There was such an overwhelming response when I asked readers to introduce themselves on a weekend open thread that I decided to give you all a weekly column to do just that. I’ve always said this site wouldn’t be what it is without the engagement and participation of its readers and this column is the place to learn more about who you are what makes you tick. After the jump, let’s meet MissDre.
1. What’s your name, age and whereabouts?
My name on the site is MissDre and everyone calls me “Dre” in real life. I’m 25 and I’m proudly Canadian!
2. What’s your relationship status?
Happily coupled up. 🙂
3. How do you spend your weekdays?
I work for a software company as a Marketing Copywriter, and I also work as a Media Planner for my family-owned dance company (YaY KaliAndrews Dance Company!).
4. How do you spend your free time?
Reading, cuddling with my cats, cooking with my boyfriend, talking on the phone with my mom, hanging out at the dance studio, watching The Wire and Oz.
5. What are your top likes and dislikes:
Likes: Spicy food, good coffee, cheesecake, dresses and shoes! Oh and 90s hip hop music (yeah Biggie!).
Dislikes: Can’t stand pineapples and raisins (barf) and I pretty much hate all pop/hiphop music released after the year 2000 (except Adele, she’s awesome).
6. What’s the best relationship advice you’ve ever been given?
I was going through a very serious depression after my ex-boyfriend broke up with me. I reached out to an important male role model in my life (he was actually my grade school teacher, and has remained a mentor to me in many ways until this very day). He said to me:
“We meet people, we have relationships with them for a reason. We are there to learn from them and for them to learn from us. When the time comes that the learning is no longer happening the relationship will fade. Think about the things you have learned, sometimes they are things like what not to do or how to deal with conflict. If your boyfriend has decided to leave there is a reason.
D, you need to focus on yourself. You are wise when you say you are not happy with you right now and you will not be happy with anything until you come to terms with who you are and why you are such an amazing person. Forgiveness is key. When you do not forgive you carry all that resentment around with you to your own detriment. It is virtually impossible to move forward when you hold on to resentment. Sometimes it includes forgiving yourself.”
7. What’s the best relationship lesson you’ve ever learned?
To always focus on loving myself first. When you value someone else more than you value yourself, you lose all of your power! Sometimes it is still a struggle to convince myself that I am worthy of a man’s love (I think my biggest fear is that no man will every marry me). But the only way to stay strong is to believe in myself and focus on what makes ME happy.
8. Besides DearWendy.com, what are some of your favorite websites?
I have to rep my family-owned dance company! Some of the most amazing acrobatic dance videos you’ll ever see! Here’s our YouTube channel:

“When you value someone else more than you value yourself, you lose all of your power!”
Those are wise words. Wendy wouldn’t have nearly so many letters to answer if more people understood this.
Eljay October 18, 2011, 1:03 pm
Hey Hey MissDre! So nice to “meet” you! And I’ll try to forgive you for the pineapple & raisin comment. 🙂
MissDre October 18, 2011, 1:13 pm
I know, I’m in the minority aren’t I?
Eljay October 18, 2011, 1:24 pm
Startin’ to look that way. It’s ok tho, we still heart you. 🙂
JK October 18, 2011, 1:29 pm
I´m with you… I like pineapple flavoured things, and grapes, but HATE pineapple and raisins.
Kristen October 19, 2011, 10:33 am
I despise both pineapple and raisins too.
Also olives and capers, haha.
MissDre October 19, 2011, 11:30 am
LoL that’s funny cuz I LOVE olives and capers. Especially olives stuffed with garlic or goat cheese.
Budj October 18, 2011, 1:08 pm
I enjoy Pineapples. I will still like you though.
Totes agree about pop-music after 2000.
honeybeenicki October 18, 2011, 1:10 pm
I love the video! I am a huge fan of acrobatic dance and that was awesome. 🙂 And, like Eljay above, I suppose I’ll forgive you for the hatred for pineapple and raisins.
MissDre October 18, 2011, 1:12 pm

6napkinburger October 18, 2011, 1:17 pm
Oh my, best time waster ever, especially if you aren’t in the market to buy your own: http://shitthatsirisays.tumblr.com/
Sorry, I know its off-topic but its awesome.
Which kind of raisins? Because if its yellow raisins, i’m with you. If its dark raisin’s, you’re just nuts. Unless they’re in things. If they’re in cakes and stuff, then I’m with you.
bagge72 October 18, 2011, 1:43 pm
I’m just saying… I like Canda even more now!
TheOtherMe October 18, 2011, 1:49 pm
C A N A D A ……. you’re forgiven though…<3
bagge72 October 18, 2011, 2:05 pm
haha sorry!Sometimes I type to quick, and have come to rely on spell check to much to fix that for me! Though I did have ONE bad experience with a bartender in Montreal.
thyme October 18, 2011, 1:48 pm
MissDre, what is your ethnic background? You look very different than you did in my head. For some reason I always pictured you black, which now obviously isn’t the case. 🙂
MissDre October 18, 2011, 2:04 pm
My mother is German Mennonite, although her family came from Ukraine. She’s very dark with olive skin and dark hair. My dad is Scottish. I love African/Caribbean food and music, and I’m in an interracial relationship (both things I’ve mentioned on here before) so maybe that’s why you thought I was black.
WatersEdge October 18, 2011, 8:12 pm
I thought you were black too… I have no idea why!
katie October 18, 2011, 8:38 pm
i have to say, I think MissDre looks exactly like I pictured her! lol
TaraMonster October 18, 2011, 12:48 pm
I love the advice your mentor gave you!!
Addie Pray October 18, 2011, 2:20 pm
Nice to meet you, MissDre!
Jessica October 18, 2011, 2:24 pm
MissDre, you’re foxy!
silver_dragon_girl October 18, 2011, 2:44 pm
I love the dress you’re wearing in that picture!!! Nice to “meet” you, MissDre 🙂
I do love pineapple, but I hate raisins. If anyone’s keeping track 😛
Addie Pray October 18, 2011, 2:53 pm
I like cold raisins (e.g., raisins in a salad) but not warm ones (e.g., in oatmeal or in oatmeal cookies). For anyone keeping track. 😉
TheOtherMe October 18, 2011, 3:24 pm
I’m going to start a spreadsheet 😀
bagge72 October 18, 2011, 4:01 pm
I like them both!except I only like Pineapple cold, raisins I can go both ways!
Eljay October 18, 2011, 4:10 pm
Hahaaha! Fascinating! I’d be interested to see the statistics on this one!
cdubs October 18, 2011, 7:33 pm
I LOVE pineapple, but I hate raisins. A lot. Hot or cold. Dried fruit in general just grosses me out 🙂
ChicagoWoman October 18, 2011, 11:03 pm
Agreed…I can’t do dried food. And pineapple is also absolutely amazing!
Christina October 19, 2011, 10:55 am
I love raisins and I love fresh or even cooked pineapple like on an upside down cake. I also think pineapple should be on more pizzas than they find their way onto. I don’t like the taste or smell of fake pineapple flavoring from rum to yogurt to scented handsoap though.
It’s nice to meet you MissDre after knowing you a little from comments. Fried plantains rock and so does your sassy green dress!
Anna October 18, 2011, 3:21 pm
Nice to meet you MissDre! I share your fear of never finding a man who will marry me. The advise about always loving yourself first is definitely right on. I’ve always struggled with that too. And btw you are very pretty!
MissDre October 18, 2011, 3:29 pm
Awww thank you 🙂
mcj2011 October 18, 2011, 3:48 pm
Hello MissDre..nice to meet ya!
Skyblossom October 18, 2011, 5:16 pm
It’s a pleasure to meet you!!!
I think we’ve all hit points where we thought we might not ever marry but almost everyone I know meets the right one sooner or later and gets married. The bonus for getting married later is that you’re more likely to have a lasting marriage so you’re doing fine and maybe better than those who are already settled.
neuroticbeagle October 18, 2011, 7:47 pm
I don’t like pineapples or raisins either.
Foots October 18, 2011, 9:58 pm
Cool! Ur very pretty, btw 🙂
MissDre October 19, 2011, 11:29 am
Thank you! *blush*
scattol October 18, 2011, 11:34 pm
Ah, from this picture I see you are living in the secret tropical province of Canada. I envy you your luck!
MissDre October 19, 2011, 11:28 am

willgirl October 19, 2011, 10:41 am
Hooray for Canada! Good to see all the fellow Canadians on the board. 🙂 And it’s very nice to meet you Miss Dre!
