Hey, everyone! I thought a better get a quick post up if only to move the “Weekend Open Thread” down and explain my absence. All’s well — I’m just taking some summer hours this week. It’s been a bit of a juggling act, squeezing in time to work with Jackson out of school, visiting family last week, hosting out-of-town friends the last few days, and our part-time nanny on vacation. So rather than make myself crazy trying to do everything, I decided to slow down, enjoy my time with the people I love, let some laundry pile up, and let DW go without being updated for a few days. I actually have about an hour to myself at the moment before I have to wake up Joanie from a nap and go walk a mile (and back) to pick up Jackson from camp, but instead of using the time to write a column, I’m going to read a book for a little bit and then just lie on my bed and stare out the window and enjoy the power of air conditioning. I hope you understand! I’ll be back on Thursday with a new column and some book recommendations. In the mean time, there’s always plenty of drama in the forums.

Good for you! As moms, wives, and professionals, we don’t don’t take care of ourselves! Enjoy!

Moscow Mules Rule! I did the same thing the night with a friend and Mai Tais!! Sometimes… you gotta just take a break. You deserve it, Wendy!
.
So… Work Day 8 (first two deadlines made!) into my first professional screenwriting gig. Still getting used to so much! Working from home is a dream! And it’s crazy writing pages multiple people read only minutes after I send them in! It’s crazy getting paid!
.
Love my writing partner. Smart! Funny! Full of great ideas! And another good writer to boot!
.
Everything is going so well. It’s scary! Uh, yeah… So NOT used to this!! Making for a pretty amazing summer though.

Congrats, Mark! It’s great to hear you sound so happy!
Bittergaymark July 19, 2017, 12:31 pm
Yes! Thank You!! That’s ALL still so very foreign to me! So much of my career thus far has often simply been a real headache!
.
Liking what I do?
.
WHAT?! People actually really get to experience this?!
.
😉

Uh oh, are you gonna have to change your name to Happy Gay Mark?
Bittergaymark July 19, 2017, 7:25 pm
formerlybittergaymark is more interesting, I think.
Ange July 19, 2017, 8:01 pm
Yeah! A name change might be in order

FBGM – I’m not sure about that. I think you can find something unpleasant to be bitter about. But you know bitter from a happier place. Congrats on the gig. Looking forward to seeing the results.

Late to the game, but congrats! Do we know what you’re writing? Is it a pilot? Has it been picked up? Will you tell us eventually?
Moneypenny July 19, 2017, 3:49 pm
Aw, Mark, you sound so happy! That’s so great that things are going well!
Skyblossom July 20, 2017, 6:31 am
Great job Mark!!! Congratulations. You didn’t give up and now you’ve got something great going!
I’m happy for you. It is always fun to see someone getting to do a job they love.

Yes, please tell us eventually what you’re working on!
Janelle July 19, 2017, 2:25 pm
Congrats BGM! I always longed to write but never can sit down and make it happen. That’s a huge accomplishment!

A break for you, Wendy, is well deserved!
Positive news for me- I took an exam last week and I found out I passed! I decided that I will relax the rest of the summer and hit the books again for the next one in September.

My current project is ending soon and I’ll take a little training and then I’m FORCED (forced!) to take vacation because it’s the end of the fiscal year and I’ve got over 300 hours of PTO banked and can only carry over 240 in to the new year. I thought about taking a trip but I went to Japan and Switzerland in June for work and haven’t been home in NYC more than 4 days in a row since then.
My plans so far are :
Do nothing
Watch TV
Read books
Go to a coffee shop and read books
Go to the park and read books
Go to the movies in the middle of the day with the retirees
Watch more TV
Hit a few museums – I’m just walking up to the buildings and punching them, not going inside
Shop and wander
Nap

Oh my gosh, that sounds lovely!
Dear Wendy July 20, 2017, 9:19 am
Your plans sound great! Hopefully this heat breaks a little and you can actually maybe enjoy being outside a little bit. Right now, it’s really brutal.
