Yes! I’m a little bummed they asked me to work tonight because I’ve seen him once in the past (almost) four weeks! So if he comes he’d have to spend at least a little time flying solo while I’m checking people in… but it’d just be nice to see him at this point. We have dinner plans tomorrow night, too, and St. Patty’s plans on Saturday. Not sure exactly how his jetlag is hitting him but when I came home from CT the time change was similar and it took me a solid 4-5 days to stay up past 9. So if he opts out tonight or we do the early bird dinner tomorrow, not a big deal. I know we’ll see each other more regularly moving forward, and we’re trying to find a good weekend to spend in NYC together since he has two work weeks in a row that will be out that way.
ETA: To answer your question, he’s heard about my coworkers and about our volunteers, who can be quite a crowd to people watch. Tonight’s event isn’t as mingle-y or small talk-y as some (and technically our sister company’s event), which is why I was hoping I could bring him.

It looks like next weekend i will be meeting husbands mom for the first time! Wow. They don’t have a good relationship. She was pretty abusive to him growing up and a little over a year ago decided she wasn’t talking to him anymore. Last night suddenly a text and then today an invite. Kinda weird to me to refuse to speak to your child for a year then suddenly “come to a party”. I don’t even know that’s she’s met son and he’s 16.
This should be awkward. Especially since it’s at his grandmas. She has made it clear she isn’t a fan of mine…for not inviting her to my wedding….THAT DIDNT FREAKING EXIST. ugh. It always feels very stiff to me when I’m around them, not because of her not liking me for not inviting her to an event that never happened, just because his family is kind of that way while mine is really open and talk a lot.
So that’ll be, um, something.March 14, 2019 at 3:52 pm #837196
wow @jd – are you sure you and your husband don’t have violent stomach flu symptoms including projectile vomiting?
You look a little green. Are you sure you’re ok?March 14, 2019 at 3:58 pm #837199
Haha I so want to say go without me but I know he’d want my support and for me to go. However if the flu happens there’s just nothing I can do about it. hahaMarch 14, 2019 at 3:59 pm #837200
Yeah… not sure why he’d agree to go see her on her whim when she’s never met his son, was abusive, and went dark for a year. I’d make an excuse.March 14, 2019 at 4:00 pm #837201
I am not really sure why either @kate but we also haven’t had a chance to talk about it yet. He just sent me a text asking if im ok going. He can’t really talk or text much at work. I do intend to inquire when he is home tonight. Regardless of the reason I’ll be with him, just all so weird.

I’ve only met my MIL once. She’s crazy and has become pretty abusive in her older age, and stopped talking to my husband for a while last year. But it was kind of entertaining meeting her. She wasn’t rude to me, just told a lot of stories and I laughed and was like, “yeah? Uh-huh! Hahaha!”March 14, 2019 at 4:07 pm #837204
Ya, I am sure it won’t be as awful as I think, although they don’t drink so there’s never even a glass of wine around to soften the blow haha.March 14, 2019 at 4:58 pm #837212
When I first met BOF’s* mother she grabbed my head and smooched me.** Then BOF’S grandmother grabbed my head and smooched me.*** At 29, she had never brought anyone home before so they were pretty excited.
*Bride of Fyodor
**She was at the time, not yet the Bride of Fyodor, only his girlfriend
***I am, after all, very smoochable.March 14, 2019 at 11:48 pm #837266
I dunno, I think at any age a kid just wants to hold out hope that their parent loves them and maybe this time will be the time it turns around. Poor guy, I can see why he’d want you there.
I was introduced to my in laws via a text photo on Anzac day. We were at the RSL having a grand old time so I was wearing a jack Daniels beanie, jack Daniels sunglasses and giant fake gold jack Daniels rings. They said very nice things about me regardless.March 15, 2019 at 7:57 am #837305
