@MoneyPenny I think I remember where you are, and my dad’s entire family is still out that way. I’d love to be able to spend time there and be able to see my extended fam in a socially distanced setting. And I’ve thought about it. But the idea of flying makes me pretty uncomfortable and that’d be a pretty tedious drive. So, highly unlikely. But I love the idea of it.

ETA: My family owns a cabin in a resort-y, forest-y area out there and I feel like they’d be able to hook us up if I found a safe way to get out there.

@Copa, yeah, I remember you saying your dad’s family is in my area! (Large Northern CA coastal city…) I also would not really want to drive all this way either! A coworker of mine just drove out to stay with her mom for awhile in Salt Lake City, and it’s a 9hr drive. Her mom and mom’s bf drove halfway to meet her and her mom drove back with her to give her company/share in the driving, which sounded so nice!
I would love to spend some time in a cabin somewhere, but my bf has to work here, and he’s also worried about taking any time off- there’s nobody to cover for him right now and he doesn’t want to make anything complicated by asking for vacation. So, here we are. We do have a small yard that I’ve been gardening in, so at least I have some outdoor space to enjoy!

I asked the husband if he wanted to shelter in place in Calistoga in February, it’s our favorite area in Napa (in fact, we just placed a large order from Tank), he laughed and said we’d be broke after. So, that’s a no 🙂

Like you, @Moneypenny, there is only a handful of places we’ve been since mid-March. My sister’s in the burbs (four times, she had a new baby), my in-laws in the burbs (once), my single friend’s house (twice), the grocery store and CVS (regularly) and the office (once). Oh and I’ve been to my hair stylist (twice). I can’t believe I can count where we’ve been indoors other than our own condo.

hfantods, I’m sorry your boyfriend is leaving for so long. That stinks. Especially now.

Oh, I am happy to report that Alinea Air in Residence extended how long it’s open. We were able to rebook and are going on our 3rd anniversary. Although it feels like our 300th anniversary.

@Veritek33 CONGRATS 😀 It sounds early, but that is super exciting, keep us posted!

My friends BF just finished his PhD, he defended successfully yesterday after multiple go backs this summer. They are planning a small get away to a cottage to celebrate later in September, as they originally planned to go to Europe.

Things ended with the guy I was seeing, he asked to talk after I asked about what was happening with us and he basically said this job he is on is looking to be extended and he will have long days and unpredictable weekends. So he felt to be fair to me that we end it as he won’t be able to commit the time needed to sustain dating. So that sucks. Will take a break now, things aren’t getting all that better here in BC, although multiple places are demanding mask usage (transit and some big box stores), numbers keep going up. I only hope the winter will isolate people more and reduce the spread through gatherings.

Omigosh, Ktfran, that would be such a treat to SIP in Calistoga! 🙂 But yes, totally savings-draining for sure. One can dream, right?
A couple of my friends have gone wine tasting in Sonoma recently, since wineries can serve people outdoors and many are already set up for that. I was like, wait, they’re open?! I’m there! But, now there are fires so it’s best to just stay away for the time being. Probably the most exciting place I’ve gone is to the nursery to check out plants! We’ve gone to two places, and they are busy! I get so excited, it’s probably ridiculous.

And yes, the fires. This was totally mentioned weeks before they started. It’s devastating, what’s happening right now.

    Congrats @Ver! I’m so excited for y’all!!

I live in Colorado and would really like to get away to a cabin in a more remote part of the state (with a hot tub, on some land so more private) for a weekend or a bit longer. It doesn’t look like we will get to go home to visit extended family for either of the big holidays this year which we had contemplated.

And I would love a date night with my husband, one where it’s not at home. But that will have to wait until…….???

February ’21 weddings at Disney World are being cancelled right now. Bets on how long it takes for April and May weddings to be cancelled? My family member that works there says huge parts of the park still aren’t open and they are not currently doing any events like weddings.

Seven months from now seems like the other end of the ocean. I could see a path through better drugs/tests/luck with vaccines that it becomes non insane to have a Spring Disney wedding but I wouldn’t plan for anything right now before fall of 2021 at the earliest.

So BG and I move into the new place on Tuesday. I’m excited but a little nervous and overwhelmed. Late last week we thought we might have to push it out because of a delay from BG’s lender. Work is super busy so I hate having to take time away from work to move. I’ve spent the vast majority of this weekend packing and I’m always shocked by how much stuff I own, even though in the past year or two I’ve done some serious purging. Yesterday I took three trash bags of clothes to donate, as well as quite a bit of other miscellaneous items (books, DVDs, blankets). I need to do a second round tomorrow and know there will be more donations once we’re in the place and can better see how our items fit and what we might still have doubles of. I’ll still have my place through the end of the month so luckily I can deal with the final cleaning on another weekend. Anyway, ready to get this show on the road.

@Copa that’s very exciting! Moving can be the worst and it’s super overwhelming but I think it’s very exciting to combine and create your own space together. This will be a good test and it seems you are on very solid footing.

I was also shocked when I sold my first house at just how much i had accumulated and purged, but then still had a ton of stuff to move to my new house! It seems never ending. I’m taking a few days off work in October to clean out the garage and basement and purge more things before the city does their big junk pick up.
