!!
Also, be proud that you’re running a race! It’s not *just* 5 miles! It’s 5 freaking miles!! A lot of people can’t even run 1 mile, so be proud of yourself!
I’ve been running since I was 15, but have taken most of the last year off because of some tendonitis, but I’ve really been using that as an excuse for laziness, so I’m going to attempt a running streak from Thanksgiving to Christmas- at least 1 mile, every day. Starting today. In 10 minutes, if I can gather the willpower to get dressed and out the door!
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! I hope you have drama free, enjoyable times with your families and friends! Today, in addition to being thankful for all the great things in my life, I’m thankful for all of you, and Wendy for creating such a great space and community.

This is a strange year, it’s the first major holiday since my Grandfather passed and it still feels weird. I called my family this morning and I keep feeling like I need to call back because I didn’t get a chance to talk to him. But, my sister said that we’re lucky to have happy memories of him to remember and talk about. And we do have many happy memories. He loved holidays and he loved food. He would have loved the ice cream pie I made today!
I’m spending my day with M and the dogs and a few people are dropping in and out who don’t have family in the area and couldn’t or chose not to travel. We have a 25 lb turkey!!! So I bought a pack of those to go food boxes for everybody to take some home in!
Thank you for introducing me to many wonderful people on this site! Some who I talk to on a daily basis and who I consider friends. It’s amazing what one little site can do! 🙂

Katie, Benjamin and I bought a Kitchenaid mixer!! (The big 5 quart one, instead of the 4.5 quart one). It was a great deal, and will be like the only new thing that we put into our new house so I am thrilled. 🙂 It is our Christmas gift for each other, so that made things pretty easy.
Thanks for sending it to me!
katie November 28, 2013, 12:57 pm
Yay!! I’m so glad. I fully support everyone having a kitchenaid.
Happy baking/sausage making/slicing/pasta rolling!!

This is a weird Thanksgiving for me. I’m spending it with my whole family, but without the BF who is home vaguely for thanksgiving but actually for a football game and med school interviews. So I miss him, but I am very grateful that he has the interviews. And I’m very thankful to be accepted to my top choice law school, a very exciting bit of news I received on Monday. I’m thankful all my grandparents are still with us, something that at various points seemed very unlikely over the past couple of years. Even though my grandfather won’t be well enough to join us today, I’m thankful he is well enough to enjoy the leftovers my mom will bring him later this weekend. And I am of course very grateful for wine. My parents have a lot of wine so I am, as per my dad, in charge of moving product. With his family shouldn’t be a problem, but I’m prepared to move it personally nonetheless.

Congratulations!

I’m also thankful for this site. I’m so fascinated by all the people and life experiences and opinions. I’m not the most socially comfortable person in real life and so its really nice to get to hear people’s thoughts and stories and be honest about my own. Wendy, if you read this I hope you can stay as warm as possible and do well in your race. Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Happy thanksgiving to my American friends! And happy birthday to me 🙂 I’ve had a great morning so far. Mr. Grass gave me the best present of 2 hours extra sleep but also some flowers and a spa gift card. And coffee. It’s shaping up to be a great day.

Happy birthday to you!

My birthday was on Thanksgiving last year, so my nephew and niece think today is my birthday. They don’t understand how it could be on Thanksgiving last year but not this year, so we’re celebrating my birthday again today. I’m not complaining.

Happy (belated) Birthday!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Ross and I ran a 5k this morning. Now bring on the booze!
AKchic_ November 28, 2013, 12:26 pm
Happy Thanksgivukkah everybody! *giggle*
I was up late picking up the SO and the kids got up super early so today is going to be even longer than usual.
Wish me luck. I have to spend the day with my extended family (some of which I can’t stand). I have to try to be nice to one in particular because my grandma is there. And my mom only stocked wine (I don’t drink wine). *sigh* Sober dinner for me.
AKchic_ November 29, 2013, 1:30 pm
We survived the dinner. My uncle’s wife was polite. Downright sociable. It was surprising to everyone, to the point that it was gossip after they left. My uncle was almost rude to my friend (she’s transgender), but my rude, crass uncle told him to shut the fuck up and leave the bible out of it in private. There’s a reason I love my crass uncle! Of course, once my friend left, there was some chatter, but nobody CARED, they were more curious than anything. Even my conservative grandmother had nothing more to say than “I thought she was sweet” and said that she didn’t care since it didn’t affect her life any. Yay for my family for being way more tolerant than I’d given them credit for!
In other news – my stepsister’s fiancé swears! I’d never heard him swear before. None of us had. I got to be the first in the family to hear it. He was dropping f-bombs when talking to me and I about bust gut muscles trying not to giggle over it.
Oh, and the food was great. My mom spent a long time cooking a 25 pound turkey.
Wendy November 28, 2013, 12:52 pm
I did it! I did it! I ran the 5-mile race in 47:30 (9:30 mile pace), which was exactly my goal. Yay! Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!!
Addie Pray November 28, 2013, 1:08 pm
That’s awesome, Wendy!!!!!!!!!!!! Now go eat all the turkey and mashed potatoes and gravy and stuffing and pie you can fit in your belly. You deserve it!
rachel November 28, 2013, 1:37 pm
You’re awesome Wendy! My 5k time was worse than your 5 mile time, haha.
othy November 29, 2013, 1:44 am
Your 5k time was faster than my sitting-on-the-couch-stuffing-my-face-with-carbs-all-day time 🙂

I taught my 4 year old nephew to uncork a wine bottle. AUNTIE OF THE YEAR, FOLKS!!
LadyinPurpleNotRed November 28, 2013, 1:17 pm
He’ll be thanking you for that one day soon
Addie Pray November 28, 2013, 3:31 pm
He is getting in trouble though because he keeps going around opening wine bottles he is not supposed to. I’m so in trouble.

“…that you come and spend part of your day or week here” <–I think you mean all day, urry day 😉 Happy Thanksgiving, & congrats on your race!!
I did not get too drunk last night during blackout Wednesday, but we all stayed up for, er, the entire night so I'm EXHAUSTED. I tried to sleep through the morning when I got home, but my body is very anti- daylight sleeping. So that didn't work. But I am looking forward to seeing my family & eating butternut squash ravioli!
CatsMeow November 28, 2013, 4:44 pm
I’ve had appetizers and 2 glasses of wine and I’m already tired and full. HAPPY THANKSGIVING. Also, what’s up with all you runners? This is a day for laziness and gluttony. And thankfulness, I guess. I didn’t do any 5k’s, but I did do a belly dance for my grandma, HA.
Christy November 28, 2013, 8:44 pm
I’m thankful for this wonderful community that you’ve created, Wendy, and I’m thankful for all my DW friends. And I’m thankful for the lurkers who keep this site in business, even if they don’t comment!
Seriously, y’all are the closest friends I’ve made outside of a school setting, ever.

WHO’S WATCHING GAGA AND MUPPETS?!?!
CatsMeow November 28, 2013, 10:30 pm
Seriously, I’m dying. Gaga and Elton? Gaga and JGL? What’s next????? I die.

So, my nieces are awesome. My 3 year old niece declared me the ‘nicest person in the world’. My 16 month old niece is finally warming up to me, and let me hold her all night without crying once. She even fought with her 3 year old sister for my attention. And my 17 month old niece, who lives far away, chatted with me on the phone today. And apparently knows that turkeys say ‘gobagobagoba’.

Hope everybody had a great Thanksgiving!/Thursday! Yesterday was the first holiday since my mother passed, and while it was hard and there were tears, i think my dad, brothers and i did her proud with the feast we made.
And while there doesn’t seem to be a lot of things to be thankful for this year, i am thankful she’s no longer in pain and that i have so much support in my life. I’m also thankful for this site, even though i’m a lurker i’m on here every weekday and feel like i know so many of you.
