Good news! For those of you who have asked — and even for those who haven’t — the head banner now links to the homepage when you click it. Hooray! Also! Comments now have an edit feature. It isn’t the most perfect feature, but at this point, it’s the best I can offer. When you go to the “Leave a comment” box, you’ll see two choices now: “Delete your last comment” and “Modify your last comment.” True, this means you can only edit your most recent comment, but that’s a start. If I find a more sophisticated plugin in the future that allows for more edits, I’ll get it installed.
I owe a big thank you and shout-out to reader “LK7889” (you know, the one with the cute cat icon) for coding/installing these features. When she saw that I had hired someone to help out and that he wouldn’t be able to get to it until after his vacation next week, she emailed me and said, “I’m a web developer and I could do it for you in about half an hour.” I took her up on her offer, and true to her word, she had it done lickety-split. She refused any payment, so I hope I can at least direct some attention to the small web and IT start up business she works for (and is a founding member of): AIS Solutions Group, based in Georgia, provides full-service web design, development, and hosting on-site and remotely to both Mac and PC users. If you need fast, friendly, topnotch tech help, be sure to check them out! And thanks again for your help, L!

Did she also include the President’s Day stovepipe hat? Because I am loving it!
_jsw_ February 21, 2011, 11:22 am
Wendy mentioned that Drew did it. 🙂
Wendy February 21, 2011, 11:28 am
Yeah, Drew did it. I can’t wait to see what he has planned for Arbor Day.
Tudor Princess February 21, 2011, 1:06 pm
Perhaps a crown of vines or leaves? The green would look good against your red hair. 🙂
ekb83 February 21, 2011, 11:23 am
How nice of LK7889 to do that for you! Slight glitch though..(maybe just on my end?). Clicking the banner doesn’t bring you to the homepage, but there is a little “Dear Wendy” link right above your hat that does. Was that intentional?
Overall, loving the site Wendy!
_jsw_ February 21, 2011, 11:28 am
WHat browser do you use, ekb83? Any ad-blocking software? For me, I see the banner with no additional link – the link’s embedded in the image.
Wendy February 21, 2011, 11:29 am
Hmm, it’s working fine on my end. Maybe refresh?
PFG-SCR February 21, 2011, 11:31 am
@ekb83: The “Dear Wendy” link above the hat works for me, but not the banner.
sarolabelle February 21, 2011, 11:41 am
same here with IE 8
sarolabelle February 21, 2011, 11:45 am
Also I do not see the modify or delete comment options.
PFG-SCR February 21, 2011, 11:49 am
It’s in the comment box at the bottom, not by your actual comment itself.
PFG-SCR February 21, 2011, 11:51 am
And, you can only edit your most recent comment if it’s main-level comment, (not a reply). So, if you don’t see the “Edit most recent comment” in the upper right hand corner of the comment box, you don’t have that option since your most recent comment wasn’t a main-level one.
Uyzie February 21, 2011, 9:49 pm
Oh bummer! I always seem to find a typo or error right after I hit submit– and most of my comments are usually replies. 🙁
Maybe later on, Wendy and LK7889 (or some other kind soul) can add the ability to edit replies as well.
_jsw_ February 21, 2011, 11:25 am
Fantastic work, LK7889! It’s really nice to have the banner link, and the most-recent-comment editing feature covers the overwhelming majority of my editing needs as-is.
Edit: I just modified this comment (twice) in order to check out the feature. Coolness – it really couldn’t be easier to use. Note, though, that you might need to refresh the page to see the change.
Edit 2: It doesn’t _seem_ to find replies, only main-level comments. Just a heads up.
Uyzie February 21, 2011, 11:39 am
This is great news! I just caught myself using an unnecessary apostrophe in my last comment, and it’s been embarrassing the heck out of me to see it up there. 🙂
_jsw_ February 21, 2011, 12:08 pm
The HTML looks fine – specifically, the CSS implies that the image should replace the link. _However_, IE8 isn’t the best browser for following standards. Try Firefox. Or a Mac. 😉 But, seriously, look into Firefox. It should look just fine on that.
PFG-SCR February 21, 2011, 12:11 pm
Or just click the “Dear Wendy” link that those of us with IE8 see at the top left. 😉
_jsw_ February 21, 2011, 12:22 pm
Or click this one instead: http://store.apple.com. 😉
But, really, Firefox (http://www.mozilla.com) is superior in almost every way to IE except on sites that specifically need to run MS code. And it’s free – and so is Google Chrome (http://www.google.com/chrome). And neither browser will impose ugliness on the site that isn’t supposed to be there.
AnitaBath February 21, 2011, 12:32 pm
I use Firefox and it’s fine, but I just switched over to IE and it works fine there too.
MissDre February 21, 2011, 8:38 pm
Love the Mac plug 🙂 I’m a Mac lover myself!
Ally February 22, 2011, 12:15 pm
Chrome girl all the way here, it’s all looking great! I’m constantly having problems with IE8 on my site and others. Totally recommend switching 🙂
KR February 21, 2011, 12:13 pm
Just a note that as Chrome user I’m also seeing what people in IE8 are seeing.
_jsw_ February 21, 2011, 12:23 pm
Well, there goes my Chrome suggestion above. Oops.
_jsw_ February 21, 2011, 12:30 pm
Update: _none_ of the main browsers (Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Safari) show the link separately on a Mac. I’m unsure of why a Windows system would. If I figure it out, I’ll post.
PFG-SCR February 21, 2011, 12:33 pm
It’s actually different now – there is no “Dear Wendy” link, and the banner works for me now.
KR February 21, 2011, 12:33 pm
Update: Refreshed a few more times–works now!
LK7889 February 21, 2011, 12:38 pm
The reason it’s not showing on the browsers anymore is because I fixed it. LOL. Let me know if you guys see anything else funny.
But seriously, as a web developer I can say confidently that IE (all versions) are terrible. I’m with _jsw_ in that you should use Chrome or Firefox if at all possible. Both are free for download.
PFG-SCR February 21, 2011, 12:39 pm
That’s wonderful that you helped Wendy (and all of us really) out like that, LK7889!
LK7889 February 21, 2011, 12:44 pm
Not a problem. I love the site and was glad to help out. 🙂
Wendy February 21, 2011, 1:27 pm
Thanks! You’re awesome.
_jsw_ February 21, 2011, 12:38 pm
I applaud LK7889 for fixing things so fast. 🙂
Edit I posted this as she posted her reply, else I’d have replied beneath her comment.
sobriquet February 21, 2011, 2:39 pm
I’m still just happy that I can use html on this site! Italics!
_jsw_ February 21, 2011, 2:47 pm
I did not know that. Thank you!
sarolabelle February 21, 2011, 4:55 pm
Okay I see Modify but I don’t see Delete…..
Maracuya February 21, 2011, 6:33 pm
Yay, I’m so happy! You have NO idea how often I clicked back on the banner thinking, “Why isn’t it working?!?!” before I realized that it didn’t link back. And then I’d forget right away and do it again.
sarolabelle February 21, 2011, 11:04 pm
I have a request…if the banner was in a frame and stayed at the top it would be easier to go back to home after you read the comments. As a developer myself, we all hate html frames but maybe there is another way to do it that I don’t know about.
_jsw_ February 21, 2011, 11:13 pm
Most browsers have a key combo that takes you right to the top of the page, so wouldn’t that do the trick?
MissDre February 21, 2011, 11:18 pm
keyboard shortcuts: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Keyboard%20shortcuts
apparently ‘home’ takes you to the top of the page. anybody know what the equivalent of ‘home’ is on a mac?
_jsw_ February 21, 2011, 11:21 pm
Command-up (the key by the spacebar plus the up arrow). Command-down takes you to the bottom. Note that, if you’re entering text into a form (like these comments), that won’t work until you get out of the field.
Same shortcut works on Safari, Firefox, and Chrome.
MissDre February 21, 2011, 11:23 pm
awesome 🙂 thanks
