@MG I might try to get ten weeks. Through our Short term disability I get 3 weeks fully paid, 3-5 weeks at 60% pay, and then however much PTO I have saved up – which by my due date will be about three weeks. Either way it never seems like enough.
Back to the vaccine – I did have one friend get the pfizer vaccine and she said she felt like she was dying and considered not getting the second one. But she’s also super dramatic, literally she does all the theater productions and such locally, so I take her review with a grain of salt.
@veritek, I hope you are able to get more. Part of the reason is if you are breastfeeding so you’re out of some cluster-feed windows and also by 3 months (ish), babies TYPICALLY tend to start going for longer stretches of sleep… with the 4-5 month mark even better. This is key to functioning.
Also, not sure if anyone told you, but 4 hours of sleep in a row is like a magic number in the beginning (for parents). That is your goal.. it makes you feel human
Drew never ever complains about anything which is why I was so concerned last spring when he complained about covid symptoms days after I started feeling them. Anyway, he says his arm is sore and that’s his only reaction so far to the Pfizer shot yesterday. But then he went down for a nap and that was over two hours ago and he’s still out cold, so maybe the fatigue has caught him.
Hearing everyone who knows people getting vaccines makes me jealous. My mother in law made me let go of our child’s caregiver or she wouldn’t help out because she’s too scared of getting covid variant. On the one hand I see her point of course but on the other I feel Very resentful.l and trapped. I literally have no choice because I can’t afford full time care so need my in laws help. Daycare costs close to 2k per month and scares my MIL even more than a part time caregiver. Mother in law over 65 but were in Canada so no vaccine date in sight. We’ve also all had covid already including her but she’s worried about variants. Also we’re in lockdown until March 9 now so we will hit the 4 months that Melbourne did but of course without the corresponding success (naturally). I’ve just lost all faith. Not that I ever really had any in any level of government here but it’s really highlighted for me what poor quality of leadership we have at the provincial and federal level. about the pathetic ness of our “leaders” (its Canada focused) but does mention what a sad choice the US had between Trump and Biden as well. Everyone here always says “at least we’re not the US”. Honestly, I’d rather be there now – we would at least have hope on the near horizon and I could walk outside- solid snow storms all February. Dealing with a lot of anxiety and depression.Looks like I’ll be protesting the NCAA tournament this year. They’re inviting fans to indoor stadiums in Indianapolis and San Antonio. Granted, it’s 25% capacity at each venue. Thousands of people gathering in one city to watch fucking college basketball makes me sick.
Yeah, it seems irresponsible particularly for an event that gets its revenue primarily from television. It also seems like there would be enough people vaccinated by mid-march that they could invite people who have been vaccinated to the extent that they want crowds.
We support college basketball. I grew up going to the local college games with my dad. The husband buys season tickets to his alma mater, despite historically only going to a couple of games a year. I always enjoy the tournament. The husband usually takes off work to watch. I can’t support this year though if that’s what they’re doing.
Oddly, both growing up and the family I married into, baseball and college basketball are the primary sports watched and games attended. The husband’s family is also into hockey.
Quick update: I got my vaccine yesterday. It’s been nearly 24 hours and I feel fine – no side effects yet. Arm is a tiny bit sore at the injection site but that’s it.
Anyway, for those who haven’t seen it, there is data now that the vaccines are protecting against infection/transmission not just illness. It’s consistent with what people have expected based on the studies of the previously infected but good to see confirmed in the real world. This means we could potentially not just protect people individually but drive down spread enormously by cutting transmission.
I spoke too soon. While we were out taking the kids ice skating and going for a long walk in the botanic garden, the fatigue hit. I got home, went straight to bed and stayed there for about 16 hours. No aches or anything – just crushing fatigue. I slept 11 hours! Feel pretty good this morning.
