Yeah, and Courtney lied and said she’s natural now. I mean, I get it, but it’s important not to forget these folks all get eye lifts and lip lifts and neck lifts and face lifts.

She totally went alien. I have a hard time looking at people who’ve had that much work done. My recently watched Modern Family in full and Both Julie Bowen and Ty Burrel were a little had to look at toward the end.

That’s why I want to try regular facials. I know it won’t help aging and fine lines, but I’m hoping it will help keep my skin looking fresh. Especially in Chicago since the weather can swing 40+ degrees in a day.

I’m not sure facials do anything you can’t do at home, but they are nice and pampering. Well and I guess they’re using expensive products that you’d otherwise have to buy. I think lasers and microdermabrasion/ peels can do things you couldn’t or shouldn’t do at home.

I don’t pay a ton of attention to celebs, but yeah, Courtney Cox did not look good. No clue what she looks like now. There’s a TikTok account I’ve stumbled across that basically outs celebrities who claim they’ve never had work done for obvious changes to their faces. Not sure any of these people have any business running these types of accounts, sometimes I look at the pics she chooses and think, “Well, yeah, my nose shape would look different from different angles, too,” but I’ve watched a few.

I’m not even someone actively trying to stop aging in its tracks or even look younger — I’m frequently told I look young for my age, even by women about my age (which I mention just cause I think in your teens/20s, 30s can seem so far off/old, even though it’s not, so when a 20-something says something about it I just assume they have a skewed perspective of 30-somethings). But I would like to not look tired. Why some people feel the need to tell others they look tired, I don’t know. Generally speaking, I think I look good. I also think I’m going to age like my mom, who is 70 and looks great.

Are you using a chemical exfoliant like the Paula’s Choice AHA or The Ordinary Glycolic toner, then Vitamin C (day) and retinol (night) serums and a good seasonal moisturizer? If not, do that first and see if your skin doesn’t look fresher. If you already are, then sure, try facials or see what a Derm says.

    This was to KTFran.

Well, there’s extractions. My skin is pretty good, but I do have a couple areas that need help. Also, because my skin changes regularly throughout the year, I can get targeted treatments instead researching and buying several different kinds of creams or oils or whatever. I prefer to keep my at home care super simple.

I know you def like researching and trying products to see what works. I’m not good at it/don’t like it.

My at home experimentation is always related to food, my true passion.

Or I guess I could see a dermatologist. But meh. The couple I’ve gone to throughout my life I absolutely didn’t like.

My sister and I have reached a kind of awkward point where people are surprised our age gap is only two years. We’ve gotten several comments in the past couple years. (Which, again, people could stand to think through their commentary before speaking.) I think genetics play a big role in things like skin and how we age and no amount of retinol or sunscreen can save us from that, but when I look at me and my sister, I think I’m the one who does a better job with the things within my control. I’m probably the bigger drinker, though.

My friend with the most beautiful, most flawless skin, it’s totally genetic. Her mom also has beautiful, flawless skin and claims her secret is to never wash her face. Like her mom, my friend does nothing and her skin is, like, RADIANT. One time I visited her and had forgotten my face lotion, so asked if she had some. She handed me some heavily scented, purple Bath & Body Works type stuff that I’m scared to put on my face. I think she should at least be using sunscreen (she lives in FL but it’s not something she does habitually unless she’ll be laying out), but I also think she will always have beautiful skin like her mom regardless.

And yes, genetics play a big role.

Oh yes, genetics. My maternal grandma had flawless skin. She also had a lot of daughters and her daughters had daughters and we all look relatively young. I think the only time I look my age is after a couple nights of drinking and my eyes look tired.

They do say alcohol and sugar and an inconsistent sleep schedule are bad for skin.

And I get you about not caring to do research and buy products. There are things I for sure don’t care about doing and won’t do!

Like I don’t do home decor or cooking for pleasure, or entertaining at home.
