Reader Recs: SeaOtter’s Picks

Screen Shot 2016-07-06 at 12.55.57 PMDear Wendy readers are some of the most intelligent, stylish, super-cool people around (it’s a proven fact), so it’s a no-brainer to feature some of their favorite products. Many of the recommended products happen to be affiliate products, which means I’ll receive a commission on any click-throughs or purchases you make through the affiliate links. As always, I appreciate your support! Today’s recommendations come from SeaOtter, who is a school social worker and lives in Northern California with her hunky geek husband and two dogs. She has been described by multiple old men as a “firecracker,” which she guesses is a compliment. She loves books, scuba diving, the late great David Bowie, Crossfit, and German apple pancakes. She is currently contemplating getting her first tattoo. Here are some of the things she’s loving right now and thinks you should check out:

Unsure how these bra top dresses would work for larger-chested ladies, but these are my summer uniform. They are insanely comfortable but also really cute and flattering. They’re so comfortable it’s like getting to wear pajamas out of the house, but stylish, stealth pajamas that can be worn to work or out to dinner with no social judgment.

This curl cream smells like summer and leaves my curly/wavy hair soft and frizzless. It’s a little pricey, but lasts a long time and doesn’t dry out my hair like some of their gels do.

Probably the least sexy item on this list, but this stuff is a lifesaver for pet owners. I adopted a shelter dog half a year ago and she was super difficult to potty train. She peed in the same spot (on the rug, not the easily cleanable wood floor) for weeks, until I wised up and started using Nature’s Miracle on pee spots. Now she’s house trained! Hooray!

I ordered a coffee table, TV console, and side table from this Etsy seller who makes reclaimed wood furniture. Their pieces are affordable for the quality and look great. You do have to put the legs on, but they’re pretty easy to assemble. (They might not be great for folks with babies, as they have pointy corners.)

My husband loves these socks. They’re supposedly for hiking but he uses them as everyday socks. Also, the first review mentions a soldier wearing them in Afghanistan, so they must be hardcore.

Thanks, SeaOtter!

If you have some products you’d like to recommend to the DW audience, shoot me an email at wendy@dearwendy.com with links to five recommendations. (Write “reader recs” in the subject line, please.) Your recommendations can be from any store or website, but they need to be accessible online. If your list is a good fit for the site, I’ll ask you to write a brief description of each item/explain what you love so much about it.

I absolutely love the etsy shop that you linked! I’m currently looking for a coffee table, and all of the listings are super cute.

Also- I just got my first tattoo about 6 months ago- DO IT. I absolutely love mine, and I can’t wait to get the next one (I think I’m hooked). Addie Pray will comment to say not to get one, but don’t listen to her BECAUSE YOU’RE NOT MY REAL MOM ADDIE AND TATTOOS ARE COOL 😉

Remember that one time you didn’t listen to me and obviously regretted it?

Agree that the Etsy stuff is super nice!

I’m not saying I’m on AP’s “side” here… but I have a tattoo that I very much regret (and one I don’t) and will get removed sooner or later. I got it, like, the minute, I was legal so that is a factor.

It’s just good to put a lot of thought into it before taking the plunge. Obvs.

So you agree, all tattoos suck? I know!

Haha… The tattoo I have that I don’t regret is very small and inconspicuous, so I’m closer to your view than call-me-hobo’s “tattoos are cool.” 🙂

One really important thing about tattoos is making sure the artist is really good. I have a few tattoos gotten at various points in my life (like right when I turned 18) and two are shitty while one is awesome. The difference is that the first two combined cost maybe 1/4 the price of the third one (which is much simpler). High price and being booked out for months can be a good first indicator of a good artist, but definitely see if you like their style and look at lots of their past work. A good artist will stop you from doing something super crappy. It’s really an investment and a good tattoo is expensive.
Damn it, now I need to start saving up money to get my old tattoos fixed or covered up since they are sucky. At least I have one I love!

JUST SAY NO TO TATTOOS! No offense but…. all tattoos are ugly. There, I said it. Yes, even yours, and yours, and yes, yours, too. (I know, so mean of me!!)

SO VICIOUS! What are you going to do when baby boy comes home with a tattoo during his rebellious phase? He might even get a face tattoo like Mike Tyson!

That thing better say “I LOVE MOM”

      • Addie Pray July 7, 2016, 2:05 pm

Hmm, maybe there’s ONE tattoo I won’t mind.

      • Addie Pray July 7, 2016, 2:04 pm

First of all, my baby boy would never get or want a tattoo, duh. And while we are at it, he would never date a girl I don’t like, vote Republican, or drive a motorcycle. He also won’t go sky-diving, play football, do drugs, shoot or hold a gun, and he sure as shit won’t not wear his seat belt.

Well, just tell yourself “but I got these tats before I received the anti-tattoo testimony from Addie.” Addie is not an unreasonable or unforgiving Addie.

Aw, crud. Am I going to have to get my brand new AddyPray4Lyfe tattoo removed already?!
