Yeah, after getting stood up the first time, that would be IT barring (very few) certain circumstances. I’d be PI$$ED. Clearly he didn’t respect you or your time enough to let you know beforehand.

The reason I was going use online dating sites was from my past experiences with them. I met three guys whom I dated, one was long term, the other two I am now friends with. I felt I made better connections and the guys were more upfront about what they wanted. Granted it has been a few years since I have used online, so maybe things have changed. I also used Tinder for a while off and on, primarily hooking up, and had way more success that way. Maybe using it for dating will be an option now?

Eh, to each their own. I prefer the apps, but don’t think they’re inherently better. Huge generalization, I know, but the frequency with which I was contacted by guys who seemed SUPER lonely on the websites was off-putting. I don’t get that vibe from anyone I’ve ever spoken to on the apps, but it may just be that communication works differently.

I hated my time on OKCupid. My therapist mentioned once that she met her boyfriend there. My sister hates Tinder, but I really like it. One of my co-workers met her husband on EHarmony, and a friend of mine found that site just daunting.

@Cleo yeah, definitely time to write that dude off.
For the record, I met my partner on okcupid, but I actually prefer tinder. I feel like I have less of a tendency to rule people out for things that don’t actually matter when I use it. Okcupid gives me too much information.

I’m considering starting to date again, but I’m not sure I want to be actively looking for dates. Probably more just let myself be open to asking people out if I’m interested in them. There’s a guy who kind-of works on my floor, and he’s really cute, but he’s a consultant so he only comes to the office like once a month. I’ve had a crush on him for over a year and just haven’t been able to work up the courage to invite him for a drink.
I’m also a little worried about J’s reaction to the transition from me taking a break to me dating again. I hooked up with a friend a couple of months ago and he had a *really* strong reaction to it, but he doesn’t really know where it came from. He himself has been continuing to actively date and sleep with other people. I’m probably worried about nothing.

Last night Banjo and I went to two birthday parties and then had a nice end of the night at his place. This morning he surprised me with bunch ingredients and he made us a delicious meal (and didn’t let me help at all). He’s so sweet. Today we saw La La Land, which was fun if a little cheesy. Suddenly my weekends seem to go so fast when I have someone I want to spend a lot of time with!

*waves* been away from this site for a while and mostly a lurker previously. Now I’m circling back as I’m making another foray into the online dating world. I found that paying okcupid a few bucks for incognito makes a world of difference for me – no more being bombarded by bros looking for a quick hookup, dudes my dad’s age, or even just a lot of well-thought out messages by people I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t be interested in. After a few first meetings with no spark/interest in a second date from one side or the other, I’ve had two great dates with a new guy over the last week. There was that rare (for me) feeling of hitting it off from the start and a lot of fun witty banter. Plus he looks like a younger/cuter Dr. House. No telling if it will go anywhere this early on, but it’s nice to be excited about someone after being mostly out of the dating scene for a while!

Yay nickel I’m glad you had a good date! And Copa I hope your date goes really well!

I have a date tonight that I’m excited about too! It’s a first date with a guy I started talking with last week. We are meeting for a coffee and we agreed if that goes well we should go to the trampoline park lol. So two 30 somethings going to jump on trampolines should be interesting. I’m hopeful the coffee will go well and based on our conversation this week, I think it will. Fingers crossed for a good date. And everyone else going on dates this weekend – good luck!

I wasn’t looking forward to today due to, well, Washington, but at least I have a date to look forward to.

I hope all your dates went/will go well!

But Ver, be careful at the trampoline place! A friend of mine broke something in her leg at one of those places and has had two surgeries because of it. She could barely walk down the aisle at her own wedding this past fall.

Good luck on your date Veritek! Have fun 🙂

I am still talking to New Dude (the one who’s moving) every single day. But we had a discussion early in the New Year and agreed to just keep things the way they are and not talk about exclusivity/commitment for now (fwiw I’m not sleeping with him – all we’ve done is kiss/makeout – so I’m ok with keeping things as is for the time being).

I still expect that I’ll be visiting him in the spring after he moves (hopefully over Easter) so that will be exciting – I’ve never traveled outside of North America before!

I’m enjoying the friendship we’ve developed. It’s nice that he actually likes to talk on the phone at night. I do have romantic feelings for him, but I’m aware that there’s a high probability that this may not go anywhere once there’s an ocean between us. So – it is what it is for now. If I meet somebody else in the meantime, I certainly won’t let him hold me back.

OMG Portia, I didn’t even think of that! Hopefully I’m not too clumsy haha!

Thanks Dre! I’m glad things are going well for you and glad you’re keeping an open mind to meeting new people as well 🙂
