Sunday Open Thread

Happy Sunday! How’s your weekend going? We took the kids to a party yesterday in a different neighborhood in Brooklyn with the idea that we’d head home as soon as Joanie was ready for a nap, but we were so close to Pier 6, we decided to be crazy and push our luck and skip the nap and guess what? All hell did not break loose! We ended up staying out all afternoon and the kids had a lot of fun and Drew and I did, too. I really enjoy Joanie’s monster naps on weekdays (they can last sometimes up to four hours!), which allow me to extend my work time, but they are pretty annoying on weekends when they get in the way of fun family days. That we were able to be out together all day yesterday with nary a horrible meltdown and that Joanie is not making us pay for it today (yet) is a great sign that we are upon a new chapter in our lives — one where we don’t have to be tethered to our apartment for a big chunk of every afternoon. The world is suddenly our oyster!

Another nice plus about yesterday is that I forgot my phone at home, and, for better or worse, I was completely present, not absentmindedly scrolling through Instagram or checking my email or texting friends throughout the afternoon. I’m going to start leaving my phone at home on purpose more often.

Hope you all are having equally lovely weekends!

P.S. Neiman Marcus Last Call is having a special Buy One Get One Free deal through the end of the day. I just ordered a summer dress and got another for free!

Just heard about the garbage truck wrecking in Brooklyn. Took out several cars and looks like the stairs of a brownstone. It doesn’t look like anyone was hurt…was that near you?
