GuestIs that the “oh great I have to uproot my life and move to a state that is both diverse and freaktastic but also filled with white supremicists? And how the hell am I going to pack up all this shit and sell the house and buy a house and oh my god where are we going to live until we buy a house and what the hell are house prices like there and now I can get rid of all the old tupperware because who needs to move that, oh man, is tupperware even recyclable? Do I care? I just bought a new bottle of kitchen cleaner and you can’t move that. Shit. How much will we use before we leave? I guess I could give it to the neighbor. I’m going to miss them if we have to move.” Excited at the Prospect freakout? Because I do not blame you one freaking bit.

GuestYeah, I think it is a good spot in my breakdown to be in. I joke but when we moved east is when my therapy journey started. I had a panic attack, went to the ER because even then I knew coming east would be confronting my past. I’m trying to meditate and calm my way through this.
I’m excited to move west again, if it happens, which seems likely. I’m not really all that excited to pack, uproot, move etc but with this level, it gets paid for, so that’s a relief. We also generally get 3-4 months of housing paid for the move.
The timeline is the position closes in less than two weeks, he’s the only applicant and it’s in a region we both have worked in and a position he’s had before and been successful at.
Our idea is he would go out, find a place (which I fully trust him to do) I would stay here, ride out the school year and then we’d all move in June.
I am excited about OR, hopefully my liberal enclave protects me from the white supremacists in eastern Oregon, and quite honestly- suburban PA is starting to be a little too Christian. We had an in service day yesterday, the first day of Ramadan. They don’t call it a holiday because the White Christian Nationalist/Moms for Liberty group throw a fit anytime a non-Christian holiday is added to the school calendar. They were actually asking for percentages and names of students who we are “pandering to.” It’s a little crazy around here.

ParticipantI think that sounds exciting, @Anonymousse! I grew up moving a lot and as an adult I crave new beginnings and always want to blow up my nice life for a dramatic fresh start (kinda hilarious now since it was kind of traumatizing as a kid to frequently be moving, adjusting to new norms/cultures, navigating a new school/curricula, making new friends, etc.). I’d be having a breakdown, too, though. Let us know what happens!

GuestI should mention, we found a really great rental near my SIL when we moved here five years ago and we never moved out of that. Our savings got pummeled with my medical issues in 2020ish-now. We were actually about to be ready to look for a forever home. We’ve replenished the nest egg and the market is looking similar/slightly better there.
Thanks Copa! My son is very against it because he has a girlfriend he is intending to marry (since kindergarten) and doesn’t want to leave all his friends but he’s nearly 9. I know he’ll love it.

ParticipantHas anyone tried those thermal round brushes? I keep seeing them — specifically, the one by Amika — on social media and I’m curious, but I definitely don’t need any more hair tools. We’re in the process of doing some DIY updates to our guest bathroom — the boyfriend is installing shelving in a dead space and is almost done — so I’m planning to store my seldom used hair tools in there to free up space in the master bath. I should probably part with some of ’em since a lot are old. Like, purchased-in-college old. I think the only thing I’ve ever gotten rid of over the years is a triple barrel waver because I thought the results were ugly.

KeymasterI feel like those are for people with straight hair that want to make it look like a blowout. My hair is wavy and frizzy so I need to just get a blowout. I don’t want to blow dry it and then put more heat on it. That’s my hot take. I think they work though.

GuestI have the Revlon 1100 Watt 3 Heat 2 Speed Pro that goes for about $60 (CAD) on Amazon. I have super straight hair and love it – it took some time and YouTube tutorials to get the hang of it but I can get salon-level blowouts or big waves out of it now. I never blow-dry my hair, but air drying leaves it frizzy and really highlights the random kink in the middle, so this tool has been a lifesaver.
My hairdresser warned me that none of these brushes should be used as a hair dryer even though that’s often part of their name. They work best when hair is mostly dried.

ParticipantToday I learned I am an autumn who looks good in “true autumn” and “dark autumn” colors. I guess dark autumns are on the less warm end of the spectrum and can look a bit like deep winters. They thankfully send me home with color swatches, haha.

ParticipantThat’s fun Copa! Did you enjoy it?
Copa
ParticipantIt was fun, though not sure worth the price tag. It was cool to see how the tone of a color can change your face. We noticed that my complexion looked noticeably smoother with the warm color swatches. I also learned I can pull of mustard yellow, which I’m weirdly excited about for when fall rolls around. Some of my gal pals are now interested in going, and I wish I’d thought to ask them beforehand because you can go in small groups of 2-3 to get a discount. I thought it seemed so frivolous and I’d asked my sister, who was kinda like, wtf, no.
Kate
KeymasterI don’t think it’s frivolous. It’s important to know what colors suit you because it can keep you from wasting money on clothes. My mom had her colors done in the 80s and has used the guidelines ever since.
while you can probably figure it out from the color palettes online, and I’m not convinced all the draping is necessary, so what, it’s fun.

ParticipantI think it’d be fun! Where was it, if you don’t mind my asking? Doing it with a couple friends would be a good time.
