    Eh… rough week. I really think now that there is truly nothing left to look forward to… All that lies ahead is an endless series of increasingly bleak headaches.

    In other words… it’s time to start living real dangerously. An accident can be an unhappy person’s best friend.

    Bittergaymark: Sometimes depression’s voice can be so loud and insistent in your mind that you can mistake it for your own voice. I recognize it in some of your posts, because I’ve dealt with it as well. But don’t let it fucking win, Mark – even if it’s only out of spite and stubbornness, don’t let it win.

    It’s not just depression. It’s instead having a very objective and jarring oh lucid outlook at my life. The whole thing is just a complete bust. Has been for decades now. I’ve just long been in denial. It’s not going to magically get better. No way. No day.

    It’s simply not in the cards.

    Thanks for caring, though. But things are never going to work. All that is left to experience is new levels of disappointment. Fuck that.

    Ugh, my frickin uncle. He’s my mom’s baby brother, he’s 60, she’s 70. He lives in St Louis, and every year they (he and his wife) come to Cape Cod. For a while he was driving here with his dog and staying a MONTH, working remote, at my parents’ condo down there. He’s an ass. He’s always been a really pompous, sexist, racist kind of guy who doesn’t AT ALL believe he is, but he is. His childhood best friend told him years ago he needs to get some anti-racism training. He didn’t vote for Trump but had to be manhandled to vote for HRC. He’s a dick to me, can be a dick to my mom, and just all around annoying.

    ANYWAY, they’re coming here, driving across the country from MO where it’s a shitshow, through other states that are a mess, to MA where we now have the virus under control, and they’re obviously not going to quarantine as mass.gov says you should, and they’re going to be exposing my parents who have been super cautious. They did rent their own house, but still. What assholes. Stay home, you can’t take a year off?? Also, last 4th of July their (young) dog got hit by a car and killed and it was very traumatizing for everyone, my mom in particular. I’m so annoyed. I haven’t spent any time with my parents other than briefly, outside, since February, and these douchebags are just waltzing right in.

    I’m sorry. It seems like the rest of us make these enormous sacrifices and a bunch of assholes ruin it by doing whatever they want. It’s really despair-inducing sometimes.

    The governors of northeastern states are all over the news today saying don’t come here unless you get a test and/or quarantine for 14 days. Not “show up and go sailing for a week at the club!”

    I’m sorry @kate, that sucks. I’m in a similar situation. In Chicago, we’re doing fairly good comparatively. However, my parents, downstate IL on the Mississippi right next to MO, are coming to visit my other sis and her fam next weekend. They live in the burbs here. Cases are on the rise in parent’s county. It stayed at 42 for the past six weeks and now up 67 in four days. I’m not sure I want to see them. I know my mom has been pretty good, but my dad hasn’t. Ugh!

    I wish people would just follow the damn guidelines. They work!

    Agreed. Where a mask. Keep six feet away. Don’t gather in big groups. Wash hands. Don’t be an asshole.

    @Copa, I’m still technically working from home, but I’ve had to go back to court several times. I’ve been wearing dresses with a blazer. I live in the South and it’s hot af + we have to wear a mask all day long in the courtroom. I wore a full suit for my first day back in court but had to take off the jacket after maybe an hour bc the heat was making me queasy. I went with dresses and blazers or a skirt suit for the rest of that trial, and the judge ditched his robe too.

    I’m going to visit my parents next week in another state. Both my area and theirs are doing pretty well and everyone feels fine about it. Looking into getting tested before I head out that way, too, as an extra precaution. This may be hypocritical since I myself am planning a visit home, but the week after my boyfriend’s sister, BIL, and their three kids are coming to visit… but they are coming from a southern state where cases are surging and it makes me kind of uncomfortable.

    @ktfran
    I’ve heard through coworkers in Springfield that the areas of IL near the MO border have a VERY different perspective on this whole thing. Like, a lot of them pride themselves on not wearing masks.

    Oh @Copa, believe me, I know. They definitely have a very conservative more “southern” outlook on life. Many in that area hate and/or are afraid of Chicago and big cities in general.
