Well, that’s disappointing. If I recall correctly, though, you’re in a major city, right? I’m sure there are a lot of great venues to choose from and you may even find another you prefer. I think it’d be hard to plan anything right now. There’s the unknowns about the future of COVID and when things might start to feel safe enough for a celebration, and I don’t know how easy it is right now to go look at venues in person.

FWIW, one of my cousins got married on NYE. It was a very small ceremony/celebration with only immediate family, but the photos made the whole experience look great. They got married in a barn, unsure where, but it was Pinterest-worthy and even with minimal decor looked very elegant. My cousin’s now-wife has been married before and she chose a beautiful lavender dress with some embellishments. I can understand being disappointed if you’re the kind of person who has always dreamed of their wedding day being a certain way, but I do think there’s something to be said about the intimacy of a smaller wedding. (And if you decide you want the bigger party when it’s safe, go for it!)

Yes, there should definitely (I think) be other venues around. It was fun visioning something at that venue, so I’m glad I nipped that in the bud early. I think that is why we are leaning on a smaller number, because that way we have something fairly solid to plan around. I am getting excited to plan something. That said we are in a “lockdown” now — I put that in quotations because it is really not much of a lockdown.

I never dreamt of my wedding, but I always thought it would be a larger one, due to the size of my extended family. I also like the idea of bringing old friends together. Now that I’m engaged, I realize I am not too bothered by it all. I just want to get married. Of course, I mean I do care, but I am coming around to the idea of a smaller wedding. My mom is also being remarkably chill and she says my fiance and I can do what we want… She was not quite as chill with my older sister, unfortunately, heh.

@hfantods I’m sorry this isn’t working out the way you wanted it to.

Having been in the unique position of my planned wedding being cancelled literally three days beforehand when the state shut down, looking back, I’m glad we didn’t have a lot of time to dwell on it or think, we just had to act. We had three days to flip the switch and go from a 50 person winery brunch wedding to less than ten people at a girl scout cabin with carry out lasagna and my dog as the flower girl. We didn’t get our bridal party or our grandparents or out closest friends to be there.

I still have mixed feelings about our wedding day and the fact it did NOT go the way we planned and saved and dreamed of. But honestly, at the end of the day, I married my husband and got to wear my pretty dress and my parents got to be there and his parents got to be there. That’s what was most important. Someday we may renew our vows and throw the party we intended to throw when all this is finally over.

However, one of the nice things about this pandemic has been that I see the small wedding making a comeback. I think lots of couples will now opt for smaller weddings rather than over the top, debt fests. And in my opinion that’s a great thing. That’s how weddings used to be.

I hope you get a fantastic wedding day, and just know, looking back almost 10 months later, though it did not go the way we planned, it was still an amazing day and I will carry fond memories of it forever.

Veritek, I think some people will feel absolutely fine with a smaller wedding but those are the people who would have already been fine with a “small-ish” wedding. The princes and princesses who demand to have their speshul day aren’t going away anytime soon. I mean, how many couples still had large-ish weddings in 2020 and demanded no one show up in a mask (eff you grandma!)?

You’re a rational person so you think other people are rational. You gotta stop that.

My mistake @LisforLeslie. I forgot about my sister in law. She will be one of those people.

I will stop being rational. Sigh.

I felt for anyone whose plans were upended because of the pandemic. But I have little sympathy for anyone currently planning a large 2021 wedding whose plans may have to change — we know now, and have known for awhile, that this isn’t going away as quickly as we may have optimistically thought last March and we’re facing a lot of unknowns. Small gatherings still seem like the best wedding option for the foreseeable future. What’s the latest on your SIL’s wedding?

Yeah, as someone who lives far from most of my oldest friends and extended family, one of my favorite parts of attending weddings has been the reunions that come along it. That’s disappointing. If that IS important to you, enough to postpone the wedding, there’s not a huge difference between fall 2021 and early 2022.

So this is about drugstore makeup, which I’m partial to. Has anyone tried the e.l.f Camo CC Cream? I tried it because YouTubers were raving that it’s better than the It Cosmetics one, which I haven’t tried. Anyway it’s fantastic. It definitely covers like a foundation, but not cakey, not needing a primer, nothing like that. It looks very natural while being pretty full-coverage. It has SPF 30 and also collagen, peptides, and niacamide. I still love Maybelline Dream Fresh BB cream, which is kind of sheer and that’s fine for my maturing skin, but i love this one too and this would be fantastic for someone who wants more coverage. It wears really well too, all day, even on the oily parts of my face. I got my usual “light” with warm tones, and it’s perfect. 5 stars.

I generally really enjoy ELF products, I’m not surprised the concealer is good. I just got their colour correction primer today to help with my rosacea, fingers crossed.

Well, this is a full-face thing but they have a concealer in the same range. You should try!

I haven’t tried it. I used the It Cosmetics one and I like it enough that I’ve repurchased, but find it pretty thick. Pre-COVID, it was my casual weekend go-to and is now my go-to when I want to look put together for video calls. I use maybe half a pump or less for my entire face and mix it with a lightweight lotion to thin it out, I otherwise find the product too thick and the coverage too full for what it is. For the price of elf products, I’d definitely give their version a try.

FWIW I don’t find it thick. I use half a pump as a little goes a long way, but the consistency isn’t heavy or thick. It spreads easy and I don’t “see” it on my face even though it’s not as sheer as Maybelline bb. I think it blurs pores nicely too.

It’s not dirt cheap – like $14 at Target – but absolutely well worth it.

I am going to say two controversial things now. Eep.

    1. I have never used any kind of liquid foundation or concealer ever. My mom ingrained in me that it “clogs your pores” when I was a teenager and I just never got into it. I have a concealer stick from Bare Minerals that I occasionally use if I have blemishes or I look exhausted but more often than not I just use my Bare Minerals pressed powder which has SPF 30. Is that…bad?

    2. I feel like a heartless bitch but I am getting pretty annoyed with people (women) who have chosen to get pregnant during this pandemic acting all ~woe is me~ and surprised when they will have to do things like, for example, wear a mask in the hospital. Like…you chose to get pregnant during a global pandemic when the US at least had terrible leadership (which my friends believe! I’m not friends with Trump supporters!) so…why is this a surprise? Why are you spending hours crying about it and posting about it on social media? Kind of like having very little sympathy for people planning big weddings in 2021 – and my best friend’s twin sister is one of those – I’m the same regarding people who are having babies and getting all upset about it. Not to say people shouldn’t have babies, I mean, you do you, but if you actively choose to get pregnant in a global pandemic when we’ve been shut down for months with no end in sight, uh yeah, you’re gonna have to wear a mask in the hospital and yeah, there will be COVID patients there. Duh. (I can’t say this to the women who are actually doing the complaining because it feels heartless, and maybe it is, IDK, but it’s really annoying me.)
