Great news, ver! And a winery wedding sounds great. The winery around here we would’ve considered getting married at doesn’t do weddings in September/October, and August was a bit too soon (plus fiance sweats a ton and would melt in a tux). But I would’ve loved a winery wedding.

Current wedding stress of mine: figuring out if we should offer a shuttle from the hotels to the reception and back at the end of the night (and also stopping to drop people at the afterparty). It’s so pricey but I’m looking into school bus options.

I’d do schoolbuses, I’ve been on those and they’re fine. Just better to provide the ride and avoid bad driving decisions.

Agreed. If it won’t break the budget, I think it would be really nice to include. So many people get way more drunk at weddings than intended. For instance, me three Saturday’s ago. Sunday was YIKES! Luckily, the husband and I always take Uber.

EDT: We have to take a rideshare or cab (or bus or train or walk) because we don’t own a car.

EDT: I do think the shuttle or school bus option would be a lot easier if most people were staying at the same hotel. A friend did this for a wedding everyone had to travel to. It was a godsend. But everyone who attended the wedding stayed at the same hotel.

@K Would guests be able to easily find a Lyft? I’ve been to a few weddings that provided shuttles, but this has been pretty limited to the weddings that didn’t have an easy option like Lyft. If it’s expensive, I think no shuttle is usually fine.

ETA: On a work trip several weeks back, I went to dinner with some coworkers at a restaurant about a 25-minute drive from where we were staying. We were in a quiet resort area in the Midwest. Getting a Lyft to dinner was okay (about a 10 minute wait for the closest driver). Getting back was a mess. It took us about 10 minutes to secure two Lyfts, and we had to wait 20 minutes on top of that. And then the 25-minute drive on top of that. Super frustrating! So if you’ll be somewhere without easy access to a safe ride home and it’s in your budget, I think shuttles are a nice option.

My only concern would be that people would think, oh fuck a Lyft, I can drive, then drive to the reception and get drunk and not be able to Lyft home because their car is there. Obviously that’s on them, but if anything happened…

@Copa, there is Uber/Lyft in the area but not a ton of them as we are in the suburbs. For example I could see 3 groups of people calling them and then other people having to wait longer until more are available. I’m not sure how many would be available at one time between the two companies. I just got a quote for a school bus and it’s $350 less than the shuttle, so that’s encouraging.

@ktfran: Right now we have 30 rooms blocked and only 6 are booked (10 rooms at 3 hotels, each hotel didn’t have more than 10 rooms to give me). But we’re sending out invitations soon, which is why I need to figure out if I’m going to include shuttle info along with the hotel info. Two hotels are right next to each other, so I’d just do the shuttle from those. The other one is a 5 minute drive from those two. People might be staying at Airbnbs and such too, or other hotels, but maybe if I mention the shuttle option then more people will book at those specific two hotels.

Yeah. I’m with @Kate. Unless most are from a larger city where people regularly use rideshares, they’d probably think fuck it and drive. Especially if they’re coming from smaller cities/rural areas. Even when I was in KC over Memorial Day, I was surprised how many people still drive after a day of drinking.

If you had to cut costs somewhere else so people could be safe, cut costs on party favors!!!

I did not have party favors at our wedding. I’m not sad about it.

I haven’t settled on favors yet so that’s definitely a cost that can be minimized!
