@veritek How did the interview go?

I am done moving all my stuff to the new flat! I still need to do a shit ton of unpacking, though. The new tenant took over my old place–and almost backed out right before doing so–but in the end it went smoothly. I sent the property manager/ex good friend of mine/manipulative narcissist a final message confirming that housing was settled and that we are done in every aspect of my life (personal/professional) and then blocked him before he could respond. I didn’t get the rush of satisfaction I was hoping for, but at least those loose ends are tied up and I think I got as much closure as possible given the situation.

Banjo was really sweet and helped me move all my stuff Sunday evening. It ended up being a bigger job than expected but he stayed and helped the whole time. He even cancelled a early morning commitment he had the next day so he could stay. He’s made me really delicious brunch creations several weekends in a row so tomorrow I’m making him huevos rancheros! He knows much more about cooking than I do so I’m actually a little nervous about cooking for him but hopefully it’ll be good. We have a work event tonight with a lot of free drinks so that’ll be fun too. TGIF!

@Lucia_la aw, that’s really sweet that he stuck around to help you move! I think the unpacking is the best part, actually. I love setting up a new place.

I asked out a cute guy who works in my building yesterday! I have had a crush on him for over a year, but for the most part any time we see each other, he’s getting onto an elevator, or surrounded by coworkers. Yesterday we happened to be getting onto the elevator at the same time, and he was only going one floor so I decided to go for it. We are getting drinks at the Whiskey Bar on Sunday. I was a little worried about how J would react, since it’s been 7 months since I’ve dated anyone else, but he seemed totally comfortable with it.

@lucia it went really well! They didn’t seem concerned about minimal management experience and only asked me one question about it. Interview lasted a little over an hour and I really liked the organization and told them I think I’d be a great fit. As one of the interviewers was walking me out to the security door she turned to me and said “I think you did a really great job in there” – so let’s hope she knows what she’s talking about! They’re supposed to make a decision either today or Monday, so either way I won’t be stuck waiting around forever for a decision 🙂

    Thank you for asking!

Just got a call asking me back for a second interview on Monday! I guess it went well.

The new guy has his other phone interview today so we’ll see what happens with that but we’ve still been talking and will probably see each other again.

Yay veritek! I’m so jealous of your interview since I’m stuck in a now month-long waiting game on that front.

Hey – have you all heard of the new dating app “Hater”? I just did yesterday and it sounds super fun! You’re matched on your dislikes rather than your likes. Is this old news and I’m just now finding out about it?

    Thank you Stone and Copa!

Copa I will send good vibes and thoughts your way. The waiting game was super hard when I was unemployed last year, so I know the feeling 🙁

Ktfran – I’ve never heard of that app! But I’ve heard of huggle? I haven’t tried either.

I had a wonderful date with the younger guy again yesterday – I think I’m going to start calling him the Musician because he plays almost every instrument known to man. We went on a meadery tour and got to taste mead for the first time and got free glasses; he even bought a bottle. Then we went to dinner and then to a pub near his apartment for a local comedy show. He is such a sweetheart – we had a lot of time to kill between the meadery tour and the show, and he knows I have a dog so he drove me back to my house (20 minutes away) to let her out and hang out with her a little bit before going all the way back to the pub.

Then we sat in his car after the show and he played me my favorite Disney song on a harmonica he had in his pocket. It was one of most sweetly spontaneous things a guy has ever done for me.

I’m kind of pinching myself right now because it’s just been years of slogging through dating and I seem to have veritably stumbled onto such a sweetheart. My 30something cynicism is telling me to not get my hopes up at all but it’s seriously so much easier with him than it has been with anyone else in the past few years…or, perhaps, ever. Ahhh!

He wants me to get out my violin (which I played as a kid) and play with him, so we’re going to take it to the local music store to get strings and get a new bow. I haven’t played in more than a decade but he really wants me to play with him. Here’s hoping I don’t totally embarrass myself, heh.

You guyssss. I’m in like. 🙂 I went on another date with the guy I’ve been out with a few times — I’m going to start calling him Dimples if I haven’t already on here — and he’s just so kind. And good-natured. And smart. And handsome. We went to a cooking class and it was so much fun, and he let me take home both of our leftovers. Letting me have all the leftover cake is truly romantic in my book. 😛

We went for a drink at a nearby bar after and talked about what we’re each looking for and for now it seems we’re both on the same page (both looking for a real relationship, neither of us is seeing anyone else). Still super early to know if we’ll find what we’re looking for with each other, but I’m definitely enjoying my time with him, and it seems like we both want to continue to see where this goes for the immediate future.

I will say, though, that even though all signs at this point are positive, it’s harder than I thought to be hopeful about this. I’ve gotten to the point where I genuinely do think I’m going to be ghosted by every guy I meet. Or that things will otherwise fall apart.

Oh, and @ktfran, I downloaded the Hater app just to see what it’s all about. You have the option of loving, liking, disliking, or hating different prompts — everything from “YOLO” to “the guy should pay on the first date.” I hadn’t heard of it before and I’m guessing it hasn’t picked up steam yet because there weren’t a ton of men to swipe through. I’m not interested in meeting anyone else right now, but I did match with and receive a message from a guy who seems nice and normal. If things go south with Dimples I may give it a real chance.

This is pretty much how I feel about EVERY guy I end up liking, even if I’m just interested in getting to know him better, and it pretty much always happens. Self-fulfilling prophecy I guess.

I truly hope things continue to go well for you. Good luck and have fun 🙂

@Copa and Miss Dre – I know that feeling so well and I’ve been working in therapy to get that voice to shut up. It extends to career stuff too. After being laid off your career confidence goes in the toilet. And even knowing I interviewed fantastically yesterday and answered all the questions to the best of my ability and wowed them with my portfolio – I’ve convinced myself I won’t be offered the job. And I’ve even been asked to interview somewhere else tomorrow for another position – so I know my resume must be pretty good, but is it good enough for the employers I want to work with?

Same with guys. This guy I am “dating” seems perfect, I’ve loved getting to know him and talking with him – but in the back of my head, I was not surprised that something came up to put it all on hold. Temporarily or permanently. New therapist is trying to beat that out of me, but it’s a hard mental habit to break. I’m feeling your pain!
