Girl! My mom had Color Me Beautiful done for her in the early 80s and she had the hardcover book. She is a summer and I have known I was a Spring since I was a little kid. Just a couple weeks ago my mom brought me some stuff of my grandmother’s because she and my dad are clearing out my aunt’s condo (she’s alive, but she’s been in a nursing home for 4 years and her condo needs to be sold. It still has ALL my grandma’s possessions in it, untouched since she passed in 1998, which I don’t think she would have liked). So anyway, I got my grandma’s purse-sized color swatch booklet. It accordions out and has all the little cloth swatches of colors you can wear, so you can take it shopping. She was a Spring too, so her colors are also my colors. It’s a cool thing to have, and it’s got this tiny pamphlet in it about the “Spring Woman,” which is hilariously dated. That said, the Seasons stuff is still going strong today and definitely holds up. You should definitely do it!

I also got a vintage black patent leather purse, a 5-Diamond band that my Great Grandfather gave my Great Grandmother in 1953 which goes well with my wedding rings, my grandmother’s sorority jewelry, and other stuff. She was a blonde stunner, and my grandfather looked like Superman. I really should have been better looking.

I think the TikTok algorithm knows I watch all of the color analysis videos all the way through because they feed me so many. Sometimes I’ll watch a video a few times to see if I can tell the difference in someone’s face/appearance when they swap the color swatch from a cool tone to a warm tone of the same color. I can’t always tell. The only reason I know what lipstick looks good on me is because I have one that I am consistently complimented on, ha. Sometimes I’ll get asked if I’m wearing colored contacts, which I don’t. I know some colors bring out the green in my eyes, but don’t know which ones. I think I’m a winter. I’ve been heavily paring down my wardrobe in the past couple years. It’d be nice to know what colors flatter me most as I build it back up.

If you’re a winter, you would look good in saturated jewel tones, and black, and white. It’s a cool season, so warm colors wouldn’t flatter you. Spring is warm, and if I wear cool toned tops or makeup, something is definitely off. I can wear a bright clear red like a watermelon, or a tomato red, but definitely not a burgundy or a blue-toned red. Can I detect exactly what’s going on, no, but I don’t look or feel as good.

I think I’m a warm. I’d have fun doing a color analysis though. Report back Copa!

From what I’ve read, winters have high contrast. I have medium brown hair, dark eyebrows, and lighter (hazel with a lot of green) eyes. The contrast doesn’t feel as stark as all the pics I see of celeb winters online (Megan Fox, Lauren Graham) because my eyes aren’t as bright. So I feel I’m high contrast but maybe not because of my eyes. And then when it’s summer, I can get pretty dark and my hair naturally lightens. I’m decidedly not high contrast in the summer. So maybe not a winter, I don’t really know! I can tell if I look a little washed out in a color, but it’d be nice to understand what to look for when I’m choosing clothes. Will report back — it’s not for another month.

I think I’m a warm spring or light spring. But based on the Amazon color me book, I think summer? It’s a little confusing. I think I have some conflicting features. I used to be all cool toned and burned but now I can tan and feel like my face is more neutral/warm. I feel like my colors have changed in the last few years because my hair is a little darker and more red is coming in.
    -Clearly not great at this.

That is very interesting @copa! Sometimes I feel those analyses don’t work with East Asian skin tones although I’m sure somebody has written about that.

Any thoughts on Kibbe body types? I get that on TikTok too lol.

My husband has offered to gift me a Dyson air wrap with points. He is trying to phase out of that points system. I’m still tempted and yet there are mixed reviews. Even though it’s with points I’d feel bad if I didn’t like it.

Are those the TikTok videos where someone will go on about, like, soft romantics vs. theatrical romantics? If so, I find all of that confusing and boring and scroll past. I do like TikTok for fashion/styling advice, but I’ll look for users who are in a similar age range and who either have similar body type to mine or a similar body “concern” (e.g., petite friendly finds).

I use my Dyson quite a bit. I think there’s a newer model out than the one I bought. But I definitely don’t think it’s a must-have. It seems to work best for hair that can hold a curl.

Yes! I didn’t really understand it so I ignored it mostly too.

My hair doesn’t really hold a curl but it’s coarse so maybe that helps?

I think if you’re on the fence about the Dyson, try to find one to test out before you get it. It’s not cheap. I use mine regularly and think it’s a fun toy, but even then I’d probably still say it’s not worth the money. But hey, if it’s free with points that need to be used anyway… go for it!

My husband is applying for a position in Oregon.
I am at the “excited at the prospect” stage of mental breakdown.

I’d that a good stage to be in? What’s the timeline of the filling the position?
