I have also ditched the mask for outdoor activities where it makes sense to do so. I still keep one on hand in case I turn onto a more crowded street or something. I actually really liked that my mask kept my face warm in the winter, but happy to go mask-free in more outdoor situations as it warms up.

Honestly I’d be comfortable not wearing a mask indoors.

I trust that the science indicates the vaccines are incredibly effective at keeping you from getting infected, in the few instances were breakthroughs happen they are incredibly effective at keeping you from getting sick, and they are incredibly effective at keeping viral loads so low you can’t really transmit to anyone else even if you are infected.

I feel confident that the risk of both me getting sick and the risk of me making someone else get sick are super super low, and personally I’m comfortable without a mask.

Personally I don’t buy that signaling works to keep unvaccinated people wearing masks will work that well (which I think is really the only reason the CDC wanted vaccinated people to keep masking) – people who are still unvaccinated at this point are already out there going around without masks and ignoring health guidance and have been this whole time.

All that said…I’ll probably keep wearing them in public places indoors for the the short term because of social pressure. I don’t want to be the first one to march into a store without one and have people feel scared around me. I can keep doing this for a little while longer until more people catch up to where I’m at.

Where’s the cottage industry on Etsy or whatever though that’s making cute little buttons or whatever that say “I’m vaccinated!”

Seems like there’s a business opportunity if someone more creative than me wanted to jump on it.

Those buttons are sorely needed. It’s amazing they aren’t everywhere. I wish I was more crafty.

Oooh! What if someone could just take an image of my vaccination card (blocking out the key info) and make that into a button for me?

I’m going to continue wearing a protective mask whenever I’m indoors with strangers though I’ve stopped wearing one most of the time outside. PA is going to stop requiring vaccinated people to wear masks inside though Philly usually has its own separate health restrictions and is not changing for now.* I think that NJ is keeping its for now. We probably won’t do any shopping in suburban PA until we see better how this plays out.

*Philly’s health policies are also in flux because the chief health official who has been doing the biweekly briefings this whole time just resigned in scandal.

I’d be a lot less upset about this if they linked it to a certain % of people getting vaccinated first. Like, 70% of the eligible population, THEN ditch masks. That’s what Maryland, our neighbor to the north, has said they’re doing. No word yet from Virginia on mask mandate updates. But there’s been such a patchwork of state/local/business-level mandates this whole time.

I do think it’s sad that the immediate reaction from my entire social media feed, comments in the Washington Post, my various group texts, and here, was that we all know that the result won’t be an incentive for people to get vaccinated, but rather permission to be a dick and freely exhale your virus. Not, hooray, I’m vaxxed and free! but instead TRUST NO ONE, PEOPLE ARE A-HOLES. I’m pretty pissed that the antivaxxers will now have carte blanche to keep the virus circulating while I anxiously wait for vaccines to be approved for my 8-year-old.

I REALLY want there to be some actual proof that you’re vaccinated like you have to show / swipe your phone or something in order to get in anywhere without a mask, because I know that these whackadoos (I’m not talking about the hesitant, I’m talking about the anti-vaxxer and medical freedom people) are never going to get the vaccine and I want them to have to wear masks to shop and go to movies and restaurants and stuff. And their kids too.

Btw, do you know they are equating vaccines with *the Holocaust*??? So fucked up and incorrect on so many levels it makes your head explode.

I have a 3 & 6 year old who can’t get vaccinated yet. So I can go maskless but they can’t? Doubt they’d let me get away with that. I’ll have to stay masked till they can get the shot

Well, we just had a town hall-style meeting at work. Still no updates on going back to the office. I thought they might announce our HQ going back (restrictions/reopening plans have been different in the city our HQ is in vs. where I live, so I assumed they’d go back first), but they didn’t. My company typically holds events fairly regularly and sounds like they’re currently tentatively planning an in-person outdoor event in September. We’ll see how that goes. I noticed on the call that one of my coworkers, our office manager who I think goes into our regional office a couple times/week, was using my office, which I was surprised to find kinda bugged me. She has the entire place to herself and there were/are a couple vacant offices.

My sense is that a lot of workplaces are still taking a wait and see approach. If cases keep going down and vaccination rates get high enough there are things you might do that you wouldn’t do if vaccination tops off and cases flatten or rebound.

There are also a lot of employers just trying to figure more generally how they want to operate even absent pandemic concerns.
