I always wear pretty decent pants as I don’t need to be standing up to reveal me in boxers. As I can SO see myself doing…

Yeah, I’m told my office had Mad Men vibes until like 10 years ago. The ED I actually generally like but he makes weird jokes(???) and comments about clothes/appearance. I’ve heard it directed toward other women in the office as well. At first I kinda laughed it off when it was about me but eventually just started giving him a bored stare as a response. Haven’t had to deal with it in awhile but I know he’s paying attention to attire. But anyway. I’m sure I’m the only one who thought about my leggings past the moment it happened.

So I went to a webinar on the “connect week” pilot program they’re doing at work in July / August. Right now it’s voluntary, but I think it will become the new normal, going in one week a month to connect with cross-functional people you work with.

So everyone had a chance to voluntarily report vaccine status through a link. If you’re fully vaccinated you’ll have an ID badge that marks you as such. If not, you will have to enter the building through the thermo scanner lane – walk through a body scanner. You’ll also wear a mask. If you’re vaccinated, you don’t have to mask or social distance when you’re on the floor you’re working on, but you do when you come off that floor, like to go to the cafe or leave the building.

I was hoping not to have to go back until fall, and this is voluntary, but I’ll probably sign up to be a team player. If my boss does, I will. It’s only one week.

A second cousin, this one in her 60’s refuses to get a vaccination. She’s always been a bit of an oddball and not in the best mental health. She doesn’t have great coping skills. She gave most of her money to a cult and when she ran out of money they were like “see ya” and she was devastated. She’s now living with her younger sister but refuses anything that isn’t homeopathic. Which is just another cult as far as I’m concerned.

Meanwhile here in retirement land, I ate indoors at the club, without a mask. The servers continue to wear masks, but that’s totally understandable. Anyone who isn’t vaccinated is socially shunned, politely of course.

My company just announced our first indoor event (an annual December conference). Subject to change if need be, but the way they’re phrasing it feels more certain/confident and therefore like a concrete step toward normalcy. We’re hoping to have an outdoor event in September to bring people together face-to-face. I’m starting to think fall will really be our return to the office, but every time I’ve speculated about returning, I’m wrong.

It’s 70% of 18+ with at least one dose (which, of course, is different than 70% of the entire population fully vaccinated, but it’s still a great milestone). New York hit this marker this week and we had fireworks (all over the state, I guess, but I only saw NYC’s) last night to celebrate. Everything crossed that the Delta variant doesn’t take hold and that our kids stay safe until they can get vaccinated.

My second dose is Monday!!!! It was originally the first week of September but Canada has been stellar now that we have vaccines. I woke up at 5 am to book. I was so exited that I called my fiancé which maybe wasn’t the best but he also could rebook Monday too. He was originally able to rebook from first week of August to first week of July since he got his shot earlier but they must have released a bunch of shots.

Anyway I can’t believe we will have a two dose summer!

I’m mixing Modena and Pfizer but they say it’s ok!

My friend in London postponed her wedding from July 3 to September, sadly. I think the UK was set to fully open before but has postponed it by a month. When I heard she postponed, not going to lie, I thought of YOLOing and going. Def all depends on quarantining and how the situation is. So very tempted once I get fully vaccinated.

We went to my boyfriend’s friend’s surprise 40th bday party over the weekend and saw friends we hadn’t seen in person since November 2019 and it was SO GOOD TO SEE THEM. Two weekends ago, we went out on a double date with my friend and her boyfriend and was so excited to be out that I didn’t want the party to end, drank too much, and felt crappy the next day at a baby shower. Anyway, now I’m thinking I might just be getting old because I drank mindfully at the birthday party but still didn’t feel right yesterday.

Well the cousin has moved from “oddball” to likely certifiable. We had a family zoom last night and my mom and aunt did a perfect set and spike about vaccinations that set the cousin off on a horrifying meltdown. Seriously, the rest of us were sitting there stunned as this woman was literally shrieking, flapping her arms and stamping her feet for roughly 20 minutes. I’m pretty sure she’s gone down the QAnon rabbit hole based on the things she said and her claim that she’s got access to sources of information that mainstream media is covering up.

My aunt did reach out to apologize and the sister explained that the last few weeks have been particularly tough but cousin is unhappy but competent and there’s not much the younger sister can do and she has no intention of kicking cousin out. I scolded my mom after the call because she knew this was an off-limits topic but “she forgot”. Today, she admitted she felt guilty about her role in the meltdown.

I do not think we’ll be doing this again soon.

I don’t know if all anti-vaxxers are into Q, because they won’t admit it if you ask, but they are definitely Q-adjacent in that they believe they absolutely know things the mainstream media doesn’t. And they’ll make allusions to sex trafficking. I’ve been keeping tabs on an Instagram page for my own awareness of what these people are thinking. A lot of Tucker Carlson talking points on there, for people who supposedly distrust mainstream media.

my poor friend who was led right down the rabbit-hole and went full Q ended up being sectioned and spending time in a mental hospital. She’s out now and in the care of her poor mother but as her partner is still raving online about how it is all a “plandemic” It’s not looking great for a full recovery. People who peddle this terrifying unreasonable nonsense and harm vulnerable folk should be held to account for the damage they have done.

You should all just cut these genuinely stupid people out of your lives. They are not only stupid. They are racist. They are all —- frankly —- trash. Garbage. Just throw them the fuck away already.
