Snow Day Open Thread!

Hi, are you one of the estimated 70 million getting hit by the big N’oreaster snowstorm this morning? We are! Drew spent the night in a hotel near work last night and I’m on my own with the kids today. School was canceled, but get this – Jackson takes a theater class after school and they’re holding a snow day camp today for a few hours, and being the wise person I am and clearly remembering how the snow day we had last month made us all crazy, I signed Jackson up. Now, I just have to get him there and back…

And then, we had dinner plans at our friends’ place this evening where my friend, Lesley, a chef (and winner of Chopped) is cooking Bo Ssam for us and some mutual friends who are visiting from out of town. They’re only two blocks away, so I figure we can pull the kids in the sled (hopefully Drew will make it home by dinner and can help), which I am happy to do for a plate of pork and good company. Between now and then, I’ll be doing my best to keep these kids entertained and out of trouble, and also wine. Have a fun snow day!

Chicago got hit pretty good. The morning commute was horrible, but my faith in humanity was restored when I first saw someone give a homeless man money on the el, and second saw a man handing out coffee and food from Dunkin Donuts to homeless people on the street.

Snow is JUST starting to pick up here north of Boston. My husband, son and I are all home, though I have to work…boooooo!

We did have a nice morning before baby’s morning nap though – including climbing the stairs for the first time AND demonstration of good listening skills – for a nine month old 🙂

RadioStar left for work at 520 this morning.. no snow.
I went to the gym at 615: SNOW!

Got on the red line, no problems. Then 50 minutes… FIFTY for the bus to show up. Nothing was plowed on the southside, let’s just say that.

The fiance left my apartment at 6:50 and didn’t get in til quarter after 8. That’s with using the 152 then 135. He warned me and I hopped on the Red Line instead of doing the same about 30 min later. We got in at the same time….

Major city fail today. They are usually much better at clearing the roads.

I’m also in Chicago and didn’t feel up to a 10-15 minute walk to the red line in the snow, so I opted for the bus, which stops half a block from my apartment. It arrived quickly, but the drive was SO slow. I arrived at work about 30 minutes later than anticipated.

Hi, Chicago friends. Yesterday of all days I had two doctor’s appointments scheduled, one for me and one for my now 18 month old! So I had to walk him to daycare, then walk to Streeterville for my appointment, then hop a bus to work, then walk to fetch the baby but not before picking up pizza for only $3.14 (pi day) and then taking the bus his appointment and then walking back. And I wore my regular tennis shoes so my feet were soaked. But that $3.14 pizza was delicious. What are the odds that the one day I have all that to do is the day it snows, after months of nothing. In other news, I’ll be in NYC next week. My first night away from the baby. I’m sad but looking forward to what will be my first night of sleeping through the night in a couple of years! I’m hoping, anyway.

Well over here in Colorado Springs…it’s already 50 degrees and expected to be 70 or better for most of the week. Unseasonably warm. And we didn’t really get much of a winter. Some snow but not a lot. I miss the snow! But I’m actually glad we aren’t getting any right now because my sister and nephews are coming up from Arkansas Saturday. I’m so excited they are coming up! Lots to plan 🙂

Well, I’m at work today in DC – not the snowstorm we were hoping for, but it’s pretty nasty outside and I can’t imagine it’d be safe to drive in this. I walk to work, so the 3 hour delay for the Federal workers was nice but ultimately unnecessary for me. My office is pretty empty, I’m guessing a lot of unscheduled telework or days off…

We are in Montana and it’s just raining heavily. I’m glad!! We’ve been practically snowed in since November. This winter has been intense.

. . . and it’s in the low 90’s here in SoCal. Unseasonably warm for mid-March!! I’m on the verge of turning on my AC when I get home tonight. Ugh! Good luck and stay safe y’all in the east coast.

I remember growing up in NY we often had spring snow storms!

I miss it! Can’t wait to play in the snow again!
