Some small housekeeping stuff:
We have new thumbs (again!). More accurately, we have the same thumbs but they only go in one direction and that’s up. In order for your thumb click to count, you have to be logged in. You can log in (and register) either in the navigation bar in the header where it says “login” or at the bottom of the sidebar below “forum activity” where it says “Members.”
I have updated site policies (including commenting policies), which you can find in the navigation bar.
After experimenting with scheduling, I’ve decided to start posting the first column of the day at 8 am EST. This is subject to change, but for now expect to see a column by 8. (European readers, what time do you usually read the site? Does an 8 am EST give you a chance to read on your lunch break, or would a 7 am post-time be better?).
Ok, I think that’s it. As you were.

Wendy, i admit that this is the first time I have ever actually read the commenting policy. While I endorse your right to run the site your way, i think your proscriptions against excessively boring people, people who repeat themselves, people who repeat themselves and assholes may be discriminatory and illegal. I mean, how boring do i have to be to get deleted? Is THIS comment boring enough? Or assholish enough? If not, do you feel like I’m not trying?
Dear Wendy August 6, 2014, 6:26 pm
It’s probably not illegal in Canada.
ktfran August 7, 2014, 9:16 am
I actually laughed out loud at the boring comment.
Diablo August 6, 2014, 6:30 pm
OF COURSE, it’s ILLEGAL to discriminate against boring people in Canada! Otherwise, the whole beige social fabric would tear apart, but not dramatically; maybe more like the slowly ripping seam of an old couch cushion.

Hurray for lovely but boring Canada!

A country best represented by still photographs!

I know you said you took away the mobile site for now. I always preferred the desktop version on my phone, but it now seems smaller. Did the type size change or is it just my eyes?
Dear Wendy August 6, 2014, 7:05 pm
I haven’t changed the font in a long time, so maybe it’s your eyes! Do you read in landscape? That might help.
mylaray August 6, 2014, 7:34 pm
Okay, thanks! I’ll switch to reading in landscape.
Miel August 6, 2014, 7:37 pm
I approve of all of this. You run your site your way, Wendy. You do you!
TaraMonster August 6, 2014, 8:05 pm
So that’s why the thumbs weren’t working! I thought it was my browser at work being a douche.
HmC August 6, 2014, 10:17 pm
I have called a lot of things/people douches, but never a browser. Thumbs up!
jLo August 7, 2014, 2:39 pm
Hello, I’m not sure if this is helpful feedback or not – but the site has become very difficult to read on my phone – tiny font and I have to read in landscape to see a whole comment or forum post. Apologies if there were good reasons to have turned off the ‘mobile’ version of the site but I just bought I’d let you know I miss it very much!
Dear Wendy August 7, 2014, 3:44 pm
Thanks for letting me know. I’ll see what I can do to make the font more readable on phones.
KMJ August 7, 2014, 4:02 pm
I really enjoy your site. That’s all.
MissyC August 8, 2014, 7:39 am
(European reader) I like the 8am EST first post (7am would be fine, too!). It’s after lunch but sometimes if I have a break I can read and try to comment if I have a moment. Just my 2 cents.
Dear Wendy August 8, 2014, 8:37 am
Thanks, Missy!
Portia August 8, 2014, 9:07 am
I miss the mobile site, but I think landscape mode with a larger font will make things a little better.
Dear Wendy August 8, 2014, 9:01 am
Everyone who has commented about the small font on phones: I’m working on the issue and hope to have it resolved by the end of next week (maybe sooner). Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

I am from northern Montana, which is basically Canada. I try to keep my boringness to a minimum. Thanks for the site, Wendy. I love it so much and refer a lot of your links and articles to my friends.
