Dear Wendy readers are some of the most intelligent, stylish, super cool people around (it’s a proven fact), so it’s a no-brainer to feature some of their favorite products. Many of the recommended products happen to be affiliate products, which means I’ll receive a commission on any click-throughs or purchases you make through the affiliate links. As always, I appreciate your support! Today’s recommendations come from Call-me-Hobo who lives 30 minutes south of Nashville, tucked behind a cornfield and in front of a hayfield. She just got a job relevant to her degree, and she’s enjoying having a steady paycheck for the first time in her life. She enjoys all manners of nerdy things and a good glass of wine. She and her husband just celebrated their first wedding anniversary, and they are struggling to keep their 70 year-old house from falling apart. Here are some things she loves and you might, too:
Cherry Bombs Candy
These are homemade by the Olive and Sinclair Chocolate Co. in Nashville — the only bean-to-bar candy company in the Southeast. You know the cherry cordials your aunt always gets you at Christmas-time? These are like those…BUT A MILLION TIMES BETTER. They pickle the maraschino cherry before they coat it in dark chocolate; it’s the perfect combination of tart and sweet. (Also, PS – they taste amazing with red wine).
Modcloth Botanical Breakfast Dress
I love this dress so much that I currently own two. Yep, it’s so amazing that I bought a spare. It’s a little on the lighter side (not so great for winter), but it has the amazing ability to be dressed up or down with relative ease. Perfect for when you want to look nice but really don’t want to put in the effort.
Otterbox Card Holder
I just acquired my first smartphone, which I love (THANKS, ADULTHOOD). You know what I don’t love? Carrying a purse all the damn time. It’s a hassle. This case, which has all the strength and dependability of the Otterbox brand, has a handy-dandy little slide function which is a perfect compartment for your I.D. and a debit/credit card. I can fit three cards in my case, which is perfect for going out and about. It’s especially convenient when I’m out walking/working out because I don’t have to worry about locking up my belongings.
Bitch Planet Vol. 1
Do you like dystopian futures and feminism? Then do I have the graphic novel for YOU. Bitch Planet is set in a future where “non-compliant” women are sent to an off-world prison. Kelly Sue DeConnick creates a world that feels like a bad-ass femsploitation movie. Tons of POC and queer characters of all body types. It’s awesome.
Infinity Scarves
It’s fall! That means the basic white girl in me needs a million chunky infinity scarves. This is one of my essentials for fall, and it comes in whatever color matches your favorite basic white girl coffee from Starbucks. Plus it’s only $17.00!
Arrington Vineyards Antebellum Wine 2013
I love wine, and my husband loves whiskey. Behold – a wine that is both! This is another TN-locality product — a wine that is aged in Jack Daniel’s barrels and has the richness of a red wine with the smokey flavor of a whiskey. Unfortunately, Arrington doesn’t ship outside the continental US, and can only ship to 33 of the 50 states. Don’t worry, W, it ships to NY! [Yay!].
Thanks so much, call-me-hobo. I want all of these things.

Love that boutique! Not that I need another scarf 🙂 I think I might send chocolates to one of my friends too. Although, the wine is tempting especially since the friend I want to send it to conveniently lives in one of the 33 covered states, haha.

That dress is so cute! Did you get it in different patterns?? I also like the scarf!
Also that candy looks delicious… hint hint… 😛
call-me-hobo October 15, 2015, 12:56 pm
I also have a mint green version of it with a striped skirt, and Modcloth just added a 3/4 length sleeve version that’s a beautiful wine color that I might get next payday…
You should come back to Nashville and try out all the delicious flavors… hint hint 😉

I can vouch that visiting call-me-hobo is AWESOME! Just prepare to gain 20 lbs because you keep eating so many delicious things (minus the deep fried twinkie…. that was just terrible)
call-me-hobo October 15, 2015, 1:44 pm
Accept your southern roots. You love deep fried twinkies, Lady. YOU LOVE THEM BECAUSE YOU LOVE AMERICA. *Bald eagle screeches in the background*
LadyinPurpleNotRed October 15, 2015, 1:46 pm
1. I have no southern roots. There is no southern blood in me. NEW ENGLAND WASP FOR LIFE!
2. Clearly I don’t love America.
3. I’d rather hear a puppy barking in the background.

Oh totally! I’ve visited her as well! (And she visited me!) So many good things to eat, it was so hard to decide! (you’d have to roll me away if I stay too long… don’t get me started on the amazingness that is sweet tea…)

So, I definitely am obsessed with that dress. Next pay period or Christmas, it’s mine!
Also, Wendy, I think it would be kinda fun if we had a thread where all the girls and guys on this site and contribute one “pick” of theirs and we can make a post out of it. Would that be too long? (Or don’t, because I’ll want to buy ALL THE THINGS)

I just heard about bitch planet on NPR!

Kelly Sue DeConnick is the BOMB. I met her at Dragon*Con this year- she was on a panel about race, gender and sexuality in comic books, and she was so wonderful, and stayed behind so people could talk to her and get pictures. If you end up liking it, definitely check out her husband, Matt Fraction. His newest one is called SEX CRIMINALS, and they’re making it into a TV show. It’s about two people who realize they can stop time whenever they have sex…and how they use that power to rob a bank.
Don’t read it at work, though. It’s very NSFW. Lots o’ dongs.

This reminds me… we should have a Nashville meetup. We keep saying that and it keeps never happening, but we need a Nashville meetup.
Loo October 16, 2015, 8:44 am
I will be in Nashville over Christmas! If the timing lines up I would definitely attend.
Just Max October 15, 2015, 2:14 pm
I read “cherry bombs candy” and immediately pulled my credit card out to place an order. Alas, they don’t deliver outside of the 48… 🙁
Moneypenny October 15, 2015, 2:37 pm
Boo! Could you have someone else order it and then mail it to you? Where there’s a will there’s a way!!
Anonymous October 15, 2015, 4:16 pm
Yeah, just have to find the one relative/friend that won’t eat the chocolate first! :-p
Just Max October 15, 2015, 8:00 pm
I know!
So far, everyone on my go-to list of people is out; they’d totally eat the chocolate and tell me how good it was. ;-P
Addie Pray October 15, 2015, 6:04 pm
Call me hobo is the cutest and sweetest dearwendier of them all! She helped me change a flat tire once. True story!
call-me-hobo October 15, 2015, 8:15 pm
Hmmmm- I think the title of cutest and sweetest DWer now goes to Baby Pray. It’s not even a close contest.
bittergaymark October 15, 2015, 10:56 pm
Those Cherries? Sound… Dangerous! Very, very dangerous… As in… Addictive!
keyblade October 16, 2015, 8:51 am
They look amazing. I’m too scared to buy them..
TaraMonster October 16, 2015, 9:24 am
I want ALL these things. I will start with the dress and the chocolate, though!
