Dear Wendy readers are some of the most intelligent, stylish, super cool people around (it’s a proven fact), so, when a commenter suggested I create a regular feature for them to recommend some of their favorite products, it was a no-brainer and Reader Recs was born. Today’s recommendations come from Rickipedia, who lives with her fella, “the Comedian,” in Pittsburgh, along with a noisy little Finch. To unwind from her insane job, she makes quilts, drinks wine, and reads a lot about the salaciousness of Elizabethan England and the history of the Papacy. She sings in a garage band, has officiated a bunch of her friends’ weddings, and she likes booze, comedy, and yoga. Fall is her favorite season and she’s happy it’s here. Because for some reason she didn’t want a picture of her splashed on a random website, she is sharing instead this photo of some giraffes she got to pet and feed over the summer. Keep reading for some of her favorite recommendations.
Metrokane 6121 Rabbit Wine/Beverage Bottle Stoppers, Set of 4 (1-Pack)
SW PA has tons of fall wine festivals and I always take some of these with me so that, if I open a bottle or two at the winery and don’t finish it [wait, what? Don’t finish the bottle? How is this possible?], it’s easy to keep it good and bring it home (same for BYOB restaurants). I’ve saved myself many a fridge cleanup with these (the bottles don’t leak when they lay on their side), it’s way easier than trying to stuff the cork back in the bottle, they’re super cheap, and I have a bunch of colors. Also, they wash up really fast, and they don’t seem to get discolored by the reds. (They also work really well for liquor if your boyfriend happens to lose the lid to a bottle.)
Marzetti Light Caramel Dip
For apple snackin’, with less fat! I love caramel apple slices, and I actually prefer the Light to the Regular since it’s less buttery tasting and it’s so good for a snack after dinner, midday, whenever. In the fridge it lasts for about a month after it’s opened, so the sweets are always available!
Fownes Women’s Cashmere-Lined Lambskin Leather Gloves
Hugs for your hands! These gloves, oh my. I bought them last winter. So warm. So soft. SO many colors! I actually ended up buying them for all of my lady friends and family for Christmas. They don’t stretch and get bulgy at the knuckles like other leather gloves I’ve had, and the quality is definitely there, without Macy’s prices [plus, they’re over 40% off on Amazon!]. I’m pretty sure that I need the red ones for this winter.
Dead Sea Salt Scrub & Coconut Oil 23.98 Oz
No more itchy winter skin! I originally got this at TJ Maxx, just to try it, but I am so sold — my face has never looked better than before I used this. The salt is really fine, so it doesn’t hurt when you scrub, and the oil leaves my skin so soft and not greasy. I also use it on my legs after I shave, and it moisturizes so well that I don’t get razor burn or need lotion after I shower. In the winter it’s my go-to product to stop my skin from getting dry and itchy.
The Madness of a Seduced Woman
This Book…Amazing. You know that Facebook thing where you list the books that have stayed with you? This is mine. I read it probably, 11, 12 years ago? It’s always stuck with me. I rarely read fiction, but I bought this at a used book store when I was living in the middle of nowhere. The main character, Agnes with her anxiety, fixation, and insecurity really resonated with me. It changed 20-something me. I don’t know how else to articulate this, but, if you want a good winter read, this is the book. It’s powerful, sometimes dark, beautiful and emotional.
Thanks, Rickipedia! I think I might get everything on your list.
If you have some products you’d like to recommend to the DW audience, shoot me an email at [email protected] with links to five recommendations. (Write “reader recs” in the subject line, please). Your recommendations can be from any store or website, but they need to be accessible online — and I would love it if at least two items could be found on Amazon where I am an affiliate. If your list is a good fit for the site, I’ll ask you to write a brief description of each item/explain what you love so much about it.
