I’m so sorry you got the coronavirus, ver. I’m glad overall you guys are OK. Did others get it at work before/around the same time as you?

I work at a small law firm and we are in the office. I think a lot of firms in my area are back in the office unless you are a large firm in an office tower. It is just us in our building and everybody is spaced out. You have to wear a mask unless your office door is closed. I feel relatively safe and honestly I’m grateful to be able to work in the office and see people. But I know there’s a risk and it is scary to think I could get it here. It also means I can’t fully quarantine and spend Christmas with my parents. I am fortunate I live 10 minutes away and I do see them maybe once a week with masks on and distanced. I just miss hugging my mom.

Glad you are okay, Veritek. It’s really infuriating that you had to work in person.

My sister also has to work in person, not because her job necessitates it but because her boss is a dick and doesn’t trust his employees to work at home. It’s really nuts. She was actually in a closed door meeting with a woman who’d been traveling for work, didn’t quarantine and tested positive the next day. Somehow, my sister didn’t get infected.

Now we’re getting notices pretty much everyday of how many additional kids have tested positive at our tiny local elementary school. They have brought back some kids, by choice 2 days/week. We chose to stay at home and do cyber. They’ve shut down the schools again starting next week, but it’s raging through the building.

    Stay safe, everybody.

I will be posting an even-higher-than-normal quantity of loud bad opinions tomorrow to make up for the fact that you can’t be at large family gatherings. You’re welcome in advance.

Oh, @kate, what’s the thin wallet you have? Or recommended on here a long while ago?

It’s the Ridge wallet. I have rose gold. It’s really good for either a tiny purse or just to stick in your pocket, for pandemic times when you don’t carry a real bag.

Thanks! I’m thinking it might be a good gift for the husband too. I’m at a loss this year. He’s getting the beer advent calendar from the local beer shop. And a puzzle. This might be nice too.

And I’ll probably want one as well. Ha!

I’m glad your family is okay, @Ver and I’m sorry you got sick.

I just got word that my nephew tested positive. He got tested because on Monday, his parents were notified that a classmate had tested positive over the weekend. He’s asymptomatic thus far, which is good.

What’s not good — my mom was over at my brother’s house babysitting his other two kids whose school had shut down due to COVID last week because my brother and his wife had to work and have already used up their COVID and sick leave, and she was over there on Sunday, too (because why the hell not, apparently?).

My mom is not in great health, and I am terrified that she will get it and die. So. Fun times this (very distanced) Thanksgiving.

Older people do not seem to be able to stay away from their grandkids! I hope she stays well.

    @KTFran
, my husband got it first, and then I wanted it, so yeah. Then my dad saw mine and wanted one.

Only thing is it CAN scratch if it comes in contact with something sharp. At least the aluminum one.

Oh my goodness Ver, I’m so sorry to hear you got it! And I’m also glad you’re feeling better and you had mild symptoms. So scary, and it sucks you got it from work too. 🙁

I just found out my cousin’s teenaged son has it. They live in the same rural town in Pennsylvania as my parents, where COVID is RAGING. My parents would be safer here in the city with me than they are right now because people won’t wear masks there. It’s ridiculous.

Sorry to hear about all these close contacts with Covid. Miss MJ, I’m worried about your mother; please keep us posted?

Those who follow my insta stories, know how I feel about schools being open, and what’s going on in your family is a big reason why. There were so many declarative statements that kids can’t get covid, they can’t spread covid, or even if they do, they can’t spread it to adults, and schools are safe and no one should worry. None of that ever made sense to me, from a common sense standpoint, and I’m very concerned by the amount of transmission that is only beginning to be traces to in-school learning, and what that means for extended families, teachers, and the communities at large (not to mention longterm effect on children, which we don’t even have a basic understanding about yet).

Anyway, all this to say, I hope your mom did not catch Covid from her grandkids, and if she did, I hope it’s a mild case and that she will be just fine. Thinking of you and your family!
