Yeah, COVID is just everywhere here right now. It recently ran through my condo building, but it started with multiple people getting it from different places, not one big superspreader. As for masks and restrictions, with vaccines and more effective treatments, I think that ship has sailed, even though Long COVID is still a thing and the elderly and medically vulnerable are still susceptible to bad outcomes. It’s a struggle to get people to even quarantine the requisite number of days, at least around here. I know there were positive people with active symptoms in the elevator and by the pool – no masks.

My whole family is recovering from covid right now – we likely got it at a symphony performance where masks AND proof of vaccination/negative test were required for all audience members, and where we wore our KF94 masks the entire time. Of course, there were some folks who didn’t properly wear their masks, so there you go. It’s so contagious that avoiding it at this point is purely a matter of luck, or continuing to never go out in public. We’re still going to be careful (masks everywhere indoors, regular antigen testing, staying outside as much as possible) but I’m not willing to entirely give up life’s pleasures – we’ve given up so much in the past 2.5 years already! I had been hoping to delay infection until the omicron-specific booster, though. Sigh. They better make EVERYONE eligible for that one. We are fortunate that with so many vaccine doses on board, our cases were all mild, though long covid effects remain to be seen. My sense of smell is pretty faint still; hopefully that recover soon!

I have a friend in Portland, Or who has Covid and he’s on day seven and still testing positive. He’s boosted and everything. Stay safe out there.

Sorry your whole family has Covid @Vathena! I don’t know how I have not gotten it yet, but I haven’t. And I am IC. I sometimes where a mask in the grocery store and sometimes I forget. I think it really is luck at this point. With the new variant being more contagious, I’m going to try and be more diligent about wearing it at grocery stores, etc. for a while. And I will wear one at work when school starts up again. Kids come from all over for college so I’m sure many will be bringing it with them.

How can anyone know for sure they haven’t, though? You can be asymptomatic. I’ve had it twice, verified and probably a third time before testing was widespread for breathing patients.

I’ve mentioned it on this thread before. When I had Covid in January, my at home test was coming back negative and I was obviously really sick. The PCR at the hospital was positive. I don’t fully trust at home tests results.

I’m guessing most people have had it at this point, it’s just a matter of how your body reacted.

We leave for the Galapagos tomorrow. We don’t have to test to get into Ecuador, but we do have to test to get on our small ship. We’ve been pretty safe the last week+ as a precaution. Fingers crossed we’re good.

    Have fun @ktfran!!

Sorry to hear, Vathena. Hope you all recover soon. I agree, at this point we can’t avoid doing anything.

It really is luck at this point. I am so grateful nobody got it at our wedding but we didn’t have extra precautions.
I’m not wearing a mask around the office but I’ll wear masks with clients. I am wearing masks at grocery stores.

Hope they open up the second booster here but maybe it is better to wait until they have the updated one.

I’m almost 100% certain this is my first infection. I’ve been able to PCR test weekly at work since July of 2020, and never had a positive test. The PCR is much more sensitive than the home antigen tests; my husband was symptomatic for several days before popping the double line on a home test. I’m guessing that’s because after being double boosted, he had a robust immune response that made him feel crappy (low grade fever, fatigue) but kept the actual amount of virus pretty low. My daughter was just one week shy of getting her booster and was quite sick for a couple of days…ugh. But completely fine and testing negative at one week out. I’m on day 9 and still positive on an antigen test, although I feel pretty okay. The occupational health nurse at work told me it’s possible to still test positive at 10 days but very unlikely to be contagious. I’m still planning to avoid other people and mask up zealously until I’m negative again, though!

I figure I haven’t had it because I take immunosuppressants. I did have a sinus infection and a bad cold…all tests for COVID came back negative (even PCR testing). I never lost my sense of taste or smell. At this point all I can do is say I haven’t had it. I also don’t have any lingering symptoms (after my cold and sinus infection). 🤷🏻‍♀️ I don’t really know 100 percent though!

Have so much fun @ktfran! I somehow ended up on their E-mail list (the Galapagos island tourism industry/board?). It looks so beautiful. It is def a place I want to go sometime. I’m ready to start planning our next getaway but IDK what that is yet. My spouse turns 50 in December and I’d like to do something for his birthday.

I don’t think I’ve had it because I sat next to my symptomatic boss for an hour and she tested positive the next day. And then I tested at home for 7 straight days and always negative. Like, if I’m not catching it from that, I’m not catching it.

I’ve been sick twice but both times it was something my husband brought back from a work trip and we both tested negative multiple times.

Omfg I just had a panic attack. I have an interview Tuesday for an internal promotion. It’s a Zoom panel interview but then I thought, what if I end up needing to go in the office, and maybe it would be better to do it in a conf room anyway, more reliable WiFi and profesh setting. So I thought, ok, I can go into Boston today and find a new outfit. Like a suit or a coordinated jacket and pants. As recently as 2019 you could go in stores like Ann Taylor, Banana, J Crew maybe, Loft, department stores, and they’d have a petites work section with all coordinating shit. Not anymore!!! First of all BOTH Ann Taylor and Loft are closed permanently in Prudential. Banana had weird looking suits and hardly any petites. J Crew had no petites in store and no suit type outfits. Same at Anthropologie. I can’t wear standard pants! And Saks and Nieman Marcus and Zara, I couldn’t even tell what was going on in there. So I was really freaking out. But I went home and tried on my blue Ann Taylor suit from 3 years ago and it’s actually okay, I thought the pants were too tight but they work. And I have nice nude-color pumps, and my mom texted me 4 different tops she has that will go with the suit.

Point of this is, if you have an interview, plan ahead and order a bunch of stuff online, particularly if you’re petite or tall or plus. They didn’t have shit for sizes in the stores. I was focusing too much on the interview questions and the strategy decks and not enough on clothes, which isn’t like me. But thank god I do have a blue suit.
