Reader Recs: GatorGirl Shares Her Faves

FrankDear Wendy readers are some of the most intelligent, stylish, super cool people around (it’s a proven fact), so, when a commenter suggested I create a regular feature for them to recommend some of their favorite products, it was a no-brainer and Reader Recs was born. Today’s recommendations come from GatorGirl, who is 28, newly-ish married, and living in north-central Florida. She loves to cook and do DIY projects, is a huge craft beer fan, and is an avid football fan (Go Eagles!). Fun fact: Her favorite food is pickles! And that’s a picture of her cat over in the corner.

41YPWPBRRNL._SY300_Cuisinart CRC Rice Cooker
One of my favorite kitchen gadgets. This little guy steams veggies and fish, in addition to making killer rice/oatmeal/quinoa. We use ours about twice a week!

41etAXA2YxL._SY300_Kuhn Rikon Colori Art Chef’s and Paring Knife
Best knives ever. Plus, polka dots!

mcYNarVFoMMLdjsf8MWFCggRainbow Double Layer Flip Flops
Hands down the best flip flops ever. I wear mine daily, and it takes about three years before they need to be replaced. Plus, the leather is so pretty!

pPETNA-5156008_main_enhToyShoppe® Feather Teaser Cat Toy
After buying countless cat toys, I’ve finally found one our cat will play with. It’s great for getting kitty up and moving!

312mom3QMzL._AA300_Chi Ceramic 1 Inch Flat Iron
I’ve owned my Chi for over 5 years, and it still works like it’s brand new. The initial price is a little high, but it will last forever! The one-inch size is very versatile–good for long or short hair and to straighten or curl.

Thanks, GatorGirl!

If you have some products you’d like to recommend to the DW audience, shoot me an email at [email protected] with links to five recommendations. (Write “reader recs” in the subject line please). Your recommendations can be from any store or website, but they need to be accessible online — and I would love it if at least two items could be found on Amazon where I am an affiliate. If your list is a good fit for the site, I’ll ask you to write a brief description of each item/ explain what you love so much about it.

I was just telling my friend yesterday how I probably should get a rice cooker… Maybe it’s fate?

I wasn’t sure I would use it, but we use ours weekly if not more. Plus once we both have babies, you can use it to steam veggies to make home made baby food!

We all love my mom’s rice cooker. Plus they always cook rice perfectly, no guesswork. My fiance always screws around with the rice and lifts the lid and tries to stir it. UGH.

I keep fucking up rice! I really think I need it. My birthday is next month, maybe I’ll ask Dave to get that for me.

Yeh it’s so easy, you pour in the water and the rice like the thing tells you and then you don’t touch it, and presto 20 mins later you have perfect rice.

I think the type of rice you buy really makes a difference on how easy it is to cook. Jasmine rice is what I buy and I’ve never screwed it up. I just put it in with water, wait for it to boil and then turn it down to low for 20 mins.

Oh I have another one. Caprese Cibatta sandwiches from Wawa. AMAZING. And it’s super hard to find a meatless sandwich option.

It’s super amazing if you can toast the bread with the mozzarella on it. And only use half of the pesto. I’ve had it two days in a row for lunch.

I’m definitely going to pick up this sandwich over the weekend. Thanks for the rec!

UGH, I’ve been in the office the last two weeks, rather than home. It blows. I leave Saturday!! (Also it is so cold up here!)

So jealous! Now, I must visit my folks, go to their nearest Wawa, and get a caprese cibatta sandwich. Too bad we’re in the months I don’t go to Florida (May-September).

That sounds awesome, when did they start carrying that?! I’m going to have to get one in a couple weeks when I’m up north. I’m already trying to figure out how many time I’m having to go there to get everything I want, which basically means I’m going to have to go for every meal that week. I miss Wawa so much.

Must second the knives, they are the best. And I’ve been thinking of upgrading my rice cooker. Maybe this is the one.

I have that same rice cooker. We got it as a wedding gift 7 years ago and use it a couple of times a week for one thing or another. It’s magnificent!

I can vouche for those knives! They come in lots of other fun colors too. I have a lime green one, a leopard print one, and a jungle/forest leaves kind of print. For the average person, they’re great knives. GG got me hooked last year.

I’m also on the rainbow train too, but I like the thin straps instead.

And one of my cats exclusively plays with toys like the one GG suggested, so I need to order that. GG, are we the same person?

I wear the thin straps too! I must have sent Wendy the wrong link!
      .
I have like 10 (actually, not even figuratively) of the Kuhn Rikon knives. I should be a spokes person because I tell everyone about them. My MIL is even convinced now!
      .
      and yes we are twins.

It looks like the link is for the thin straps! It’s just the picture that shows the thicker ones. I’m a born and raised Californian and I have never owned Rainbows. Maybe it’s time!
