I am currently working at a vaccination site for my county (Normally a librarian, but temporarily transferred for the foreseeable future), so was able to get the pfizer since I’m working here. Had no side effects for the first one, but probably 10 days of side effects -headache, extreme fatigue, night sweats, chills- after the second. I seem to be an outlier though. None of my co-workers had now than a few days of side effects, though I will say I slept so well due to mine!

I went to a FEMA walk up site and got my first Pfizer shot. Florida is opening it up to 50 years and above starting today so I don’t feel bad pushing my way to the front of the line.

As much as I hate the idiots who are refusing the vaccine (I’m looking at you white Republican men), it means that those who want it can get it a lot faster.

For those who have questions on efficacy, I’m not sure if you’ll be able to access this link but might as well try:

That’s great! I think a lot of people have gotten them that way who aren’t technically eligible. My friend had heard from someone about another site like the one near me, where you could get in line and wait for extras. She tried 4 different days and finally got it.

I do side-eye people who lie and say they work a certain job or smoke or have underlying conditions (because they know no one checks these things), but at least they’re getting vaccinated. However, it does seem like taking an appointment away from someone else, whereas a line or waiting list is just extra doses that would go unused.

I have my appointment scheduled for next Monday, which is the first day I’m eligible here. I wasn’t even planning to look until maybe Wednesday since most sites seem to only have openings for a handful of days out, but my sister tipped me off that one of the mass vaccination sites here had a few openings into next week and I nabbed one! She got her first dose there yesterday evening and said it was very efficient. I’ll be getting Pfizer. Super excited!

Technically I qualify as medically eligible because of weight and other issues; issues that I know make other people furious that I get to skip the line. Fuck ’em.

As this was a walk up, no appointment needed. The 65 and older got first entry. There were maybe 20 people ahead of me on the 64 and younger line. So not some crazy free for all gimme-fest.

I qualify for one over here in Aus which is exciting as it’s pretty close to the beginning of roll out. The fly in the ointment is we’re continuing with our biblical level events and after bushfires and a pandemic we’re now dealing with epic floods.

Anyone who says climate change isn’t real can bite me, seriously. Since 2007 I’ve personally lived through 4 distinct one in a hundred year flood events and two were in the same city!

So I live in an area of FL where people are rushing to reopen, masks have become passé and Spring Breakers and other assholes abound who don’t believe in the vaccine or COVID or whatever. The end result is that people are being idiots, and I won’t qualify for the vaccine in FL for the foreseeable future because it’s a corrupt shit show. So my husband and I went to a neighboring state where we do qualify and got vaccinated.

And, gotta be honest, I don’t feel bad about it. I made the appointments at a pharmacy a week out and we were the only two scheduled appointments out of 20 that day, there were multiple other days that week with empty appointments and on the day of, I checked and there were only six booked appointments, including ours. It was the J&J shot and apparently, no one wanted it. If people don’t want whatever vaccine they can get, then I’ll happily take it and tell my loved ones to do so as well. (I will also happily donate to any programs out there there that are organizing rideshares to vaccination centers and mobile vaccination sites so that who want the vaccine but can’t get to it can be helped.)

Flash forward to today and I just found out one of our condo neighbors just got diagnosed, likely due to the absolute lack of care people in this area are taking. My husband and I were almost certainly exposed to him through a series of unfortunate events last weekend. But you know what? Even if we get sick, odds are we won’t die. And if I’d waited until FL got its shit together, we might have. So, yeah. Take whatever vaccination you can get, y’all.

I’m glad you were able to get your vaccine MissMJ!!! Congrats!!!

I don’t know many who received the J&J. How’d you’d do with it?

I mentioned that the husband and I didn’t fair well. My mom and sister both mostly just had a headache.

Thanks! I’m glad, too. Especially with the ongoing outbreak at the condo. I didn’t have any problems with the J&J, but my husband’s arm was sore for a couple of days. That was it, though.

@MissMJ – Glad you got your shot. I agree – I’ll take any shot. At the FEMA site, they posted the addresses of two sites that had J&J that day. Some people stepped out of line to go to the other sites.

I’m down in Palm Beach which has received limited doses because of the aforementioned corruption, the more blue the county, the fewer doses available. So a lot of people, myself included, went to Miami.

My friend found a site near our house with a lot of no shows. My husbands on the list for today, and I hope I can make time to get there soon. Neither of us qualify yet, and our county is really, really behind in vaccinations.
