Even if I walk an hour, my phone isn’t clocking me over 7,500. Maybe a watch would be more accurate? Idk how an iPhone works compared to a watch that tracks? 45 minutes gets me about 6,000 or so.

EDT; Wait. I walk super fast. So being out an hour is prob like most others walking an extra 15 to 20 minutes. My walk is faster than a lot of people jog. So that’s prob why it’s hard for me to get 10k unless I’m out for an hour and a half.

Maybe, you might have longer legs than me too. I used a Fitbit for years and now an Apple Watch. Unfortunately I think the Fitbit was more accurate.

@ktfran That’s probably fairly accurate. I use a Garmin and it’s quite accurate for running… 7,000 steps is over 3 miles, so if you’re walking for 45 minutes and getting 6,000 steps, that actually sounds about right. It’d be a just under 3 miles, right? The boyfriend and sister both use Fitbit and with both of them, if we go on the same walk, their step count is always higher. So I dunno. And in any case, I don’t think it really matters. It’s all fairly arbitrary and I think some form of intentional movement at least a few times/week if not daily — whatever makes ya feel good! — is what people should aim for. I’m happy to live in a walking city. I didn’t own a Fitbit back when I lived the suburban car commuter life 7+ years ago, but I would’ve had to make a big effort to get the same amount of movement in then that I do now.

Yeah. I try to get in around three miles most days, at a minimum. When I walk the slightly over three miles home from work, it’s about 40 minutes, give or take depending on stop lights or dodging people.

Ooh. You know what’s really funny.. I was wracking up some major steps on safari despite barely walking. I guess off roaring in the jeep was bouncy enough to count as steps.

I don’t take my phone with me everywhere. Now that I have an Apple watch, I clock way more steps per day than I did before, so maybe that could be part of it Ktfran? I don’t believe iPhones are as accurate with step length, etc like a Fitbit or Apple watch would be, but I don’t have the latest one and could totally be wrong about that.

Wow, you are a fast walker. Haha. So for reference my morning walk with the dog, per my Garmin, was 2900 steps and 1.3 miles. I care more about miles than steps and aim for about 4-5 miles total throughout the day, which is pretty doable as a dog owner. I know not super easy for people who don’t have dogs that need walks, partners that do that chore, or people who live in an area where they are car dependent.

I was gifted the first generation Apple Watch back in 2015 or so and absolutely hated it as a fitness tracker. I ended up giving it back to my dad so that he wouldn’t waste money on something I knew I’d not use. I’ve read that they’ve gotten better for that purpose. They’re nicer looking than the Garmin I have, though.

My dad and I both have long legs. The husband is about 4 inches taller than me and our hips hit about the same. Growing up, I’d walk to church with my dad. I distinctly remember having to practically run to keep up. I learned to walk fast like him and now can’t stop, to the annoyance of friends.

I waited a few days to take a rapid test. Tested this morning and so far so good from the husband passing it to me.

Ok. Back to Covid. We started with JJ, so we’ve only had two shots. JJ and then the Moderna booster. I’m guessing we’re eligible for another booster since we started with JJ. We should get it, right? I haven’t been following the booster info. that closely.

We’d have to wait til the husband clears His Covid. I tested negative this morning, but will test again the next couple of days. No symptoms for me yet.

It’s possible that your husband should wait a few months before his booster since he should have antibodies from getting COVID.

Hey friends! Thanks for asking, KTFran. I am ok.

I did sleep literally all day yesterday (Saturday). I did not leave my bed until 10pm. I just didn’t see the point. And I was just…tired. Honestly, my dad and I have never had a great relationship and I moved out of their house and 300 miles away at 24 and have lived on my own ever since. Now that one of my parents – right now it’s my dad – have been here pretty much the whole year, it is really getting to me. Imagine living with your parents, like they NEVER GO AWAY, after being on your own for this long. I mean, he takes my dogs out and walks them and that’s helpful to me, but I just feel like I’m under so much scrutiny. Like if I say I want to go to the grocery store, he wants to ask why and what I want to get, and tells me not to get much. But then he eats my leftovers. It sounds ridiculous but I went almost 15 years with no one telling me what to do about the damn grocery store, or being accountable to anyone (save my employers, obviously) on how I spend my time.

Anyway, I managed to drag myself out of bed and went to see John Mulaney with my best friend tonight. I had to take my portable oxygen with me but I almost, ALMOST felt normal. I am still coughing a bit, like that deep in your chest cough where your very ribs hurt, but I don’t have Covid anymore. My best friend was so very nice and drove us to the venue, and we got to park in a handicapped space even though I don’t have my sticker (sigh, yet) because the sight of a relatively young woman hooked up to supplemental oxygen freaks people right TF out. Apparently.

John Mulaney was really good and it was great to get out. It was great to even just put on real clothes and makeup. 🙂

How is everyone else feeling? Wendy, how is Joanie doing? I saw your Instagram stories…I feel so bad for her! 🙁
