I’ve been on a pretty endless quest for comfortable, decent looking work shoes. I keep a pair of black pumps and black flats under my desk. I haven’t reached for my pumps even once since being back in the office. My flats are very comfortable but I’ve had the same pair for about a decade, they feel dated and they’re looking a bit rough. I stay in my commute sneakers a lot when I’m in the office. I used to keep a blazer or two at the office in case I ever needed to throw it on and I brought one back since in-person stuff has picked up a bit. I’ve been on interview panels recently for some open roles we are (finally, omg) filling. I’m glad we’re doing interviews in person, though. I didn’t love doing them virtually.

The good news is ballet flats are back in fashion 😭

We have hot-desking so we can’t keep anything in the office. I guess there are lockers, but it’s all just too much.

The other day I was at the shoe department at Macy’s and I saw a pair of, like, lug sole platform loafers with a block heel that look like a pair I used to wear in middle school. OMG. That is a trend I did not expect to see come back. I do not wish to participate in again.

Yeah and you’re supposed to wear them with like a little-girl ankle sock and a mini skirt.

Regular penny loafers are back too. I had some in 1994 in college. Not sure they fit in with my look now, but at least they are a flat shoe that’s business-friendly.

Interesting this thread has been rejuvenated. COVID finally got to me. Mostly sore throat now. I can’t tell if my muscles are sore from lying in bed. Just frustrating. I have been doing more maskless activities. I also have to cancel my bivalent vaccine which is in 3 weeks.

I hope your symptoms stay mild and that you recover quickly, @hfantods. I’m still out here dodging this thing somehow. I have my bivalent booster and flu shots scheduled for Thursday.

I’m training for my first marathon right now. It’s in a few weeks. It’s been a lot of work, I had my peak week of training last week. I keep thinking that of course I’ll probably end up with COVID on race day or something and have to miss out. A handful of years ago, before my first half marathon, I got appendicitis a week or two out from race day and had to miss it, it was such a bummer.

    Feel better soon!

Re. Flats: I recently bought a pair of Birdies to wear in lieu of heels for dressier outfits and they’re really cute and comfortable. Maybe check them out if you haven’t yet?

Those look super comfortable without looking orthopedic.

They even look supportive! I’ve had to lean into orthopedic chic shoes the past few years. I’ll check those out more when I get home tonight, thanks for the rec!

Yeah, that was my impression when they were advertised to me on instagram and I took the bait and glad I did.

Ooh, i do like those! I haven’t tried birdies yet… maybe I should. I like the gold.

The husband has a conference in NY next week. I’m meeting him on Thursday and we’re staying in Midtown, where the conference is. Hanging w/ my cousin Friday evening. She lives somewhere in Brooklyn. They’re moving this week so don’t know the exact area. I think I want to go to a museum Friday day. I’d gladly take suggestions!

    Feel better soon hfantods!
