An unvaccinated teacher in Marin county (where if I recall correctly, the rate of measles vaccination is woefully low) infected half her class. Masks were required but she would remove her mask for reading hour. Of those infected 80% were in the front rows. Science folks, it’s real.

The most infuriating part. She reported symptoms and stayed in the classroom for three days until she tested positive. What. The. Fuck?

Right, someone else I worked with a few years ago got HFM from her kids who got it at daycare or school. Like, that’s just how it is.

Oh my lord, this vaccine-hesitant couple:

Like….? How much longer were you going to wait? Hundreds of millions of people in the US have taken it. And if you did just a tiny bit of looking into it, you would know that the technology had already existed for decades.

Just last weekend, some former co-worker of my husband’s posted on FB, “should I get the vaccine? I’m worried about blood clots.” Like, look it up, ask a doctor, why are you soliciting opinions on Facebook? And if you’re concerned about blood clots, wouldn’t you look into it and discover that 6 people in the US had this issue, with only the J&J, these events were reported to VAERS, it was investigated, and also, COVID causes blood clots.

I’m out of patience at this point for the hesitant too, not just the anti.

I am glad you are still testing negative, @copa. Sending positive thoughts for your boyfriend’s continued recovery.

That’s the thing, what’s the turning point when people will think it’s ok to get the vaccine. It’s a freaking miracle that the vaccine which took years to develop became ready at the right time.

I’m just so annoyed at the unvaccinated who are against vaccine passports saying if everyone in the venue is vaccinated why can’t I go in since they won’t get sick. So selfish and missing the point.

I mean, it’s a lot of turning points. We are vaccinating about 500K new people a day during the last few weeks so there are a lot of people on any given day who decided to get vaccinated who didn’t get vaccinated the day before. Hopefully the mandates will speed things along. The boroughs of NYC with lower vaccination rates have seen sharp upticks since they announced vaccination would be required for indoor activities.

It’s definitely going to take mandates in the US to get us to the point that the fucking thing stops mutating and getting people sick. It does seem like the seriousness of the situation with Delta now is making some of the hesitant change their minds. But there will still be too many who are living in the upside-down and will never do it as long as they have a choice.

And then there’s the problem of getting the rest of the world vaxxed.

The current path seems to be (credit to other funnier people than me):

    1. This is a hoax
    2. Don’t be a sheep
    3. Please pray for me and my family
    4. Please contribute to a go-fund me

A wedding vendor I follow (but thankfully am not using) just shared a story comparing vaccine to the Holocaust and forcing Jews to identify themselves. Not the same thing. Unfollowing her now but oh man. Anti vaxxers are here in Canada too.

I think a good analogy of vaccines is comparing it to indoor smoking. Not getting vaccinated is not just affecting you. I know I’m preaching to the choir here. I’m just getting so tired.

I was reading about how in Germany they have good quality antigen tests for under a Euro each. I have to figure out if there are any legal issues but I’m contemplating buying a few hundred on the Internet and using them for screening purposes to have social gatherings, on the assumption that this is going to go on for a long time.

It was pretty scary watching my kids get on a bus today. It was filled to the brim, all kids from our neighborhood- which is cold comfort. I am not sure if I cried because my last kid is in school and I’m finally free! or if it’s because this is all terrifying and mostly out of my control.

Oh fuck, the saddest thing. My neighbor upstairs who’s 86 was just going to get a haircut and he told me he’s not doing great, he’s so isolated, he really only talks to his cousins on zoom. He said for 3 years he felt like his friend who he lived with (he says “dear friend” but I’m sure they were partners) who died of Alzheimer’s, was with him, and he always talked to him.

But THEN recently he mentioned that to our other neighbor whose husband just passed, like to see if she experienced the same thing. And she was like, “well, does he say what you think you want to hear, or what he really would say?” Kind of implying that he was just imagining it. And then right after that, poof, he stopped hearing him and he’s gone. So before, he felt like he had his partner around still for company, but now he’s ALL alone. This is awful. My aunt’s not so great either, she’s also super isolated, but at least she has all the nurses around to talk to her. This guy lives alone.
