My office has yet to address the current situation formally. I work in construction, and all of our sites are working today. Mine is in Lower Manhattan – I drove in instead of taking public transportation, and am doing my best to keep all interaction to emails and phone calls. I’ve been fishing for information from the main office, but nothing yet.

I have two meetings with clients on the books for tomorrow, and I don’t want to attend either. For one of them, I’m requesting that it turns into a conference call instead.
The second meeting, though, is with a local public agency and not up to me if the meeting gets canceled. They have not closed or switched to WFH yet. I know a few people that work there and, yesterday, they got texts that their offices would be open today. Their building is pretty big, and everyone packed like sardines, not counting the hundreds of visitors they get daily. I don’t understand why they have not shut down or canceled visitors at least.

Despite my precautions it appears my husband & 2 young kids have coronavirus. There’s no tests available, but my husband’s dr told him most likely that’s what it is. We were told to stay home (already doing it for 4 days) and that if he had trouble breathing the ER probably wouldn’t take him. Shit just got fucking real

Wow, Helen. I’m so sorry. The response from your doctor is fucking crazy. Where are you, if you don’t mind sharing?

The E/R wouldn’t take him because he’s “young,” or because they can’t handle people with the virus??

I work in marketing and public relations for a bank, and unless the FED closes banks, we have to stay open.

Also, supposed to be getting married with 40 guests Friday. If the governor shuts down restaurants and bars we lose our location. We’ve already decided to get married in our living room if we have to. Sincerely hope it doesn’t come to that but not willing to risk anyone’s health.

I don’t know why the dr said that! My husband didn’t ask any follow up questions to that alarming statement! I’m in north Georgia. This area has been hit hard, probably because the world’s busiest airport is 30mins away

@Helen, I’m so sorry! That totally sucks. Sending you and your family good thoughts.

EDT. Despite individual states acting a little late with closures, I feel that most are doing a much better job than the national government, which is a joke right now.

Aw @Helen – that sucks. See if you can get medicated cough syrup instead of over the counter – from what I’ve read, this thing makes throats feel like hamburger. Be cautious about chest pains – the mucus is like concrete down there and takes a while to thin enough to cough out. Do your best to observe and keep an ear out for labored breathing. If your children are struggling to breathe – get them to the hospital. Better to be in the hospital near solutions than a 10 minute ride or more away.

    Good luck.

Thanks guys! I’m keeping a close eye on all of them. The lack of response to this is startling. The fact the its politicized is mind blowing. I spoke to a neighbor who was giving me a thermometer, and he’s definitely recieving different information about this virus. I offered to pick it up outside, but he told me he wasn’t afraid and to just ring the doorbell. He asked if my husband was tested & I said there aren’t any. He sternly told me there were tests. GA is doing like 50 tests a day for the entire state! And you have to go to the health department! I told him the dr diagnosed him over the phone based on symptoms & the fact the the virus is so prevalent. He said my dr was a fearmonger. Un fucking believable

Oh, the information that my family is getting downstate vs. what we’re getting in Chicago is vastly different. Or, I guess, the sites my husband and I read and listen to vs. what my family downstate reads/listens to is vastly different. And my husband’s parents, who live in the suburbs, are also getting different information. None of them understand the social distancing viewpoint and think we’re being crazy. NO! Do you not understand that it’s so WE DON’T SPREAD IT?!? Why in the eff would you wait until it it’s running rampant? Do you know what’s going on in other countries?

Truly mind boggling. I think that is the most insane part.

While visiting home for my niece’s birthday, for the first time ever, I didn’t hug my 91 year old grandma, or go near her. It was weird, but I felt necessary.

My dad was like “we’ve never had to do this for a virus, We don’t do this for the flu.” I’m like, that’s because there hasn’t been a virus like this in your lifetime. Ebola didn’t hit because we sent troops to quarantine everyone. The Spanish Flu was before your time, and maybe if they practiced social distancing, not so many people would have died.

I’m somehow (I don’t know why) slightly surprised how casually some are taking this. I don’t understand why people think it’s like a cold and you’ll feel a little sick but get better. It cause severe lung problems, and we don’t even know what that looks like long term in survivors. Young, healthy people are still in critical care for this. I just read a days old article on thehill.com that says preliminary studies show the virus may be able to live for three hours in the air after aspiration.
