I had a pair of kelly green peep-toe flats that I freakin’ LOVED because they somehow went with EVERY summer outfit, but they finally fell apart after many years of wear. I have yet to find anything to replace them and it gives me the sads. 🙁 Lovely photos, @TheHizzy!!

    Those are beautiful pictures Hizzy!

Cops, you got this. Good on you for weighing yourself and now you have a number to work with.

Belated congrats to Ver for the move in!

So back to nails (haha been catching up) how often do you go for a manicure for regular polish? Also what is it like to go from gel to no polish? My concern is if it makes your nails less healthy. My mom never did/does manicures so I feel I didn’t grow up with it. But maybe having good nails will make me seem more together haha

@hfantods I did a couple manis here and there with paint only. Always chipped super fast for me. I used to use this clear Sally Hensen product my Grandma would give me to strengthen them and biotin from time to time. My future step-daughters do the dips and it’s like every 3 weeks I think?

I used to go every 2 weeks. The gel will damage a little but how it is taken off is a big factor. I do gel at home weekly now and have really no damage.

I got a gel manicure back in the summer and it definitely damaged my nails — made them ridiculously brittle and they kept breaking off as soon as they got past where they connect to the skin on my finger. They never did that before; I actually usually have really nice nails. The damage finally grew out last month. Never again. (It did look good while it lasted, though.)

I go once a week for regular mani and it stays fine for almost the whole week.

Gel lasts 2 weeks. I rarely do gel. It doesn’t really damage my nails, but it’s just annoying to get it removed.

I do gel for long trips, otherwise I get manicures. Most of my manicures last at least 5 days and I get them once or twice a month. I keep my nails short, which I think helps with chipping? Or maybe it’s in my head? And I keep them under the dryer for a minimum of 15 minutes.

Gel manicures haven’t ruined my nails, but I don’t get them consistently.

Gels/dips/basically any nail enhancement can weaken and thin your nails. If you have strong, healthy nails, then it might not be all that noticeable. If you are like me and have kind of weak crappy nails to begin with, though, you will definitely notice. It’s definitely worse if you continually get manicures back to back to back, so a few weeks’ break between really helps.

Around here at least, it’s only $12 + tip, and it does make me feel pretty and put together. That and eyebrows. My husband and I go to Benefit once a month. An eyebrow wax on a guy can make a surprising difference in his look. I just get a tweeze because I don’t want to permanently lose any hair, and I’m blonde and don’t have all that much eyebrow.

Love the pictures and shoes, @TheHizzy! You guys look really happy together and that’s awesome!

If I do gel manicure, every two or three weeks, depending on how it’s holding up. But in 2019, I’m not doing that unless I have an event. I’ve stopped doing regular manicures because I never fail to ruin fast, I already have nice nails, and it’s just not worth it to me. Good nails do make me feel put together, but chipping polish has the opposite effect on me.

Also, not that it’s any of my business how you spend your money, but IMO if you’re trying to budget or build your savings, manicures are kind of a waste of money.
