Dear Wendy readers are some of the most intelligent, stylish, super cool people around (it’s a proven fact), so it’s a no-brainer to feature some of their favorite products. Many of the recommended products happen to be affiliate products, which means I’ll receive a commission on any click-throughs or purchases you make through the affiliate links. As always, I appreciate your support! Today’s recommendations comes from Materials Girl, who originally hails from Minneapolis but has lived in Chicago for over a decade. A former Edgewater/Andersonville resident, she now resides with her almost-husband in the South Loop and is getting married tomorrow (!!) (6/10) at City Hall in San Fran! She’s an avid runner and traveler who loves to cook and bake and who has the best banana bread recipe ever (as confirmed by many eager testers). For work, she is the technical sales guru-liason-manager get-things-done person. Check out her recommendations below:
I know it seems weird to be putting oil on your face, but, seriously, Kiehls Midnight Recovery is amazing stuff and it smells so relaxing. It’s a great part of my night-time routine and is especially helpful in the winter months when the dry air just ruins my skin. In the summer I will wear it alone, whereas in the winter I’ll put a moisturizer on top. My dermatologist also recommended using products with hyaluronic acid to increase the moisture in my skin, so I look for that as well.
So there are cheap dry shampoos and then there’s Living Proof. There’s a reason Jennifer Aniston (…with the good hair) is their spokesmodel, and this stuff is serious. I had received a travel-sized bottle in my Birchbox and it’s been my favorite so far (although I did like Amika too).
I’m a runner and a fairly serious one. I have to agree with K that the UnderArmour shirt is a go-to [I have become a fan, too! – Wendy], but the shorts I love are the Nike Rival because the waist band is so flattering and it’s not tight. It comes in several different lengths depending on what you’re comfortable with (2,3 and 4″) and its much more updated than those ubiquitous tempo shorts that everyone wore for the past decade. Also, believe it or not, my FAVORITE sports bra for the C and unders, as well as my favorite capris, both come from Victoria’s Secret. The waist on the capris is super flattering — it makes you look really skinny and you can hold AN IPHONE IN THE WAIST POCKET and there is no jiggle. I’m dead serious. I did this on runs all winter long, and I normally HATE carrying a phone with me. PLUS, POCKETS, PEOPLE. FOR SNACKS.
SAFETY IS IMPORTANT! These won’t fall off because they’re light and magnetic.
My nails are normally peeling or generally just not nice, so I’ve been using Orly Defense and it’s been a great way to grow out a lot of that splitting and peeling.
I got RadioStar, who I’m marrying tomorrow, this vinyl subscription for his birthday back in March. For Christmas a few years ago, I got him a record player (okay I’ll be honest, I knew that it would be for me too), so a great way to increase his (our) record collection, get cool artwork and drink recipes, and expand our listening selection was with this subscription service.
Thanks, MG, and best wishes for a long and happy marriage to RadioStar!
