I went to Mexico in December, and for me a big consideration was that 1) we didn’t think Omicron had spread much yet in North America, and 2) we could deal with getting stuck in Mexico. Also had just gotten boosted the month before. Honestly I would still go now, knowing Omicron is mild for most vaxxed people. I’d def feel better about it if I knew I’d just had it and recovered, but I’d still go. You have to go with your gut though.

Thanks @Copa. My dr. ordered a Covid and a strep test, so going to get tested this afternoon. She said I should have the strep test results today and Covid results tomorrow. It’s all through NW Medical Center.

As for foreign travel, I went to both Belize and Ireland last year. I honestly felt safer in both places than here, in Chicago. People took mask wearing seriously. As @Fyodor mentioned, I was mostly concerned w/ getting home. I’d bring your laptop w/ you in case you did get stuck.

Both places it was easy to find and get an appropriate PCP test to return home.

With that being said, I don’t know how I’d feel right now with Omicron raging, but if in a month it’s looking better and cases have already peaked, I’d probably still consider going.

EDT: I legit was more concerned going home for Xmas, to an area where I know people don’t take Covid seriously, don’t where masks, aren’t getting vaxed, than I was going to a foreign country.

Yeah, in mexico you’re mostly outdoors, and indoors people wear masks.

I think the chances of getting stuck there are low. The resort administers the tests, and they do not want to have to find a discounted room to put you up in and deal with you hanging around with Covid. I honestly don’t think they were even doing the tests right, because they weren’t going to have anyone test positive. But you need to be responsible when you come back.

Yeah. What @Kate said. In Belize, we did the test at the resort. In Ireland, it was at the airport. And in Belize, people were even wearing masks outdoors. Tourists weren’t, but people who obviously lived there were.

Hope you recover quickly @ ktfran. That’s great you can get both tests. Drink liquids!

In Ontario only front line workers or something are only allowed tests. If you have symptoms you can’t get tested and you are required to isolate for 5 days. So the only relevant numbers are hospitalization and ICU. I understand there’s a shortage but it’d be great to know.

I had the strangest one day sore throat. I feel fine now but though.

Hope everyone feeling under the weather feels better soon!
I saw your story about your mom on Insta @DW and I hope she also recovers soon and is able to go home. My MIL is still in the hospital but finally getting some good help today. I think she will be ok and recover soon!

My husband didn’t feel well today and work told him to take a rapid test before coming in. He found some at WM and bought two boxes and it was over $50! We can afford that but not everyone can – I think that is stupidly expensive. His is neg so I think it’s a cold.

@ktfran All of my doctors are part of NWM and I LOVE them. I find them incredibly efficient.

We have yet to travel internationally in the past two years and I felt good about things when we booked, though we did make sure everything was refundable just in case. We really just wanted a destination that would be warm and sunny in February where we would hopefully not have to deal with too many other Americans (or, worse, spring breakers). The area we are going to, there is no option of flying direct. So we are currently planning to do one day at a beach on the way back home, which is where we’ll test. I have family in that area, one of whom is a doctor, which I find reassuring. But yeah, I was planning to bring my work laptop if we do go and bring our own test kits. I’m going to keep sitting on it.

    @hfantods
I did have a known exposure over a week ago, but have found that I wake up with sore throats in the winter that I think are just from cold, dry air. I did have a little of that going on last week. Tested negative but decided to just treat it like COVID anyway. We now run the humidifier a lot and it’s been helping.

I would still go probably. But one thing to be aware of I heard the opposite of the quarantine rooms – they want to find a positive because they are not full so you are forced to stay for longer and have to pay for it. Had this happen to two separate people I know and both instances their test came back “inconclusive” which they treat the same as a positive instead of just testing you again and you’re not entitled to another test – even if you kay for it – you are forced to quarantine with an inconclusive. both people were travelling with a second person and in both instances the second person was negative – which makes me think that they are randomly selecting tests to call inconclusive and forcing a quarantine for extra cash since they’re down. Maybe it’s all a conspiracy theory but it seems odd that no one I know who went to the US got Covid but two people who went to countries more prone to scams got stuck with a ten day quarantine. One was Jamaica and the other Mexico.

Yeah, Muffy, I would assume it’s random… the test they gave us at the resort was so suspicious. They literally just touched the swab briefly right inside ONE nostril. Now, we were there the week of Dec 13th, and the rooms were clearly gonna fill up the next week for Christmas so I think they wanted us all out of there.

Eh, that sounds like a conspiracy theory to me. I’d wager they want people out if I’m picking between the two. A lot of resorts (the ones we looked at, anyway) seem to be offering free or discounted accommodations to guests who test positive to incentivize them to come in the first place.

Covid test came back positive. But My throat is no longer on fire. Mostly some congestion now. I’m resting and will take the 10 day quarantine, despite the CDC saying it can be 5 days if vaxed and boosted.
