The husband and I keep separate finances. He makes quite a bit more than me. Not quite double. We both have a 401k. Since he’s a lot better with money and with planning (he even does his parent’s finances), I send him a set amount each month. That goes to our mortgage / savings / big trips / bills. I take care of most of the grocery shopping for the month, unless he’s out and picks something up. We don’t nickel and dime each other.

I check in with him every few months to make sure we’re in good shape and ask if I need to contribute more or whatnot.
