Thanksgiving Open Thread

Happy (American) Thanksgiving! I hope you are celebrating however you enjoy celebrating best. I spent the morning in Midtown watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade (that’s Joanie and Me and Sponge Bob at the parade above). Now I’m enjoying an early glass of wine and a few minutes of internetting while Joanie and Drew nap and Jackson makes magic potion. I outsourced most of our meal this year on account of being overwhelmed with overseeing renovations and preparing for our move in a few days. (Our contractor says that if they hustle, about 75% of our place should be habitable by Thursday, when we have to be out of our apartment, so that’s good. Not ideal — not the way I envisioned it [having workmen around us for the first couple weeks we’re there] — but much better than being homeless and I am very thankful for that.) So, I outsourced most of our meal, but I made some pie and I’m about to finish cooking butternut squash soup and prep brussels sprouts for roasting.

Have a wonderful day, and thank you, thank you, thank you for spending some of your time here. It really means a lot. This site is almost seven years old — an eternity in web years — and I am very grateful for your loyalty that has allowed me to keep it going this long and to make a living doing something I love. More than that, I’m grateful for the community that continues to evolve and for all the support and camaraderie that has been shared here over the years. Thank you!!

I seriously had the best Thanksgiving meal of my life – in a restaurant! It was Harvest in Cambridge, MA. My mom thought she made reservations at Henrietta’s Table, because it also begins with an H, but it was Harvest, and it was amazing. I had the turkey with potato purée and stuffing and cranberry and Brussels sprouts, with chestnut ginger soup as the starter, and then pumpkin profiteroles. Now we’re in New York and just had more Thanksgiving food and pecan pie. We got a free upgrade to a deluxe room too, so the weekend is starting off right!
