@Fyodor I’ll be in Florida for work soon and then my husband is flying down for the weekend so we can visit his mom and sister who live near Cape Canavarel. As an earth science nerd I’m excited to go to the Kennedy Space Center!

Also, I guess I’m a bit out of the ordinary because I have nothing at all to personalize my desk area. I used to work shifts and didn’t have a set desk, but now I’ve had my own space for over 6 years and never did anything to make it my own. My coworkers have photos of their family up though.

So this is super depressing, I know, but I always said I wanted to take my little girl dog Lottie to the beach so she could see it before she passed away (not thinking it would happen ANYTIME SOON, ahem) so I took her to Hilton Head to my cousin’s (ridiculously expensive) wedding in July. They had the wedding at the Hilton hotel on the beach. Easily over $200k. I took pictures of the beachfront hall and sent them to my boyfriend in real time because of how opulent it was. My cousin was the groom, so her family paid for all of it. (She also had given me and my sister +1s and then retracted them, which was a huge debacle between her and my aunt, her new MIL – my aunt was pissed. It was pretty funny. It was a little too early to ask my boyfriend to come stay with my whole family at the beach anyway, and my sister was single, but still – hilarious.) At least they had an open bar, but the food was terrible for how much it probably cost.

My Lottie walked on the beach there with me and got to be on the beach for the first time in her life.

She passed away the day we got back. 🙁 So that trip is pretty difficult for me to think about, but she did get to go to the beach and we went into the ocean up to her chest. She was so brave for being 7lbs. I really miss her.

Anyways, hope everyone has fun on all your trips! I should be starting a new job very soon so there will be no trips for me for awhile, lol.

Also can we talk about DISNEY PEOPLE? WTF? There are some people who just LOVE Disney and have to go all the time. One of my girlfriends married a guy whose whole family is like that. She moved from NC to LA to marry him and his brother works at Disneyland and they have yearly passes. She thinks it’s pretty ridiculous but she loves him…she does get sick of it, though. It’s so weird but there is a definite sector of the population who are like this. My sister dated a guy like that too, and I kind of dated a guy whose brother married into a family like that. VERY ODD.

@TheLadyE, my dog LOVED the beach so much. There is this place on the Cape that is dog-friendly where you can walk through woods off-leash and also swim on a nice calm beach. But after he lost all his eyesight literally overnight at the beginning of August we couldn’t go there anymore. But on the day after Labor Day we were able to take him on the real beach (the no-dogs rule ends on Labor Day). And omg he had so much fun. He ran free and bolted toward the water. Even chased seagulls he could hear but not see. It was incredible. We wanted to take him again a month later for his birthday, and I’m so glad we did. This was Columbus Day weekend, I think, the 12th. We have him a little steak too. And then the next weekend he passed unexpectedly.

On Memorial Day weekend we’re going to scatter some of his ashes at that place where he loved to run and swim all his life.

    Anyway. I feel you.

People pay a ton of money to have their weddings at the Disney princess castle.

To my Disney friend and her Disney husband’s credit, they live in FL (well, she does — they’re currently in an LDR marriage, it’s weird) and have season passes. So I assume that helps keep costs down. But the heat, the crowds, the lines, the added costs — just not for me as a regular activity. She also had her bachelorette party at Disney. When I saw photos online, I admit — I felt a bit excluded when I saw who made the invite list. But then I thought of how much money the other women were out paying for their airfare and several days of park admission and hotels, not to mention food, drinks, and the ugly matching shirts they wore. I grew up not far from Disneyland, and we had season passes when I was a kid and I have fond memories of going with my family. I’d go back to Disneyland in Anaheim for the nostalgia.

My sister (29) is getting a divorce after 3 1/2 years of marriage. Her husband changed into a completely different person in the last 6 months. Anyways, I am completely pessimistic about marriage and relationships in general. It’s like every marriage around me is crumbling.

How are things with you, @Ale? I feel like we haven’t had any updates in awhile! (Also, sorry to hear about your sister’s marriage.)

Don’t get me wrong, MofV and I have been binging Disney weddings on YouTube to get all the snarkiness out of our systems before the sister’s wedding.

HOWEVER – they really can be quite beautiful and Disney does everything for you. You basically pick from a menu of all the things and then it shows up for you. Not how I want to do my wedding but I can certainly see the appeal.

It’s not something I would spend my money on but I’m just not an amusement park or Disney person. MofV loves Epcot but that’s mostly because of all the nerdy stuff and alcohol.

LadyE – I’m so glad your pup got to see the ocean. When mine was still feeling good I took him for a long walk on the statewide trail and he loved smelling all the things. I might take some of his ashes out there some day.

Ale – I’m sorry about your sister. But I suppose it’s better to get out of a bad marriage sooner rather than later.

@Ver, there’s a great little tequila bar in “Mexico” at Epcot. It seats like maybe 15 people, but not a lot of people go and chill there so you can get right in. A tequila flight and chips and gauc is definitely a good time away from crowds at Epcot. Of course, this is only if tequila is your thing.

EDT, they have margarita’s too, obviously.

    In that case…

I learned about this little gem from one of my close friends. Who is one of those adults who LOVES everything Disney. She and her husband go a lot. All my “insider” tips are from her.

I mean, Ale, marriage isn’t something you have to do. It’s not required. I do think a lot of younger marriages (starter marriages) end in divorce, and you’re seeing that.
